John Varley's time travel story "Millennium" which came out both as this film and as a full length novel with the same title in the 1980's is one of his best pieces of writing.

Varley's initial concept was first published as the short story "Air Raid" and he was commissioned to write the screenplay for this film version: at about the same time as the film came out he published an extended version of the short story, lining up with the film but including some rather broader themes and more detail in several areas, as the novel "Millennium."

If you have read the novel and are wondering whether the DVD measures up, it was not practical for the film makers to get the full scope of the novel into this film adaptation, but they did a pretty good job. Most of the political comments about air safety in the book, particularly those about the battle between Ronald Reagan and the air traffic controllers did not make it into this film, and neither did the quasi-religious aspects of the book. But most of the guts of the story did.

In particular, the film is faithful to the plot and tone of the novel, including both the central romance and some of the most gripping action scenes. Both the book and the film captures brilliantly some of the most memorable scenes in the story, and incorporate one or two quite funny moments, none of which I can begin to describe without spoiling the story.

Kris Kristofferson is excellent as an air crash investigator, who discovers some unusual anomalies in the wreck of an aircraft. Cheryl Ladd is equally brilliant as the mysterious woman who sleeps with him and then disappears. As the story continues we learn more about the investigator's past, and why the mysterious woman reminds him so much of someone he remembers from his childhood.

I can recommend both the book and the film. If you might want to experience both I don't think it makes any difference in what order you do it.

DVD extras are a little basic: they include a trailer, short filmographies on Kristofferson, Ladd, and one or two other people, a short synopsis of what the producer was trying to do, and an alternative ending, which differs only in the backdrop to the Winston Churchill quote which provides the very last words of the film.

Varley made a joke about this book (and film) in one of his much more recent novels, "Mammoth" which I can also highly recommend. 078401133811A173FMNF9I7AWUA173FMNF9I7AWULynn M. Schultethe duck queenaltadena, ca22008-04-19feels longer than a milleniumI saw this movie when it first came out, and the thing I remember most was that halfway through I was so bored that I wandered out and bought popcorn and played video games for a while before going back to check on my friend in the theatre. I asked what I had missed and she just looked up with glazed eyes and said "nothing, they just had the longest flashback in movie history and replayed half the movie! "
This story had potential, but was just so badly done that it is almost unwatchable.
Later I found the story it was based on, I think it was about 8 pages and covered everything it need to. 078401133841A2RSDZALWQ0YP6A2RSDZALWQ0YP6walksndarkwalksndarkMA USA12008-01-18The inspiration for "LOST"I suggest you buy this movie if you find it, it has been pulled from publication for a very dubious rea. IMHO, the TV series "LOST" is using key points of this movie for it's plot concept.

The fun begins when airline-disaster investigator Kristofferson meets mysterious airline employee Ladd while checking out the wreckage of the latest crash. Because Ladd, done up in an appalling perm and enough eyeliner to outfit a pack of raccoons, looks like she's about to shoot The Donna Mills Story, you first suspect Kristofferson might be the weird one -- he invites her to dinner. Then Ladd chain-smokes while eating, a dead giveaway that she's the movie's space case. And that's before she has sex with Kristofferson and gushes, "You're the best thing in a thousand years!" Apparently well aware he's not that good in the sack, Kristofferson responds, "The first rule is: Don't go to bed with anyone crazier than yourself. You're right up there on the top 10 of my Weird List, lady." To which Ladd replies, "If you knew me better, I'd be number one." Then, when Kristofferson's back is turned, Ladd disappears -- literally.

Wandering alone in the plane wreckage the day after this romp, Kristofferson comes upon what looks like a futuristic set of brass knuckles. And indeed, when he touches it, he's knocked out! Then, lo, a tacky blue hologram appears in the air, and Ladd steps out of it in S&M Tinkerbellesque regalia with a hairdo shaped like a giant Foster's Freeze soft ice cream swirl. Yes, Ladd is actually a human visitor from a thousand years into the future. She's here on a mission to -- well, let her tell it: "We're all dying. We can't have children anymore. We steal people from the past and send them somewhere else to start over, to give them a second chance." That's right: Ladd takes airline passengers who are about to crash and transports them to the future. But what about the dead bodies found after the crash? Ladd simply brings a supply of look-alike corpses from the future to leave behind in the live passengers' seats. Ah, but how does she get the passengers to cooperate? Well, that's what the brass knuckles are for, dummy.

