Horatio Sanz got me to crack a smile a couple times, but I can't believe I think he should have been in the movie more. I thought Saturday Night Live was bad, I had no idea! SNL is gold compared to this. Every single joke falls flat and the director obviously has no clue how to make a movie. I can't even tell if Jerry O'Connel and Jake Busey are bad actors because the director doesn't even give them a chance. I think one thing that could have really helped this movie out would have been a script. In case the director reads this review I want to tell him you need to have a script BEFORE shooting a film. Just a tip.

One of the worst movies I have ever seen, easily.

0/5B00005LQ0356A3WGC1WC1PLHCA3WGC1WC1PLHCA. Her brilliant mastery of dialogue, pacing and screen technique (even as "six-year-old girl in park") makes one see why when this sordid cesspool we call Earth eventually heaves up its bowels in a churning mass of humanity, Dakota will be the one who rescues us all from mediocrity, imbecility, and guys named "Bob", who attempt to hit on women who are WAY too young for them, and get shot down as a result. UltraLord has spoken!B00005LQ0356A1O4TMKKT0XZTJA1O4TMKKT0XZTJTim EdstromTimThe Rocky Mountains132004-11-17Tomcats: Brilliance Below the Imbecility. While ostensibly the worst movie of the 21st century, this paean to masculinity has pushed the feminist movement up by 30 years. How? By exulting in the lowest common denominator of male attributes. Imbecilic jokes abound to entertaining the male masses who must make up the majority of this film's viewers. However, below the surface is brilliance, undercovered only by a select group of cinematic geniuses.
To the select few, this film is actually a stark examination of depravity: we are asked to observe B-grade actors be pushed increasingly lower into the depths. We explore what is NOT on the screen, such as the awkward human feeling behind the scenes. One can only imagine the director yelling "Tomcats, Scene 5, Act 4! ACTION!," as Horatio Sanz is asked for the fourteenth time to tell a (...) joke.
Thus, if you want to see phallus jokes and dispense high-fives, watch the film. If you want to see a brilliant dissertation of human depravity, check it out. Product DescriptionA group of buddies made a bet years ago as to whom would be the last bachelor of their group. Now this bet could save michaels life. He owes a casino a lot of money and needs the cash fast. There is only one friend in his way kyle a womanizer and his competition to win the bet. Studio: Sony Pictures Home Ent Release Date: 12/21/2004 Starring: Jerry Oconnell Jake Busey Run time: 95 minutes Rating: R Director: Gregpry PoirierAmazon.comOne might reasonably expect Tomcats to be the Porky's of 2001: after all, it concerns a group of young, sexist morons and their fears and fantasies about young women. But Tomcats isn't quite as brain-dead as that, though it is phenomenally more neurotic. Jerry O'Connell plays one of two remaining bachelors within a group of wealthy pals who set aside a cash reward, years before, earmarked for the last among them to get married. O'Connell needs the money to pay off a gambling debt, but his problem is that the other bachelor is a horrendous pig (Jake Busey) unlikely ever to land a gal. A general mean-spiritedness flows through this wearying comedy, manifest in such ugly moments as watching someone's girlfriend run over by a golf cart and an excised, cancerous testicle kicked around hospital hallways. If you're looking for female flesh, however, forget it: Tomcats is far more driven to explore male nudity, while making equally naked today's masculine fears of impotence, mothers, and lesbians. --Tom Keogh B00007149RBuying the CowB00006ADFO40 Days and 40 NightsB000038I0YLove StinksB000TZJBPQKnocked Up (Unrated Widescreen Edition)B000BKVQS4Wedding Crashers - BenderAldo BenderBeverly Hills, CA USA22007-08-01Great Double FeatureI was a bit suspect of two movies on one disc but after viewing both flicks on my Aquos flat-screen, I must admit, they are damn good transfers. This was perhaps Eddy Murphy's best work and they both represent the flavor of 1980s movie making in Hollywood. Anamorphic Widescreen is the best for 16x9 TV viewing, these films won't disappoint any fan of the Nolte/Murphy genre.B000MGBSE442A3187WZPJM61CWA3187WZPJM61CWfrom california22007-05-29anamorphic widescreenthis double feature DVD improves on the original DVD letterboxed video with anamorphic widescreen. video is a little soft but I remember the theatrical picture was a little soft so this is acceptable. these are good action movies but why the disrespect in not releasing these movies with remastered video/audio, features and commentary? these movies were at least as important as Beverly Hills Cops and Trading Places to a young Eddie Murphy's career and Beverly Hills Cop got the box set treatment.Product DescriptionMovie DVDAmazon.com48 HRS.
Before the action-oriented "buddy movie" formula settled into place in the 1980s and 1990s with the Lethal Weapon films, Walter Hill's 48 HRS. presented a much more irreverent and politically incorrect version of the genre. Eddie Murphy made an auspicious film debut alongside veteran Nick Nolte's consummate performance as a worn cop. Murphy plays a convict on a two-day furlough from prison to help capture his former partner (James Remar). The intense animosity between his character and Nolte's impatient detective is rude and violent--albeit in a comic way--and the film's racist and sexist banter is so ubiquitous that some viewers might be turned off. (This early, raw Murphy is not the Murphy of The Nutty Professor.) Then again, sometimes deliberate overkill is funny in itself, which is certainly closer to Hill's intention. There are a couple of scenes for the ages in this film, especially Murphy's single-handed shutdown of the action in a redneck bar. --Tom Keogh
Another 48 HRS.
The boys are back in town, but they're wearing their carbon-paper suits in this frantic but not nearly as funny sequel to the action-comedy hit. The first time around, the combination of Eddie Murphy and Nick Nolte had the element of surprise going for it: Who expected these two to have chemistry? This time, chemistry is virtually all they have in a veritable rehash of the first film. What plot there is has to do with Nolte's needing Murphy (who is just out of jail) to help him clear his own name and save his job on the police force. Director Walter Hill is back in place, but this time the script is the work of action hack Jeb Stuart and the movie barely gives Murphy room to unleash his comic riffs; when he does, we're expecting them (though he's still entertaining). --Marshall FineB000MGBLSCBeverly Hills Cop Collection (Beverly Hills Cop / Beverly Hills Cop II / Beverly Hills Cop III)B000U1ZV8KLethal Weapon: 4 Film FavoritesB000O59A16Trading Places (Special Collector's Edition)B00005U7QXBeverly Hills Cop - Bertha (Barbara Hershey) hooks up with labor agitator Big Bill Shelley (David Carradine); with their gang (Bernie Casey and Barry Primus) they pull off a number of robberies and find themselves on the run right up until the suitably bloody climax. This will be of interest to Scorsese completists and lovers of exploitative B-movies; others need not bother.B00005UM2Y47A2UAQ84X27EUROA2UAQ84X27EUROdifferent drummer 63Lawrence, KS, USA72005-03-07Pulp NonfictionLike many talented young U.S. directors of the 1950s, 60s, and 70s, Martin Scorsese got a big break from American International Pictures studios. This was in the days of drive-in movies and so-called "B" pictures, meaning that