Australian actress Nicole Kidman has appeared in films since she was a teenager, and had won acclaim for her work in Australia long before she was noticed by international audiences for her portrayal of a terrorized sailor in Dead Calm. Since then her career has grown with several period pieces as well as suspense thrillers and dark comedies. She is married to actor tom Cruise, with whom she has co-starred in several films.