Alas, two of the stunner devices were left behind on this latest crash and Ladd's got to retrieve them or "a paradox" will occur and destroy the future. A what? As Nobel Prize-winning physicist Daniel J. Travanti explains, "Say you build a time machine, go back, and murder your father when he was 10 years old. That means you were never born, and if you weren't, how did you build the time machine?" See, this is why Ladd was willing to sleep with Kristofferson - she thought he had the devices. So when Kristofferson sees the futuristic Ladd in the plane wreckage, she's still after the stunner, which she finds and takes with her in her tacky blue time-travel hologram before Kristofferson can ask her on a second date. Later, it turns out that Dr. Travanti has the second scanner, but when Ladd appears from the future this time, Travanti accidentally zaps himself to death with it. For reasons you really don't want to know, this causes the dreaded paradox, which compels Ladd to take Kristofferson back to her future world, where everything is rapidly coming apart -- which is hardly surprising since it's one of the cheapest-looking sets ever seen in a sci-fi pic. Just before the world explodes, Ladd resets the time-travel dial so she and Kristofferson can go even further into the future -- in hopes of more convincing production design, better scripts and more flattering hairstyles.
Amazon.comTime-hoppers from the future, led by Cheryl Ladd, are abducting airline passengers about to crash, and transporting them a millennium hence in order to reseed a future blighted by environmental disaster. This is a dangerous business, plagued by the specter of accidentally creating time paradoxes, which could throw the future out of whack. Unfortunately, they've lost a couple of the stunners they use to subdue troublesome passengers, and these fall into the hands of a curious physicist (Daniel J. Travanti) and an investigator for the National Transportation Safety Board (Kris Kristofferson). Cheryl Ladd must retrieve these devices before a time paradox wipes out her world, but manages to complicate things by developing a romance with Kristofferson. All of which is very intriguing, having come from the short story, "Air Raid," by science fiction luminary John Varley, who also is credited with the screenplay. The part about airline abductions to save the disastrous future is straight from the original story, and the rest is expanded (you wouldn't say extrapolated) from it. The results are not very happy. About a third of the film is maddeningly wasted by repeating action from a different point of view. Seems natural when there are disparate timelines to deal with, but here nothing is added by the conceit. Only Travanti turns in a creditable performance as the physicist, bent on proving his theories about the future. He seems hungry for discovery, which is one of the things you want from a science fiction story, that sense of awe. But here it's just, "Aw, shucks!" --Jim Gay6305971935The Philadelphia ExperimentB000096IACThe Final Countdown (Widescreen Edition)B000BZN1NM12:01B00079HZS4The Philadelphia Experiment 2B001BGS17QTime After Time163442General163431Science Fiction & Fantasy404276Genres130DVD139452Video292667Time Travel510839011Science Fiction163431Science Fiction & Fantasy404276Genres130DVD139452Video1081810114-for-3 Science Fiction & Fantasy1081720114-for-3 DVD251273011Custom Stores44261011Specialty Stores130DVD139452Video1693950114-for-3 All DVDs1081720114-for-3 DVD251273011Custom Stores44261011Specialty Stores130DVD139452Video409982Akin, Philip409682( A )404278Actors & Actresses251273011Custom Stores44261011Specialty Stores130DVD139452Video413482Bochner, Lloyd411316( B )404278Actors & Actresses251273011Custom Stores44261011Specialty Stores130DVD139452Video417458Chaykin, Maury416120( C )404278Actors & Actresses251273011Custom Stores44261011Specialty Stores130DVD139452Video417860Clark, Eugene A416120( C )404278Actors & Actresses251273011Custom Stores44261011Specialty Stores130DVD139452Video417862Clark, Eugene C416120( C )404278Actors & Actresses251273011Custom Stores44261011Specialty Stores130DVD139452Video419726Dane, Lawrence419544( D )404278Actors & Actresses251273011Custom Stores44261011Specialty Stores130DVD139452Video421700Dvorsky, Peter419544( D )404278Actors & Actresses251273011Custom Stores44261011Specialty Stores130DVD139452Video430396Joy, Robert429340( J )404278Actors & Actresses251273011Custom Stores44261011Specialty Stores130DVD139452Video431984Kristofferson, Kris430468( K )404278Actors & Actresses251273011Custom Stores44261011Specialty Stores130DVD139452Video432214Ladd, Cheryl432148( L )404278Actors & Actresses251273011Custom Stores44261011Specialty Stores130DVD139452Video436492McIlwraith, David434574( M )404278Actors & Actresses251273011Custom Stores44261011Specialty Stores130DVD139452Video443334Reynolds, Michael J442578( R )404278Actors & Actresses251273011Custom Stores44261011Specialty