something like Boxcar Bertha would be secondary to whatever feature attraction was playing. AIP directors worked on a strict schedule, small budget, and were required to goose things along with softcore sex and bright red violence. No surprise, Scorsese delivered, and found ways to punch it up with his trademark kinetic editing style. He also knew how to get solid performances, even back then. Barry Primus, Bernie Casey, and John Carradine shine here; Barbara Hershey and David Carradine aren't so great or convincing. The movie, like Bonnie And Clyde six years earlier, is about contemporary rather than past times, even though it's set in the 30s. Hershey and Carradine are early 70s free lovers and free spirits, not really nice folks but much more moral than their foes in banking and legal institutions. The film is uneven, but just when you find your attention drifting, Scorsese makes his presence felt with imaginative, original, playful images and sequences. For example, pay close attention to the scene in which Carradine goes to his union office with stolen money, and see how much effort Scorsese puts into images that other directors would blow off. The DVD looks great, a huge improvement over cruddy, pan and scan VHS. No extras except for the original trailer, which is a treat: lots of it is shot through bright colored tinted lenses, taking you back to 70s schlock at its finest. Based on a true story, this is pulp NON fiction; takes its place alongside After Hours, King of Comedy, Kundun, Age of Innocence, and Bringing out the Dead as an uneven, underappreciated Scorsese gem--not as consistently great as his big movies, but plenty of interesting moments and a chance to see the master in training before he moved up to self-consciously artful films.B00005UM2Y414AIMR915K4YCNAIMR915K4YCNBindy Sue Frønkünschteinbigfootsalienbabyunder the rubble192004-05-25Barbara Hershey!!!!Produced by Roger Corman and directed by Martin Scorsese, BOXCAR BERTHA is a romp through the deep south of the great depression. Bertha (Barbara Hershey) is young, beautiful, and not at all afraid of taking her clothes off! This is good, since she's naked a lot in this movie! Plot?? Well, Bertha's dad is killed in an airplane accident, sending Bertha on an adventure of boxcar jumping, bankrobbing, murder, prison escapes, trainrobbing, prostitution, and lots of laughs. Bertha is accompanied by Big Bill Shelly (David Carradine) and two other cohorts played by Barry Primus and Bernie Casey. Did I mention Bertha's lack of clothing? It just keeps flying off for some reason! Anyway, Bertha and her gang decide to take down an evil railroad baron (played nastily by John Carradine), not realizing just how evil he really is. This leads to the gang's downfall. The finale is pure savage mayhem and revenge! Worth a peek. Oh, and Bertha spends a great deal of time in her birthday suit too...B00005UM2Y24A3K5IMGDCDBCNFA3K5IMGDCDBCNFlecorel@hotmail.comAtlanta, GA82003-01-26Cormin, Scorsese StyleBoxcar Bertha is a Roger Cormin picture. Boxcar Bertha is a Martin Scorsese picture. What this means is that while it gave Scorsese the opportunity to show flashes of the genius we now know he possessed, he had to do it at the expense (or lack there of) of delivering a Roger Cormin movie. Now I am not knocking Cormin. Cormin was great because he gave young talent a low budget, some film, and a chance. His low risk approach gave stars such as Jack Nicholson, Dennis Hopper, Scorsese, and Francis Ford Coppola, their big breaks. Cormin films usually aren't that good, but their is no substitute for experience, especially to young filmmakers, so we should thank him.
On that note, Boxcar Bertha is sort of a take off on Bonnie and Clyde. A young Barbara Hershey plays the title character who essentially falls in with a group of disgruntled railroad union guys (David Carradine included) and starts knocking off banks and such in an effort to hurt the railroad's evil owner. The film suffers from terrible cliches and silly special effects (the blood looks like red paint). However, Scorsese makes the best out of it with his constantly moving camera, hard violence, and unorthodox editing techniques. Ultimately though, this is a film for die hard Scorsese fans interested in how he got started.B00005UM2Y147542002-06-22Beware this DVDThis is the cut and censoured version of that movie. Wait for the unrated version.Amazon.comMartin Scorsese was just another college film school grad with a student feature under his belt when producer Roger Corman tapped him to direct AIP's entry in the Bonnie and Clyde craze. Barbara Hershey stars as the real-life depression era orphan of the title, a charming, cheeky young woman who tramped the Deep South with a union organizer (David Carradine), a dandified New York con man (Barry Primus), and a blues-playing mechanic (Bernie Casey), turning her motley band into train-robbing outlaws. Scorsese was anxious to show his chops on a real Hollywood feature and does so admirably (if impersonally) with rough-and-ready style. If the rebellious spirit and social message behind the sex and violence is more Corman than Scorsese, the film references ("Pay no attention to that man behind the curtain," Bertha tells a customer while working at a cathouse) and often inventive direction are pure Scorsese. --Sean Axmaker B0010T3ULQDrive-In Cult Classics - While it does away with much of the back story of the two bad guys--especially Victor--the stars and screenplay reflect well the gritty, sexy police drama of the novel. Rachel Ward is stunning as Domino, the $1000 a night hooker who becomes the subject both of Sharky's investigation (hence the term "machine" for his operation)and his sexual obsession. Burt Reynolds is excellent as the "cop on the edge," the supporting cast is great, especially Charles Durning and Bernie Casey, and the setting in Atlanta is fresh after all of the cop movies done in LA or NYC.630513343310A51JSDQX5NCL6A51JSDQX5NCL6P. I. Marder02008-08-08big disappointmentI bought this movie based on a couple of the reviews I read on Amazon. Well, there's no accounting for taste, but in my opinion this movie stinks. I found almost nothing redeeming about this, it's a lobotomized version of the original 'Dirty Harry'. The plot is a remake of the classic 'Laura'. There's no need or point in even expending the effort to enumerate the weaknesses of the film...it's bad (unless you like gratuitous scenes of girls jumping around in spandex body suits).630513343330A15W2D3WJW7NP7A15W2D3WJW7NP7Pork ChopLisbon, Portugal02008-07-18Visit back to the 70'sSHARKY'S MACHINE (1981) definitely has that 70's feel to it, for various reasons,
such as the technology used at the office by detectives, the large automobiles,
the immense run down sections of the inner city, with abandoned buildings from the
recession, etc. There is still the typical make up of America at that time, such as the
Caucasian, the Black and Asian, that's all, and simple. The Asian are still portrayed as
masters in the martial arts.

Another typical 70's element of the picture, is simply the mature relationships
seen between women and men, light years from the juvenile deliquency seen all too
often over the past 20 years in the movies. Another 70's element brought up that
the story touches upon, is the cocaine dependency of the bad guy, (in addition to
other pills), as well as hostage taking, car jackings, the bringing up of
unfortunate perv fascinations by bit shot politicians, who the population
is jaded and cynical about, obviously, and how they need to cover their tracks once
they're in the public eye.

A remarkable aspect is the number of regular, close quarters, pistol shooting
confrontations, between the detectives and the gangsters.

A lot of the work is TV-style, as it's not widescreen, and lacks subtitles.

The positive aspects, in addition to the mature and soft spoken acting, are the musical
numbers chose, such as female crooner numbers, or jazz performances.

Perhaps much of the film is inspired from reality, as it tells how top performing
homicide detectives and others get demotes to the vice squad, from bad publicity of
one or more arrests that got out of hand, such that Reynolds finds himself chasing
sex workers, illicit drug users and so called perv's.

A number of then high-tech surveillance techniques are introduced to viewers,
such as ultra-powerful lens cameras, audio bugs capturing the dialog of suspects,
tapping phones by court order, and how a stakeout goes down. The pretext of
surveillance leaves the door wide open for voyeurism, which in this case, means
observing class aerobics and tennis played by the lovely Rachel Ward, who, we are warned,
having honed that skill or illusion professionally from a young age, by her handler.

As stated earlier, the underlying frustration of citizens in face of the cities at
that time, facing financial crisis from inflation, and paralysis from corruption
of interests, with the juxaposition of a politician being chosen, financed and elected
by the underworld, and Reynolds, who has a totally opposite view, sticking to his
no-compromise beliefs with gangsters, in between officers caught in the cross fire
of special interests.

The filming's ending seems stretched too thin, however, the finale with the stunt diver form
the building is unexpected.

630513343330A220FJEQNGMSRNA220FJEQNGMSRNTrevor WillsmerLondon, England02008-02-15Good saturday nighter, poor DVDBurt Reynolds' riposte to Clint Eastwood encroaching on his redneck comedy turf with his orangutan comedies was to make his own Dirty Harry in Atlanta-style thriller, Sharky's Machine. Originally intended for John Boorman but in the end directed by the star himself, it's an out-and-out commercial package with Reynolds a narc who gets busted down to the Vice Squad (literally - they're in the basement) who sets out to nail a mysterious crime lord who is backing Earl Holliman as the next governor. You can guess the rest, but while Reynolds tends to lose sight of the story at times he has a good eye for individual scenes and almost gets a performance out of Rachel Ward as the high-class hooker he falls for. The romantic subplot is unusually well developed (particularly the My Funny Valentine montage), the often naturalistic repartee with his `machine' (including Richard Libertini, Brian Keith, Bernie Casey and Charles Durning) engaging, there are a couple of good action scenes and some nice touches, such as having Vittorio Gassman's lookalike villain a mirror image of the hero or Reynolds and a killer both staking out a witness from adjacent apartments in the same building. One of the star's better films from his glory days, it's no classic but it makes for a more than efficient Saturday night special.