Stores130DVD139452Video447074Smith, Cedric444858( S )404278Actors & Actresses251273011Custom Stores44261011Specialty Stores130DVD139452Video447298Snow, Victoria444858( S )404278Actors & Actresses251273011Custom Stores44261011Specialty Stores130DVD139452Video449974Travanti, Daniel J448792( T )404278Actors & Actresses251273011Custom Stores44261011Specialty Stores130DVD139452Video451794Waxman, Al451116( W )404278Actors & Actresses251273011Custom Stores44261011Specialty Stores130DVD139452Video454196Anderson, Michael454022( A )403502Directors251273011Custom Stores44261011Specialty Stores130DVD139452Video542648Lionsgate DVDs Under $10468376Lionsgate Home Entertainment468374Studio Specials251273011Custom Stores44261011Specialty Stores130DVD139452Video468378Top Sellers468376Lionsgate Home Entertainment468374Studio Specials251273011Custom Stores44261011Specialty Stores130DVD139452Video354767011All Lionsgate Titles468376Lionsgate Home Entertainment468374Studio Specials251273011Custom Stores44261011Specialty Stores130DVD139452Video579536( M )579510Titles251273011Custom Stores44261011Specialty Stores130DVD139452Video387546011DVD387545011Format (binding)386709011Refinements130DVD139452Video390121011Widescreen390118011Picture Format (format)386709011Refinements130DVD139452Video405387011PG-13405383011MPAA Rating (feature_browse-bin)386709011Refinements130DVD139452Video405392011DVDs Playable in any Region405390011Region (feature_two_browse-bin)386709011Refinements130DVD139452Video5620900111980 - 1989562084011Decade (feature_three_browse-bin)386709011Refinements130DVD139452Video617866011English598208011Original Language (theme_browse-bin)386709011Refinements130DVD139452Video603123011Closed Caption603112011Special Editions (feature_four_browse-bin)386709011Refinements130DVD139452Video603113011Dolby603112011Special Editions (feature_four_browse-bin)386709011Refinements130DVD139452Video671505011Standard Edition603112011Special Editions (feature_four_browse-bin)386709011Refinements130DVD139452Video643791011Grade Level (feature_five_browse-bin)643792011Preschool643793011Kindergarten643794011Elementary School643800011Middle & High School643808011College643809011Post-Graduate386709011Refinements130DVD139452Video671508011Dolby671506011Audio Type (feature_six_browse-bin)386709011Refinements130DVD139452Video3SOWNP59AL5ERMy Favorite and Not-So-Favorite Time Travel Movies8IYRGXRE4OITCool sci fi films12G0GHP220O9ZBad Future3EQDY3YLSYCRVMovies to Have When Snowed In for the WeekendOLH73W6U1COVThings that irritate me to no end.2OZZVNAQ9X1GCBoppin' Through Time4RC180V46YKGEarth is TOAST! I believe it is based on the novel.B00006472S39A2CW9IQAPFEYLMA2CW9IQAPFEYLMBomojazSouth Central PA, USA122005-04-07Between a rock and a hard placeBased on Sue Miller's novel, this is about a somewhat frigid woman (Diane Keaton) who is raising her 8-year-old daughter using modern, open ideas. She then meets a man (Liam Neeson) who causes her own sexuality to blossom. But an "incident" occurs between Neeson and the daughter that filters back to the ex-husband who then fights Keaton for custody of the girl. Neeson is made out to be a sleazebucket at the trial, and Keaton sacrifices him in the attempt to win her daughter back. Of course Keaton's all-out battle to win her daughter back is admirable, and I suppose it is meant for us to think of her as a victim of a male-run society that is penalyzing her for her sudden sexual blossoming and openness in child rearing. I couldn't help, though, shedding a tear or two for Neeson, who is the sacrificial lamb here. Keaton's performance is typical, which for me is not saying very much: I don't care for her as an actress and find her overacting most of the time. B00006472S517A2LJKDPRVR907SA2LJKDPRVR907SLisa VersonDayton, OH222003-07-16So Powerful, So WonderfulI was warned before watching this movie that it would not be one of those 'sit in front of the television with a bowl of popcorn' movies. For half of the movie, I just sat there, my eyes glued to the screen, watching Diane Keaton in a simply wonderful and dramatic role.
Anna Dunlap (Keaton) is a newly divorced woman with an adorable six year old daughter. They have a wonderful relationship, and it is very evident when you sit down and watch them together. Enter Liam Neeson. He starts out as a person with whom you would not want to get to know, but after a few minutes, he reveals that he's just in a bad mood and he is actually quite nice. When he first meets Molly (the very adorable Asia Vieira), she is very shy towards him, but she learns to like him and you can see that there is a bond between them. When something happens (I don't want to say what), and Molly's father wants full-time custody of her, the movie becomes a full-blown drama. It is, I admit, hard to watch some of the courtroom scenes, but they are so powerful and they draw you into the story. In a way, I saw the end result coming, but not exactly like it did. It definitely showed finality in the family.