Sadly, Warners' Region 1 NTSC DVD is a disappointing fullframe transfer. Product DescriptionAN UNDERCOVER COP PURSUES A MOB KINGPIN THROUGH THE SEAMY LANDSCAPE OF NIGHTTIME ATLANTA.Amazon.comBurt Reynolds was getting restless with the good ol' boy screen image he cultivated in Smokey & the Bandit and numerous car-chase flicks of the mid-to-late 1970s, and this brutal 1981 thriller presented the actor with an interesting change of pace. Reynolds directed the film as well, and there was a lot at stake for him both personally and professionally, so Sharky's Machine--based on a gutsy novel by William Diehl--has an urgent, no-nonsense quality that lifts it above most comparably sleazy thrillers. The plot may be sordid, but Reynolds's handling of it is not. This adds another element of freshness to the story of a demoted Atlanta vice cop (Reynolds) who pursues a personal vendetta against a crime boss (Vittorio Gassman) after falling in love with a stunning beauty (Rachel Ward) from the mobster's stable of high-priced prostitutes. The climactic shootout is violent and bloody in keeping with movies of the period (when jarring brutality was beginning to be commonplace in Hollywood films), but Reynolds doesn't go overboard. Sharky's Machine doesn't pretend to be anything more (or less) than a tough-as-nails crime movie, and it's one of Reynolds's most unusual and intelligent films. --Jeff ShannonB000092Q5HGatorB000092Q5JWhite LightningB0000C0FFVHeatB0008ENHTEBullitt (Two-Disc Special Edition)630516200XHooper163306General163296Action & Adventure404276Genres130DVD139452Video290955Blackmail, Murder & Mayhem163296Action & Adventure404276Genres130DVD139452Video290941Comic Action163296Action & Adventure404276Genres130DVD139452Video163310Thrillers163296Action & Adventure404276Genres130DVD139452Video163371General163357Comedy404276Genres130DVD139452Video923878General512030Mystery & Suspense404276Genres130DVD139452Video541988Cops541980Crime512030Mystery & Suspense404276Genres130DVD139452Video1693950114-for-3 All DVDs1081720114-for-3 DVD251273011Custom Stores44261011Specialty Stores130DVD139452Video411252Avery, Val409682( A )404278Actors & Actresses251273011Custom Stores44261011Specialty Stores130DVD139452Video416890Casey, Bernie416120( C )404278Actors & Actresses251273011Custom Stores44261011Specialty Stores130DVD139452Video421640Durning, Charles419544( D )404278Actors & Actresses251273011Custom Stores44261011Specialty Stores130DVD139452Video422974Fiedler, John422476( F )404278Actors & Actresses251273011Custom Stores44261011Specialty Stores130DVD139452Video424552Gassman, Vittorio424172( G )404278Actors & Actresses251273011Custom Stores44261011Specialty Stores130DVD139452Video427900Hickman, Darryl426368( H )404278Actors & Actresses251273011Custom Stores44261011Specialty Stores130DVD139452Video428304Holliman, Earl426368( H )404278Actors & Actresses251273011Custom Stores44261011Specialty Stores130DVD139452Video430934Keith, Brian430468( K )404278Actors & Actresses251273011Custom Stores44261011Specialty Stores130DVD139452Video431488King, Tony430468( K )404278Actors & Actresses251273011Custom Stores44261011Specialty Stores130DVD139452Video433556Libertini, Richard432148( L )404278Actors & Actresses251273011Custom Stores44261011Specialty Stores130DVD139452Video443382Rhodes, Hari442578( R )404278Actors & Actresses251273011Custom Stores44261011Specialty Stores130DVD139452Video446660Silva, Henry444858( S )404278Actors & Actresses251273011Custom Stores44261011Specialty Stores130DVD139452Video451534Ward, Rachel451116( W )404278Actors & Actresses251273011Custom Stores44261011Specialty Stores130DVD139452Video461248Reynolds, Burt461084( R )403502Directors251273011Custom Stores44261011Specialty Stores130DVD139452Video600330All Titles515794Warner Home Video468374Studio Specials251273011Custom Stores44261011Specialty Stores130DVD139452Video600312Action & Adventure515794Warner Home Video468374Studio Specials251273011Custom Stores44261011Specialty Stores130DVD139452Video600314Comedy515794Warner Home Video468374Studio Specials251273011Custom Stores44261011Specialty Stores130DVD139452Video579548( S )579510Titles251273011Custom Stores44261011Specialty Stores130DVD139452Video387546011DVD387545011Format (binding)386709011Refinements130DVD139452Video390120011Full Screen390118011Picture Format (format)386709011Refinements130DVD139452Video405388011R405383011MPAA Rating (feature_browse-bin)386709011Refinements130DVD139452Video405391011US & CA DVDs: Region 1405390011Region (feature_two_browse-bin)386709011Refinements130DVD139452Video5620900111980 - 1989562084011Decade (feature_three_browse-bin)386709011Refinements130DVD139452Video617866011English598208011Original Language (theme_browse-bin)386709011Refinements130DVD139452Video603123011Closed Caption603112011Special Editions (feature_four_browse-bin)386709011Refinements130DVD139452Video603113011Dolby603112011Special Editions (feature_four_browse-bin)386709011Refinements130DVD139452Video671505011Standard Edition603112011Special Editions (feature_four_browse-bin)386709011Refinements130DVD139452Video643791011Grade Level (feature_five_browse-bin)643792011Preschool643793011Kindergarten643794011Elementary School643800011Middle & High School643808011College643809011Post-Graduate386709011Refinements130DVD139452Video671508011Dolby671506011Audio Type (feature_six_browse-bin)386709011Refinements130DVD139452VideoR1R65U8UAYRTECBurt Reynolds, he was so cool!R26NAI0RWD75N2The Best Films Of 1981R2GZE5PDWWXQNCMy Favorite Drama Movies From The 1980sR1Y5NSX2C44EKEFavorite films & T.V. ChengJust the factsTexas02009-03-23Not for those seeking stimulation at the moviesI enjoy heady science fiction. Tarkovsky's "Solaris," Kubrick's "2001" and John Boorman's "Zardoz" always make my top ten list of sci-fi films. Nicolas Roeg's "The Man Who Fell to Earth" is in no way close in class to these other classics. It is far from a fascinating film. I've seen it twice and it's the sort of film which keeps you watching simply because you're hoping SOMETHING is going to happen. Which never does. There is no sense of awe, mystery or tension in this film other than that sense of anticipation you feel believing you might be a scene away from a revelation. Unfortunately, that moment never arrives. What this film is an excellent example of is made-on-a-shoestring, freewheelingly vague, indulgent filmmaking typical of the "outsider" films of the seventies. Unfortunately, though, many of those film had some interesting elements, this film does not. It never delivers even a trace of accidental brilliance. Except for a fine cast (especially Candy Clark, who is reminiscent of "Susan Alexander" in "Citizen Kane" (in a good way), this film would have not felt out of place at a drive-in beside "The Legend of Boggy Creek." It's really a very poor work of art, especially coming from Roeg. I suppose if you're a cineaste, and want to fill out your film history, you might think you want to see it. But I would audition it at an art house before considering adding this to your collection. There have been few sloppier, draggy films made by a major filmmaker than "The Man Who Felll to Earth." The cinematography is even lousy. I'm giving it two stars, mainly for Candy Clark and Rip Torn's performances. Oh, yes, David Bowie is rather awful, doing his impression of Andy Warhol from another planet. I know this is in the Criterion Collection - an amazing company - but don't forget, they also -- for some unknown reason -- gave their wonderful packaging and transfer treatment to "The Rock."B00007JMCX50A1H9DB7BDXDL6PA1H9DB7BDXDL6Pjordyn skye02008-11-23Moon who fell to earthGreat product. The basic story is about an alien (David Bowie) stranded on Earth who is longing for his home planet. I don't think more should be said about the plot and so on, it's best to view this remarkable and unpredictable film not knowing too much in advance. Let it be said that there are several possible interpretations and some ambiguities, and that alienation is a central theme.
Personally I find this almost two and a half hour long movie totally captivating. The transfer of the Criterion edition is fantastic, and it is good to see a movie not about the 70s but actually made in the 70s with picture quality as good as new. There's a commentary track, several intreviews and a booklet. And Criterion even puts in Walter Tevis novel which the film is based on! After seeing the movie I will get on with the novel right away.B00007JMCX50A1CCFN63MZBGLOA1CCFN63MZBGLOAdele ThompsonTinkieBrick, NJ02008-10-30The men who fell to earthThis is a very strange movie, but it's cool at the same time. The movie content is unrealistic. Why a good-looking, rich man like David Bowe would have anything to do with a brainless bimbo like the motel maid he hooked up with (until she got old and fat) is not believable. They could have written it where he met a beautiful, intelligent and sensitive woman who enriched his life as he traveled through it as an alien until he outlived her - something like the Highlander - so that the movie had some merit with a quality actor like David. Since he has so few movies as it is, I put it in my library as a collector item, only. Sorry, I'm afraid I have to rate it as a C-.Product DescriptionDavid bowie makes his unforgettable feature film debut as a visitor from a dying planet who becomes a reclusive multi-millionaire only to lose himself in an earthbound abyss of decadence self-destruction & alienation. Studio: Starz/sphe Release Date: 06/03/2008 Starring: David Bowie Candy Clark Run time: 139 minutes Rating: R Director: Nicolas RoegAmazon.comWhile other films directed by Nicolas Roeg have attained similar cult status (including Walkabout and Don't Look Now), none has been as hotly debated as this languid but oddly fascinating adaptation of the science fiction novel by Walter Tevis. David Bowie plays the alien of the title, who arrives on Earth with hopes of finding a way to save his own planet from turning into an arid wasteland. He funds this effort by capitalizing on several highly lucrative inventions, and in so doing becomes the powerful leader of an international corporate conglomerate. But his success has negative consequences as well--his contact with Earth has a disintegrating effect that sends him into a tailspin of disorientation and metaphysical despair. The sexual attention of a cheerful young woman (Candy Clark) doesn't do much to change his outlook, and his introduction to liquor proves even more devastating, until, finally, it looks as though his visit to Earth may be a permanent one. The Man Who Fell to Earth is definitely not for every taste--it's a highly contemplative, primarily visual experience that Roeg directs as an abstract treatise on (among other things) the alienating effects of an over-commercialized society. Stimulating and hypnotic or frightfully dull, depending on your receptiveness to its loosely knit ideas, it's at least in part about not belonging, about being disconnected from the world--about being a stranger in a strange land when there's really no place like home. --Jeff Shannon.B0002KQNKEThe Hunger0783225903BrazilB00008YLUXZiggy Stardust: The Motion PictureB000JYW5EGPerformanceB00005JMVQBad Timing - ChengJust the factsTexas02009-03-23Not for those seeking stimulation at the moviesI enjoy heady science fiction. I know this is in the Criterion Collection - an amazing company - but don't forget, they also -- for some unknown reason -- gave their wonderful packaging and transfer treatment to "The Rock."B000A88EVE50A1H9DB7BDXDL6PA1H9DB7BDXDL6Pjordyn skye02008-11-23Moon who fell to earthGreat product.
After seeing the movie I will get on with the novel right away.B000A88EVE50A1CCFN63MZBGLOA1CCFN63MZBGLOAdele ThompsonTinkieBrick, NJ02008-10-30The men who fell to earthThis is a very strange movie, but it's cool at the same time. It's not for childen. and i wouldn't want it to be. I don't care how old it is, but, i think the weirder it is the better. They could make it a little more weird though, make it more scary.

I love David Bowie's music.
B000A88EVE10A22CJ1RB5M8FB0A22CJ1RB5M8FB0Suzie QOhio, USA42008-08-19David Bowe oddityGood actor/bad movie: Very strange movie and not worth the caliber of actor that is David Bowe. Sorry, I'm afraid I have to rate it as a C-.DescriptionThe Man Who Fell to Earth is a daring exploration of science fiction as an art form. The story of an alien on an elaborate rescue mission provides the launching pad for Nicolas Roeg’s visual tour de force, a formally adventurous examination of alienation in contemporary life. Rock legend David Bowie completely embodies the title role, while Candy Clark, Buck Henry, and Rip Torn turn in pitch-perfect supporting performances. The film’s hallucinatory vision was obscured in the American theatrical release, which deleted nearly twenty minutes of crucial scenes and details. The Criterion Collection is proud to present Roeg’s full, uncut version, in this exclusive new director-approved high-definition widescreen transfer.Amazon.comWhile other films directed by Nicolas Roeg have attained similar cult status (including Walkabout and Don't Look Now), none has been as hotly debated as this languid but oddly fascinating adaptation of the science fiction novel by Walter Tevis. --Jeff Shannon.B0002KQNKEThe Hunger0783225903BrazilB00008YLUXZiggy Stardust: The Motion PictureB000JYW5EGPerformanceB00005JMVQBad Timing - Another 48 Hrs is just a tired retread of the first movie.

In this one Reggie Hammond(Eddie Murphy) is about to be released from jail. On his way out of prison, some biker punks shoot up his bus causing it to flip over several time. Nick's character is bent on catching a drug dealer by the name of Iceman and figures out that his case is tied in with Reggie's especially after the same people who shot at him, shot at Reggie too.

What ensues is a bunch of pointless bar brawls with stupid hicks and shoot outs with biker gang members. Eddie Murphy looks like he didnt want to be there even though I cant say the same for Nick Nolte. The movie has its moments but for the most part is kind of bland. The humor is forced and so is the chemistry between Murphy and Nolte. If you must get this movie get the two movie (48 Hrs/Another 48 HRS)on one disc deal that they have here on Amazon. At least it wont be a total lost. 48 Hrs gave birth to the buddy cop movies. Another 48 Hrs set them back a couple of years.B00000I1JZ20A3PCTD8QM1BIXIA3PCTD8QM1BIXIDerrick DunnThe Realest DJWoodbridge,VA12008-03-25By The Numbers SequelAnother 48 Hrs. isn't as good a film as the oringial but it's still has it's moments. Eddie and Nick still have the chemistry as Reggie and Jack. The action seqeunces are upped a bit and the finale of the film is action pakced, althought this is one of the films that started Eddie down's fall and it shows in his performance. But for me the action sequences and the bar scene earn the film ** 1/2 starsB00000I1JZ50A1IKOYZVFHO1XPA1IKOYZVFHO1XPandy8047Nokomis,Florida12006-12-03An awesome sequel!Eddie Murphy and Nick Nolte are back together for this sequel to the 1982-83 hit 48 HRS. As I mentioned in the review for the first film,Murphy had a long string of hit films in between that film and this one. Nolte's in-between films include DOWN AND OUT IN BEVERLY HILLS and EXTREME PREJUDICE. Plain clothes cop Jack Cates(Nolte) is on the verge of losing his police badge. We first see Reggie Hammond(Murphy) in jail for a repeat offense and he is awaiting release. Jack visits Reggie, telling him that they have more work to do. Reggie tells Jack,"You and I ain't got s--t to do! I did that cop s--t once before and don't like it.". Reggie reluctantly plays the police game again with Jack who's on suspension and they pursue a drug dealer known as the Iceman, who turns out to be Jack's co-worker Sgt. Ben Kehoe(the late Brion James). On the day of Reggie's release, all subsequent highlights for him are bad. He's been shot at,one of his favorite cassettes was stolen, the bus he rode flipped over 17 times unbelievably, and his car exploded via planted explosives. Reggie was not so thrilled by Jack visit to him in jail("I haven't seen you in years,I thought you were my friend."). Reggie even noticed differences in Jack, those being weight loss thanks to giving up booze,a new hairstyle and new clothes. "Times have changed.",quipps Jack. Yes,apparrel and hairstyles have changed between 1982(when the first film was made) and 1989(when this one was made). Sadly,Jack and Reggie aren't so much "best buds" in this film like they were in the first one. In many of the joint scenes,Reggie was so upset with Jack, mostly because Jack failed to repay money to Reggie. There are other heavily armed drug dealers who were out to get the Iceman, who ends up shot to death in one of the last scenes. Reggie,at his demand,is shot by Jack, but not fatally. Reggie is enroute to the hospital via ambulance. Jack claims a cigarette lighter from the Iceman,to remember the adventure by. The barfight scene was pretty cool although Jack initiated it and it ends with Reggie firing a bullet through the nightclub's ceiling. I liked this film better than the first. This Paramount film was directed by Walter Hill, like the first film.B00000I1JZ16A3Q2CTWNN4U3M1A3Q2CTWNN4U3M1Huey FreemanWorld ResidentAnywhere72006-08-04A very bad movie"48 hours" was a classic -- one of the most original movies ever made. This sequal is just bad. The plot is contrived and doesn't make much sense, neither Eddie nor Nick Nolte looks like they enjoyed making it, and the pure joy and fun that made the first movie so captivating is completely missing.

Not recommended.B00000I1JZ31AB2G8BE7X5IWAAB2G8BE7X5IWARobert T. Asseng Sr.DJ HoneybearModesto, Ca22006-07-22It Grows on You, But Better than the Original, c'mon Bradly! This film is one that grows on you over time. At first viewing it seems sub par to the first, but then gets better with repeat viewing. Much like Beverly Hills Cop III. Maybe over time it gains a nostalgic factor? The last two reviewers are really F'ed in the head! They are both way off the mark. The film was shot in the Bay Area and sorrounding region. Much was filmed in the central valley of California, and the prison was the same one as in the first. The music is one of the best parts of the movie. I really like that steel drum sound. What I don't like is when they try to repeat things that were naturally funny or well recieved in the first film. It just seems forced and unamusing. Reggie did eventually recognize the Iceman, but it was difficult, because he only caught a glimpse of him once a long time ago, and was probably scared crapless when he did. A cop that is the head of a crime ring is the perfect cover, and he would keep going to work everyday to keep his cover, and use his position and knowledge as a police officer to be even more powerful and in control.