Keaton's performace, like I said above, was incredibly powerful and she does a wonderful job portraying Molly's mother. The main reason I bought this movie was because of Diane Keaton, since she is my favorite actress and this movie shows her in her best dramatic role, in my opinion. If only it had received higher reviews when it came out. But I go by what looks good to me, and to me, this looked good, mainly because of the cast and the story.B00006472S510A15RB66290XLRHA15RB66290XLRHJessicajoanphilipThe Bay State162001-03-03Simply a must-seeBeing a tremendous fan of Diane Keaton's work, I rented this movie (I'm still... that this movie isn't sold anywhere), and it immediately rated as one of my top-ten favorite Keaton videos. It honestly is an enigma that this movie didn't get enough praise it deserves. Most of the scenes are incredibly sweet, warm, and intimate. That's what makes this movie so great. When Keaton's character, Anna, meets Liam Neeson's character, Leo, there's a unmistakable bond forming. I especially love the scene when Anna goes to Leo's apartment and Leo and Anna becomes one, dancing in front of Leo's sculpture, making shadows on the wall from the light shining on them from behind. This is an esoteric concept of first love. I really thought it was so sweet when Anna confessed to Leo that she thought she wasn't very good at sex, and he gently assures her that they can fix that. There's no judgment in that scene;it's obvious that Leo really loves Anna, and their love is vivid. Another favorite scene is when Anna and her daughter, Molly, are in the bathtub with Leo reading to them. This is truly intimate, and I just love the fact that they were so open-minded about being naked in front of Molly. There's just so much tenderness and love. It was, to me, beautiful. And yet another favorite scene is when Molly has a bad dream and goes into Anna's room while she and Leo are making love, and they comfort her until she falls asleep. There's another display of intimacy, about caring and love. The three of them together was absolutely wonderful. That is why I found it incredibly appalling that Anna's ex-husband, Brian, goes to court for something that happened between Molly and Leo that had absoluely no intention of happening. (I won't ruin the ending for you). But I found the ending truly sad and final. A soon-to-be family are wrenched apart by an innocent mistake. I felt bad, because I knew they could have had a wonderful life together. I also felt bad for Anna and Leo. I could really see their love shown for each other. They were so comfortable together; their feelings for each other were vivid and beautiful. This is a movie of non-judgment and unconditional love, and that's what makes it so special. I honestly don't understand why this movie was considered a failure. Keaton is at her best in this movie, and Neeson is simply wonderful. I consider myself as an efficient movie critic, and I know which movies are bad or good. This movie is a MUST-SEE!!! I acclaim Keaton especially for her wonderful work in this movie. 'The Good Mother' is proof that Keaton is one of the world's most rare and special actresses. If you're not suffering from brain deterioration, immediately rent this movie! You won't regret it.DescriptionEvery passion has its price. For Anna Dunlap (Academy Award(R)-winner Diane Keaton), a recent divorcee and mother of a young daughter, Molly, the price may be devastating. Discovering true passion for the first time in her life after meeting artist Leo Cutter (Liam Neeson, STAR WARS, EPISODE I: THE PHANTOM MENACE), Anna's life couldn't be more perfect.
This an older children's literature book. It is timeless and this movie is faithful to the book. It is one that will have students spellbound and asking the age old question of WHY? Just as we do now. I can highly recommend it ... My sixth graders loved it ... LHLB000093FHD4772003-12-04Not as good as the ORIGINAL - as is for most things in LIFEThere is something authentic about the original that this new version lacks. I remember being a child in school watching the Cicely Tyson & Paul Winfield classic, and I'm just being honest, but nothing beats the original. If you're going to watch the modern remake, do yourself the favor and enjoy the classic too! It's one-of-a-kind :)B000093FHD54A2OCFBXHVWNCY2A2OCFBXHVWNCY2Tasha Nicole EtienneCaptiol Heights, MD United States132003-05-06I loved it!Even though this production was my cousin, Daniel Lee Robertson's first movie, I'm not going to be biased. I loved it!!!