There are always things done in films that are unreal and exaggerated. I don't think we all believe there is an island out there with dinosaurs on it, do we? I mean Breaking glass at a prison visitation booth, really isn't that far fetched, or unbelievable, now is it? Maybe some of the scenes were filmed down in LA, but suppose to be San Francisco? I do know that a lot of it was filmed in the N. California area. Maybe all the liberal crybabies didn't want a violent film shot in their beautiful city? Maybe they just thought Frisco had become too gay to shoot in? Who knows and who cares, that's the least of the problems with the movie!

The first film was the perfect buddy flick, and had the perfect combination of humor and drama. Most would agree, so if you don't you're a minority, and most likely WRONG! Hell, they wouldn't even have made a sequal if the original wasn't so successful, because it was so well done! The first is a Classic, and the sequel is noteworthy, and gets better as time goes by. I would definately enjoy sitting down with a nice cool drink, an array of snackables and enjoying both in one sitting. And that's the name of that tune!Product DescriptionHere they go again. Only faster. And tougher. Reggie Hammond (Murphy) and Jack Cates (Nolte) return in the smash sequel that's "better than the first" (Pat Collins, WWOR-TV). How much better? For starters, the mob puts a price on Reggie's head. The bus transporting him from the pen flips over about 17 times. His prized Porsche is blown into scrap metal. Creeps in a bar still haven't learned it's dumb to get Reddie mad. And the night is still young. Before these 48 hours are up, Reggie and Jack will turn San Francisco inside out to nail an alusive druglord. The boys are back in town...and the action's on the streets. Don't miss it!Amazon.comThe boys are back in town, but they're wearing their carbon-paper suits in this frantic but not nearly as funny sequel to the action-comedy hit. --Marshall Fine630525257248 HRS.B00005U5A8Beverly Hills Cop IIB00005U5A9Beverly Hills Cop IIIB00005U7QXBeverly Hills Cop - But talk about faux Jewry: The widows are played by Olympia Dukakis, Ellen Burstyn, and Diane Ladd. One is uptight, one is fun loving, and one is confused--and each is coping with the notion of starting a life with a new man. But only Burstyn is actually out there trying to begin anew, with the formulaically lovable Danny Aiello. Her romance drives a wedge between the friendship, but you won't care too much because the comedy (based on a Broadway play by Ivan Menchell) is so wan that it's almost nonexistent. And there's nothing these three veterans (or director Bill Duke) can do about it. --Marshall Fine6305212112Fried Green Tomatoes (Widescreen Collector's Edition)B00004TJKKSteel Magnolias (Special Edition)0767827813Murphy's RomanceB00006IZH3Divine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood (Full Screen)B000087F7DDriving Miss Daisy (Special Edition)163371General163357Comedy404276Genres130DVD139452Video722747011General AAS163375Romantic Comedies163357Comedy404276Genres130DVD139452Video163390General163379Drama404276Genres130DVD139452Video1693950114-for-3 All DVDs1081720114-for-3 DVD251273011Custom Stores44261011Specialty Stores130DVD139452Video409950Aiello, Danny409682( A )404278Actors & Actresses251273011Custom Stores44261011Specialty Stores130DVD139452Video415134Burstyn, Ellen411316( B )404278Actors & Actresses251273011Custom Stores44261011Specialty Stores130DVD139452Video416890Casey, Bernie416120( C )404278Actors & Actresses251273011Custom Stores44261011Specialty Stores130DVD139452Video418810Costanzo, Robert416120( C )404278Actors & Actresses251273011Custom Stores44261011Specialty Stores130DVD139452Video421454Dukakis, Olympia419544( D )404278Actors & Actresses251273011Custom Stores44261011Specialty Stores130DVD139452Video430818Kazan, Lainie430468( K )404278Actors & Actresses251273011Custom Stores44261011Specialty Stores130DVD139452Video432218Ladd, Diane432148( L )404278Actors & Actresses251273011Custom Stores44261011Specialty Stores130DVD139452Video435176Manson, Alan434574( M )404278Actors & Actresses251273011Custom Stores44261011Specialty Stores130DVD139452Video443410Ricci, Christina442578( R )404278Actors & Actresses251273011Custom Stores44261011Specialty Stores130DVD139452Video456372Duke, Bill455972( D )403502Directors251273011Custom Stores44261011Specialty Stores130DVD139452Video579516( C )579510Titles251273011Custom Stores44261011Specialty Stores130DVD139452Video727122011Comedy726738011The Halloween Movies & TV Sale: Over 950 DVDs and Blu-ray at Up to 59% Off251273011Custom Stores44261011Specialty Stores130DVD139452Video727125011Drama726738011The Halloween Movies & TV Sale: Over 950 DVDs and Blu-ray at Up to 59% Off251273011Custom Stores44261011Specialty Stores130DVD139452Video727135011General726738011The Halloween Movies & TV Sale: Over 950 DVDs and Blu-ray at Up to 59% Off251273011Custom Stores44261011Specialty Stores130DVD139452Video387546011DVD387545011Format (binding)386709011Refinements130DVD139452Video405387011PG-13405383011MPAA Rating (feature_browse-bin)386709011Refinements130DVD139452Video405391011US & CA DVDs: Region 1405390011Region (feature_two_browse-bin)386709011Refinements130DVD139452Video5620910111990 - 1999562084011Decade (feature_three_browse-bin)386709011Refinements130DVD139452Video617866011English598208011Original Language (theme_browse-bin)386709011Refinements130DVD139452Video603123011Closed Caption603112011Special Editions (feature_four_browse-bin)386709011Refinements130DVD139452Video671505011Standard Edition603112011Special Editions (feature_four_browse-bin)386709011Refinements130DVD139452Video643791011Grade Level (feature_five_browse-bin)643792011Preschool643793011Kindergarten643794011Elementary School643800011Middle & High School643808011College643809011Post-Graduate386709011Refinements130DVD139452Video671506011Audio Type (feature_six_browse-bin)671507011Digital Sound671508011Dolby671509011Surround Sound386709011Refinements130DVD139452VideoRDZRHTSP8KBB2Surviving your husband's deathR1RIS6TD9A6BVCMovies filmed in and around PittsburghRTNVICKIHKLHMFilm ClubR1METVS7PVG0J5Hollywood films I have seen 12R3IKNM090SBE9HMy favorite holiday movies... a partial list1ZVN4V1I4VQ2BMy Favorite Movies starring Christina Ricci1QV1F9ZJ89BMLFavorite Films Of 1993 (Part 2)B00005N7Z4http://www.amazon.com/Cornbread-Earl-Me-Moses-Gunn/dp/B00005N7Z4%3FSubscriptionId%3D1DWXK7HJTP76664KT902%26tag%3Dws%26linkCode%3Dxm2%26camp%3D2025%26creative%3D165953%26creativeASIN%3DB00005N7Z449562http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/51RGVN2HGZL._SL75_.jpg7551http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/51RGVN2HGZL._SL160_.jpg160110http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/51RGVN2HGZL.jpg475326http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/51RGVN2HGZL._SL30_.jpg3021http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/51RGVN2HGZL._SL75_.jpg7551http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/51RGVN2HGZL._SL160_.jpg160110http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/51RGVN2HGZL.jpg475326Moses GunnRosalind CashBernie CaseyMadge SinclairJamaal Wilkes1.85:1PG (Parental Guidance Suggested)DVDTWENTIETH CENTURY FOX HOME ENTJoseph Manduke9780792851134TeenAnamorphicClosed-captionedColorDolbyDVDSubtitledWidescreenNTSC0none079285113720EnglishOriginal LanguageDolby Digital 2.0 MonoSpanishSubtitledFrenchSubtitled1498USD$14.98MGM (Video & DVD)100258111975-01-016074025510DVDABIS_DVDMGM (Video & DVD)12001-10-1695MGM (Video & DVD)1975Cornbread, Earl & Me0276168678272993USD$29.931175USD$11.7562300005.0184B00005N7Z450A14ENRUZIHBOP9A14ENRUZIHBOP9Gloria J. The theme of "us against the man" was explored in a different way as no one picked up a gun and began blazing through the streets. A young Black Man that could have made it through ball but was killed along with the dream; this was told on film and in real life in different ways that were so similiar: Cochise in Cooley High, Ben Wilson in Chicago. The only diff being the man did it in this one and the Black residents that coulda and shoulda, wouldn't.
Always a pleasure to see a young Fishburne work his lines and any 70's baller recognizes Jamaal Wilkes. An excellent movie, just don't be surprised if you feel the pain too.
DescriptionHe had all the right moves to put the ball away...until the cops put him awayfor good. UCLA All-American and NBA Rookie Of The Year Keith Wilkes and Academy AwardÂ(r)* and Golden Globe** nominee Laurence Fishburne III give spectacular debut performances in this "touching...sensitive and gripping movie" (Cue) that's "guaranteed to take your emotions for a reckless ride" (L.A. Herald-Examiner)! Step into the court with Cornbread, Earl And Me...you'll be glad you did. Wilkes is "Cornbread," a promising high school basketballer who has what it takes to shoot himself right out of the ghetto...until two cops mistake him for a rapist and gun him down in cold blood. But when the police attempt to cover up their mistake, strong-arming the community into silence with threats of jail time and violence, it's up to Cornbread's 11-year-old brother Wilford (Fishburne) and his pal Earl (Tierre Turner) to find the courage to speak the truth and clear Cornbread's name. *1993: Supporting Actor, What's Love Got to Do With It **1995: Actor, "The Tuskegee Airmen"B000035P59Cooley HighB00007AJG2Claudine (1974)B000JLTRH2SparkleB000BPL2H4A Piece of the Action / Uptown Saturday NightB0000W5J4ALet's Do It Again163306General163296Action & Adventure404276Genres130DVD139452Video735598General538708African American Cinema404276Genres130DVD139452Video163390General163379Drama404276Genres130DVD139452Video740118Class Differences291236By Theme163379Drama404276Genres130DVD139452Video291298Melodrama291236By Theme163379Drama404276Genres130DVD139452Video740132Urban Life291236By Theme163379Drama404276Genres130DVD139452Video572108Sports163379Drama404276Genres130DVD139452Video416890Casey, Bernie416120( C )404278Actors & Actresses251273011Custom Stores44261011Specialty Stores130DVD139452Video416896Cash, Rosalind416120( C )404278Actors & Actresses251273011Custom Stores44261011Specialty Stores130DVD139452Video422626Fargas, Antonio422476( F )404278Actors & Actresses251273011Custom Stores44261011Specialty Stores130DVD139452Video423116Fishburne, Laurence422476( F )404278Actors & Actresses251273011Custom Stores44261011Specialty Stores130DVD139452Video424914Gierasch, Stefan424172( G )404278Actors & Actresses251273011Custom Stores44261011Specialty Stores130DVD139452Video426268Gunn, Moses424172( G )404278Actors & Actresses251273011Custom Stores44261011Specialty Stores130DVD139452Video442744Ramsey, Logan442578( R )404278Actors & Actresses251273011Custom Stores44261011Specialty Stores130DVD139452Video442832Rasulala, Thalmus442578( R )404278Actors & Actresses251273011Custom Stores44261011Specialty Stores130DVD139452Video446798Sinclair, Madge444858( S )404278Actors & Actresses251273011Custom Stores44261011Specialty Stores130DVD139452Video459496Manduke, Joseph459370( M )403502Directors251273011Custom Stores44261011Specialty Stores130DVD139452Video595276All MGM Titles468384MGM Home Entertainment468374Studio Specials251273011Custom Stores44261011Specialty Stores130DVD139452Video579516( C )579510Titles251273011Custom Stores44261011Specialty Stores130DVD139452Video387546011DVD387545011Format (binding)386709011Refinements130DVD139452Video390121011Widescreen390118011Picture Format (format)386709011Refinements130DVD139452Video405386011PG405383011MPAA Rating (feature_browse-bin)386709011Refinements130DVD139452Video405391011US & CA DVDs: Region 1405390011Region (feature_two_browse-bin)386709011Refinements130DVD139452Video5620890111970 - 1979562084011Decade (feature_three_browse-bin)386709011Refinements130DVD139452Video617866011English598208011Original Language (theme_browse-bin)386709011Refinements130DVD139452Video603123011Closed Caption603112011Special Editions (feature_four_browse-bin)386709011Refinements130DVD139452Video603113011Dolby603112011Special Editions (feature_four_browse-bin)386709011Refinements130DVD139452Video671505011Standard Edition603112011Special Editions (feature_four_browse-bin)386709011Refinements130DVD139452Video643791011Grade Level (feature_five_browse-bin)643792011Preschool643793011Kindergarten643794011Elementary School643800011Middle & High School643808011College643809011Post-Graduate386709011Refinements130DVD139452Video671508011Dolby671506011Audio Type (feature_six_browse-bin)386709011Refinements130DVD139452VideoR12CK0PSKR06GLQuintessential Black Movies, Part 1 of 4R22H4D5ZX3GT1OFunky Footage !R18JY0V9OM1L43WHY NOT...R1H36NUOSIAT23Run Away! This has to be the best video version you'll find.

There's lots of athletes we watch. There's very few we listen to. Without exception, every time you listen to Jim Brown, you will learn something new. You may not agree 100 percent. But you will learn.