Congrats Dan Dan!DescriptionFrom the classic book by William H. Armstrong comes Disney's all-new production of SOUNDER, an uplifting story of one boy's faith, strength, and dogged determination. As Boy's (Daniel Lee Robertson III) family faces the daily struggles of Depression-era sharecroppers, a loyal coonhound named Sounder becomes their only real friend. Food is scarce, and nightly hunting trips offer little relief. In an act of desperation, Father steals to feed his hungry family. When Father is convicted, it triggers Boy's courageous journey to find him in the labor camps. Boy comes a long way to discover much more -- a friendly teacher, a hunger to read, and a better life.Amazon.comIn a quirk of film history, this new version of the 1972 classic is directed by Kevin Hooks--who played the central role of the sharecropper's son in the original. That's a nice full circle, although it leaves unanswered a basic question: why bother remaking a movie that got it right the first time? The story is simplicity: a black family in the Depression suffers when the father is arrested for stealing a ham. The punishment? Five years, hard labor. Sounder has an under-rehearsed, rushed quality common to low-budget TV pictures, although Carl Lumbly brings a powerful presence to the role of the father. (That's Paul Winfield, the star of the original, as the teacher who befriends the son.) The shortcomings may not matter much to the young audiences Disney targets, as they'll probably be too busy rooting for the return of the dog that gives the movie its name. --Robert HortonB0002S64VOWhere the Red Fern Grows0064400204Sounder1557345309A Guide for Using Sounder in the ClassroomB000AJJNIGOld Yeller 2-Movie Collection (Old Yeller/Savage Sam)B00006675SThe Biscuit Eater735598General538708African American Cinema404276Genres130DVD139452Video163390General163379Drama404276Genres130DVD139452Video740136Down on Their Luck291236By Theme163379Drama404276Genres130DVD139452Video722752011General AAS740138Family Life163379Drama404276Genres130DVD139452Video291309Period Piece163379Drama404276Genres130DVD139452Video722754011General AAS291513Television163379Drama404276Genres130DVD139452Video572062Coming of Age163379Drama404276Genres130DVD139452Video163417General163414Kids & Family404276Genres130DVD139452Video300399Drama163414Kids & Family404276Genres130DVD139452Video595062Family Films163414Kids & Family404276Genres130DVD139452Video509094Beach Boys465350Artists163420Music Video & Concerts404276Genres130DVD139452Video722774011General AAS511462Classic Rock163420Music Video & Concerts404276Genres130DVD139452Video415914General163450Television404276Genres130DVD139452Video417860Clark, Eugene A416120( C )404278Actors & Actresses251273011Custom Stores44261011Specialty Stores130DVD139452Video417862Clark, Eugene C416120( C )404278Actors & Actresses251273011Custom Stores44261011Specialty Stores130DVD139452Video434348Lumbly, Carl432148( L )404278Actors & Actresses251273011Custom Stores44261011Specialty Stores130DVD139452Video434756MacNeill, Peter434574( M )404278Actors & Actresses251273011Custom Stores44261011Specialty Stores130DVD139452Video448072Stevenson, Patrick444858( S )404278Actors & Actresses251273011Custom Stores44261011Specialty Stores130DVD139452Video452908Winfield, Paul451116( W )404278Actors & Actresses251273011Custom Stores44261011Specialty Stores130DVD139452Video457926Hooks, Kevin403504( H )403502Directors251273011Custom Stores44261011Specialty Stores130DVD139452Video579548( S )579510Titles251273011Custom Stores44261011Specialty Stores130DVD139452Video300382All Disney Titles300381Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment251273011Custom Stores44261011Specialty Stores130DVD139452Video1261364011Movies & TV: Disney Dogs: Space Buddies, 101 Dalmatians, Goofy, Air Bud, Old Yeller251273011Custom Stores44261011Specialty Stores130DVD139452Video387546011DVD387545011Format (binding)386709011Refinements130DVD139452Video390121011Widescreen390118011Picture Format (format)386709011Refinements130DVD139452Video405386011PG405383011MPAA Rating (feature_browse-bin)386709011Refinements130DVD139452Video405391011US & CA DVDs: Region 1405390011Region (feature_two_browse-bin)386709011Refinements130DVD139452Video5620920112000 & Newer562084011Decade (feature_three_browse-bin)386709011Refinements130DVD139452Video617866011English598208011Original Language (theme_browse-bin)386709011Refinements130DVD139452Video603123011Closed Caption603112011Special Editions (feature_four_browse-bin)386709011Refinements130DVD139452Video603113011Dolby603112011Special Editions (feature_four_browse-bin)386709011Refinements130DVD139452Video671505011Standard Edition603112011Special Editions (feature_four_browse-bin)386709011Refinements130DVD139452Video643791011Grade Level (feature_five_browse-bin)643792011Preschool643793011Kindergarten643794011Elementary School643800011Middle & High School643808011College643809011Post-Graduate386709011Refinements130DVD139452Video671508011Dolby671506011Audio Type (feature_six_browse-bin)386709011Refinements130DVD139452VideoB0000D0YWFhttp://www.amazon.com/House-Dies-Drear-Howard-Rollins/dp/B0000D0YWF%3FSubscriptionId%3D1DWXK7HJTP76664KT902%26tag%3Dws%26linkCode%3Dxm2%26camp%3D2025%26creative%3D165953%26creativeASIN%3DB0000D0YWF58684http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/517Z73GVC4L._SL75_.jpg7553http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/517Z73GVC4L._SL160_.jpg160113http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/517Z73GVC4L.jpg475336http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/517Z73GVC4L._SL30_.jpg3021http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/517Z73GVC4L._SL75_.jpg7553http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/517Z73GVC4L._SL160_.jpg160113http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/517Z73GVC4L.jpg475336Howard E.