Brown could have gotten lazy and traded on his celebrity for decades. But he quit football, and later the movies, ahead of schedule to spend time with at-risk youth in need of a steady hand and inspiration.

There's no way to count how many men Brown ran over, just as there's no way to count how many young men he saved.

Get it. Learn something.B0000D9BBJ41AY8WZDYR79GFVAY8WZDYR79GFVSalvatore Rossellini12008-08-14Stick to Documentaries, Spike Lee!Spike Lee has created some of the best documentaries in the history of the genre.

"Four Little Girls" and "When the Levees Broke; a Requiem in Four-Act," by themselves, justifies that statement.

"Jim Brown; All-American" given it's obvioiusly lesser subject-matter than the two aforementioned documentaries, is also a worthy effort on Spike's part.

Spike's movies are too cynical for my tastes -- but his documentaries are inspiring, moving and represent, to my way of thinking, his best efforts as an artist.

One can hear in his voice-over to this piece on Jim Brown not only his commitment to tell Jim Brown's story "like it is" -- the good as well as the bad -- but also, and most importantly, his social and political consciousness as well as his social and political *conscience.*

American filmakers take note: films are not just an industry, they can be -- and should be -- a force for social good. And Spike Lee has shown that he can lead the way.

Nothing achieves the level of art -- ever! -- without an acknowledgement on the part of the author of the social, political and economic forces that influence our lives. So you're in the game, Spike Lee. Don't let us down!B0000D9BBJ54A2DN8JMF90PJHKA2DN8JMF90PJHKMinister 8-BallAlbany, NY42006-12-01Complex Subject; Complex LifeThis documentary is probably more balanced thatn ESPN's and FOX's versions combined. Subjects like Jim Brown are difficult to be encapsuled in such a short time, but Spike probably did as good a job as any filmmaker could.

I also agree agout the balance concerning his legal issues. Allowing multiple parties to express their perspectives gives the viewer the responsibility to make up his/her own mind.

The most impressive thing was Jim expressing lament and remorse for not being the father he wanted to be for his children (prior to his present marriage to Monique and their two children). He took responsibility for their development and stated that by dealing with his personal survival and conflict with their respective mothers, the children suffer.

Overall, I highly recommend this documetary to anyone who says that athletes are one-dimensional and superficial.B0000D9BBJ51A9Q28YTLYREO7A9Q28YTLYREO7mistermaxxx@yahoo.commistermaxxxusa32004-08-08Very Good DocumentaryJim Brown is One of the Greatest athletes ever&a very down to earth&given cat. this special showcases His Career&also His Many Endevours at given back to the Community through the years. he has touched so many lives for so long.He truly reached back&has a made a world of difference.very moving&a History making Brother.Product DescriptionMovie DVDAmazon.comSpike Lee directs a flawed but fascinating portrait of the sports legend, actor, and activist in Jim Brown: All American. Interviewing former coaches, teammates, and celebrity observers (including Oliver Stone), and with Brown's cooperation, this HBO documentary is best at detailing Brown's early life. Briefly raised by a great-grandmother in Georgia, Brown moved to Long Island, where he found a supportive, predominantly white, community that encouraged his high school victories in basketball, lacrosse, tennis, and, of course, football. He encounters racism at Syracuse University, but Brown's performance and pride overwhelmed all resistance. The Cleveland Browns chapter explains how Brown dominated the game, and then Lee ventures into his subject's experiences in Hollywood and as an African American community leader. The film is engaging and disciplined until controversial issues arise--Brown's alleged abuse toward women, for example--and Lee refuses to press. But in general, this is a good piece about a charismatic, dynamic figure. --Tom Keogh0060776838Jim Brown: The Fierce Life of an American HeroB000H6SXNIThe Greatest NFL Players and CoachesB000J10F14When the Levees Broke - A Requiem In Four Acts (Documentary)B000053V7G4 Little GirlsB001BGS16CNFL History of the Cleveland Browns163452General508532Documentary404276Genres130DVD139452Video284688General467970Sports404276Genres130DVD139452Video722808011General AAS494018Basketball467970Sports404276Genres130DVD139452Video494034Documentary467970Sports404276Genres130DVD139452Video722809011General AAS494036Football (American)467970Sports404276Genres130DVD139452Video1048638All HBO Titles301540HBO251273011Custom Stores44261011Specialty Stores130DVD139452Video1048646HBO Documentary301540HBO251273011Custom Stores44261011Specialty Stores130DVD139452Video722822011General AAS301540HBO251273011Custom Stores44261011Specialty Stores130DVD139452Video416890Casey, Bernie416120( C )404278Actors & Actresses251273011Custom Stores44261011Specialty Stores130DVD139452Video459024Lee, Spike458810( L )403502Directors251273011Custom Stores44261011Specialty Stores130DVD139452Video357278011Biography357275011By Theme357227011Indie & Art House251273011Custom Stores44261011Specialty Stores130DVD139452Video357284011Documentaries357275011By Theme357227011Indie & Art House251273011Custom Stores44261011Specialty Stores130DVD139452Video357228011General357227011Indie & Art House251273011Custom Stores44261011Specialty Stores130DVD139452Video357250011Spike Lee357235011By Director357227011Indie & Art House251273011Custom Stores44261011Specialty Stores130DVD139452Video579530( J )579510Titles251273011Custom Stores44261011Specialty Stores130DVD139452Video387546011DVD387545011Format (binding)386709011Refinements130DVD139452Video390121011Widescreen390118011Picture Format (format)386709011Refinements130DVD139452Video405384011Unrated405383011MPAA Rating (feature_browse-bin)386709011Refinements130DVD139452Video405391011US & CA DVDs: Region 1405390011Region (feature_two_browse-bin)386709011Refinements130DVD139452Video5620920112000 & Newer562084011Decade (feature_three_browse-bin)386709011Refinements130DVD139452Video617866011English598208011Original Language (theme_browse-bin)386709011Refinements130DVD139452Video603123011Closed Caption603112011Special Editions (feature_four_browse-bin)386709011Refinements130DVD139452Video603113011Dolby603112011Special Editions (feature_four_browse-bin)386709011Refinements130DVD139452Video671505011Standard Edition603112011Special Editions (feature_four_browse-bin)386709011Refinements130DVD139452Video643791011Grade Level (feature_five_browse-bin)643792011Preschool643793011Kindergarten643794011Elementary School643800011Middle & High School643808011College643809011Post-Graduate386709011Refinements130DVD139452Video671508011Dolby671506011Audio Type (feature_six_browse-bin)386709011Refinements130DVD139452VideoR1S4QLQAW66K6TSpike Lee Joints2G0ESS13H7WSXSpike Lee Joints Ranked2SSIKRRG85DUNRaquel Welch on DVD: 1978-20031FCDQXP4NXPH8Documentaries w/Foreign SubtitlesO7K0GAFXQP91African-American Men in Documentary1WSGAVK88PEHNSpike12Z579SFWFWOXSpike Lee Joints for beginners