It's basically the story of a young black man and his family who move into a historic house that was owned by Dies Drear, a Dutch abolitionist who hid slaves and helped them escape to freedom. There is a rumored treasure hidden somewhere on the land. The family soon begins to suspect that the ghosts of slaves who passed through there are haunting the house when they meet a strange man who seems to know many secrets.

This movie is about as dry as the Sahara Desert. Pras of the Fugees plays Diamond, a former drug dealer who aspires to be a rapper. Ja Rule plays his best friend "Gage", who goes out of his way to help him at the risk of getting beatdown for not paying the people he owes money on time. The simplistic storyline is not the reason why this movie sucks. The "actors" are the reason for this film's lousiness. Pras cant act! Repeat: PRAS CANT ACT! Picture a slug crawling in a garden. That's Pras's personality summed up in a nutshell. Ja Rule is not a great actor either but he's better than Pras! Oh yeah, the songs they perform in this movie blows as expected. The little actions scenes in this movie are pathetic and the other actors who star in it such as Tamala Jones, Vondie Curtis-Hall and Jason Statham of "Crank" fame dont add much to this movie. Turn it up? How about turning that racket down so I can get some sleep!B000059HA64342004-04-20Turn it upAll in all a respectable movie. Obviously no urban movies are gunna be winning awards but if given the proper amount of showing to audiences this movie could rate up there with the best urban movies. Ja rule's acting is amazing for a freshman appearence and pras hits the sympathetic actor alrite. I give it about 7.5/10 on my scale and would highly suggest watching it to any fan of hip hop. The soundtrack to go with it/songs preformed within the movie by ja rule and pras are also very good.B000059HA612A2QNHE5RQRHCBZA2QNHE5RQRHCBZgzsonitsactown ca52003-06-25turn it offif pac was still here now he would never ride with ja nah nah nah nah nah nahB000059HA635A16MWUPMCGIHA3A16MWUPMCGIHA3jude_uLondon, England United Kingdom72002-04-08It was pure [baloney], but I kinda liked it...The plot was tired, but the acting was ok especially Ja Rule who seemed a natural to his role. What is this ...? Needs a zero star!I gave it a chance and not suprisingly I was thoroughly sickened. This is one of the latest in a crop of Hip Hop crime dramas featuring the same horrible rappers that fuel the ... soundtracks in the acting roles. This movie left a foul taste in my mouth and quite a headache. This is further proof that Rap is ruining all forms of entertainment. Do yourself a favor and stay away from this incorrigible trash. Word Yo!Product DescriptionAbout a gifted musicians struggle to rise above the crime plagued urban streets and realize his dream. Diamond is unwittingly drawn into the world of drug-running by his childhood friend gage. The sudden death of diamonds mother forces diamond to make hard choices about his life. Studio: Warner Home Video Release Date: 04/19/2005 Starring: Ja Rule Tamala Jones Run time: 86 minutes Rating: R Director: Robert AdetuyiAmazon.comRappers Pras and Ja Rule star as Diamond and Gage, drug-dealing buddies on the mean streets of New York, in this energetic but hopelessly muddled hip-hop crime thriller. You've seen it all before: the childhood street pals hit the crisis point when Diamond wants to go straight and hot-headed Gage aspires to become the baddest gangsta on the block. Ja Rule plays the loose cannon bad boy Gage with pent-up anger and a bullying sneer, a firecracker next to burnt-out match Pras, whose commitment-shy suffering artist has a sleepy, withdrawn blandness until he's out on the streets. "I can't guarantee I'll be there for you," Diamond lamely sputters to his pregnant girlfriend before heading back out for a night of music and gunplay, coming to life with two-fisted ferocity as he coolly empties clip after clip into rival gangs. Director-screenwriter Robert Adetuyi never worries about reconciling the two sides of Diamond, and the contradictory clichés about loyalty and responsibility are delivered without a trace of irony. The John Woo-inspired action scenes are the highlights of the film, flashy, high-energy explosions of excitement that reveal Diamond as a cool-headed, criminally sharp gangster at heart. He just doesn't know it, and the film is too embarrassed to admit it. This glib, sense-numbing action fantasy coasts on the energy of the action and the music while having it both ways: violence without personal consequences and decisions without repercussions. --Sean Axmaker B000EU1Q7MLondonB00003CY6PGhosts of Mars (Special Edition)B0010YVCB6ChaosB0006D3HGACellular (New Line Platinum Series)B0011VIO3MRevolver163306General163296Action & Adventure404276Genres130DVD139452Video163304Crime163296Action & Adventure404276Genres130DVD139452Video163390General163379Drama404276Genres130DVD139452Video291515Mystery & Thriller510650By Genre163379Drama404276Genres130DVD139452Video740132Urban Life291236By Theme163379Drama404276Genres130DVD139452Video291473Crime & Criminals163379Drama404276Genres130DVD139452Video291492Murder & Mayhem163379Drama404276Genres130DVD139452Video722781011General AAS510318Rap & Hip-Hop163420Music Video & Concerts404276Genres130DVD139452Video722787011General AAS541980Crime512030Mystery & Suspense404276Genres130DVD139452Video417860Clark, Eugene A416120( C )404278Actors & Actresses251273011Custom Stores44261011Specialty Stores130DVD139452Video417862Clark, Eugene C416120( C )404278Actors & Actresses251273011Custom Stores44261011Specialty Stores130DVD139452Video430284Jones, Tamala429340( J )404278Actors & Actresses251273011Custom Stores44261011Specialty Stores130DVD139452Video667421011Statham, Jason444858( S )404278Actors & Actresses251273011Custom Stores44261011Specialty Stores130DVD139452Video579550( T )579510Titles251273011Custom Stores44261011Specialty Stores130DVD139452Video387546011DVD387545011Format (binding)386709011Refinements130DVD139452Video390120011Full Screen390118011Picture Format (format)386709011Refinements130DVD139452Video390121011Widescreen390118011Picture Format (format)386709011Refinements130DVD139452Video671501011Letterboxed390118011Picture Format (format)386709011Refinements130DVD139452Video405388011R405383011MPAA Rating (feature_browse-bin)386709011Refinements130DVD139452Video405391011US & CA DVDs: Region 1405390011Region (feature_two_browse-bin)386709011Refinements130DVD139452Video5620920112000 & Newer562084011Decade (feature_three_browse-bin)386709011Refinements130DVD139452Video617866011English598208011Original Language (theme_browse-bin)386709011Refinements130DVD139452Video603123011Closed Caption603112011Special Editions (feature_four_browse-bin)386709011Refinements130DVD139452Video603113011Dolby603112011Special Editions (feature_four_browse-bin)386709011Refinements130DVD139452Video603119011Letterboxed603112011Special Editions (feature_four_browse-bin)386709011Refinements130DVD139452Video671505011Standard Edition603112011Special Editions (feature_four_browse-bin)386709011Refinements130DVD139452Video643791011Grade Level (feature_five_browse-bin)643792011Preschool643793011Kindergarten643794011Elementary School643800011Middle & High School643808011College643809011Post-Graduate386709011Refinements130DVD139452Video671508011Dolby671506011Audio Type (feature_six_browse-bin)386709011Refinements130DVD139452VideoR13OI8XWXAPUPUBest GHETTO Hood-GANGSTA 's MOVIES !RYY9KWYSWLQI4Jason Statham FilmsR3ET1M1H5NKR9QJason StathamRENSC01OG3BNFDisasterpiece Theater (Black Cinema edition)1UTNE8BQQ8RPJRAPPERS in movies that are GOOD!246RVBDVQ9H8RTop 10 Movies of 200027UDCG9C7T519Top 20 MoviesB00009MECJhttp://www.amazon.com/Robocop-Directives-Meltdown-Page-Fletcher/dp/B00009MECJ%3FSubscriptionId%3D1DWXK7HJTP76664KT902%26tag%3Dws%26linkCode%3Dxm2%26camp%3D2025%26creative%3D165953%26creativeASIN%3DB00009MECJ38756http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/51us2y3OxEL._SL75_.jpg7552http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/51us2y3OxEL._SL160_.jpg160112http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/51us2y3OxEL.jpg500350http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/51us2y3OxEL._SL30_.jpg3021http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/51us2y3OxEL._SL75_.jpg7552http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/51us2y3OxEL._SL160_.jpg160112http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/51us2y3OxEL.jpg500350Page FletcherMaurice Dean WintMaria del MarGeraint Wyn DaviesLeslie HopeR (Restricted)DVDLions GateAdam HaightDebbie FirestoneJay FirestoneBrad AbrahamEdward NeumeierJoseph O'BrienMichael MinerJulian Grant9781588178589Closed-captionedColorDVDSubtitledWidescreenNTSC1588178587EnglishOriginal LanguageEnglishSubtitledSpanishSubtitled1498USD$14.98Lions GateVMMD8407D12001-07-165871018542DVDABIS_DVDLions Gate12003-07-08375Lions Gate2001-07-16Robocop - Prime Directives - Meltdown031398840725566USD$5.66345USD$3.4533110011ATVPDKIKX0DERhttp://www.amazon.com/gp/help/seller/home.html?seller=ATVPDKIKX0DER0.00NewnewYMYl5QOpXDK21gp9gYT%2BPp11ZeNjRUvG%2BrFWjk8O5g2ebW2m9QreV0d03knEWVKe4TOgpzimnEpA7hZooS9Viw%3D%3D849USD$8.49649USD$6.4943Usually ships in 24 hoursnow00-113.59820B00009MECJ40A1QBLF7BMBZXQ4A1QBLF7BMBZXQ4Troy G.Houston, TX USA02009-06-13Filmed in HoustonThis city really does stand in for Detroit, where the film takes place. This had Tom Noonan play an evil son of a b***h he shoots a woman scared out of her mind kills her he and his cult members dismantle Robo and then kill a cop who is an inside man for telling Robo where his hideout is at. When he's killed by Robo his brain is then used for Robocop 2 by Dr. Julia Faxx she's a b***h big time. She's played by Belinda Bauer. The Old man always defends her. While everybody else in OCP hates her. Cain as R2 kills his own girlfriend Also kills Hob a 14 year old kid who is a A HOLE he's played by Gaberial Damon. You know he hides behind the fact he's under age and he tells Robo can't shoot kids can you F**KER. He also takes over the NUKE business when Cain is taken out. But in the scene where he is dying Robo shows compassion. I think he didn't want help becuse his old family was terrible or they abused him you kinda feel sorry for him R2 turns out be a nightmare for OCP. But the mayor was right about OCP at the beginning of Robocop 3.R2 is underrated.B00009MECJ50A1VAIDD04W5POSA1VAIDD04W5POSBridgette L. Robocop (Peter Weller) is still on the job, but the rest of the police department is on strike because mega-corporation, OCP, who owns the Detroit police department, has dramatically cut their pay. Meanwhile, OCP is in the process of developing another robot-cop, Robocop 2, to replace Robocop.

Considered on its own, "Robocop 2" isn't too bad a movie. Its main problem lies in the fact that the original "Robocop" is just so much more fun. Whereas Ed Niumeier's script was a well-written, tongue-in-cheek satire of law enforcement, which was perfectly complemented by Paul Verhoeven's audacious directorial style, "Robocop 2" takes itself more seriously and is the victim of a more convoluted script that takes too long to get to the point, and uninspired direction. Both "Robocop" and its sequel are incredibly violent movies, but while the violence in "Robocop" was so over-the-top that I can't imagine it upsetting anyone, the violence in "Robocop 2" is nastier and even sadistic at times. One scene, in which Robocop is dismembered by the villains, although not all that bloody (he's a robot, afterall), is particularly unpleasant and made me wonder about the mental state of the writers and the director (oh, that's right, Frank Miller is one of the screenwriters - that would explain it).

Having said all of that, "Robocop 2" is not without merit. Although "Robocop 2" does take a long time to get going, when it does start moving, it gets pretty good. The final half-hour of the film (which is essentially a half-hour action-sequence) is great. Also, Gabriel Dave stands out as adolescent crime-boss Hob; John Glover's cameo is hilarious, and as in the first film, it's fun to see what OCP will do next (you've gotta love those evil corporations). Still, after watching this, I don't exactly feel inspired to keep going and see "Robocop 3" (I'd rather watch another Paul Verhoeven film, thanks), and I'd say there's a very good reason why Paul Verhoeven is still getting work and Irvin Kershner (who directed this film) is not.
Product DescriptionStudio: Lions Gate Home Ent. Release Date: 03/22/2005 Run time: 94 minutes Rating: RAmazon.comWith the surprise success--both critical and commercial--of Robocop, it was inevitable that a sequel would emerge (actually, two sequels). But this follow-up lacked the dyspeptically funny vision of filmmaker Paul Verhoeven and wound up skimming the surface to repeat only the most superficial elements of the original: the big, clunky hero (played by Peter Weller), the ultra-violence (minus a dark sense of humor), and the plethora of action sequences. What plot there is deals with the corporation that runs the cops and its two-pronged attempt to squeeze every dime out of the populace and the city: create a new drug crisis (with an incredibly addictive synthetic drug the corporation manufactures, spread by a charismatic drug lord) and then attack with a bigger robot, one that eliminates Robocop at the same time. Would that they had. --Marshall FineB0001VTPWCRobocop 3B00007L4KORobocop - Dark JusticeB0000CBXZ6RoboCop: Prime Directives - Crash & BurnB0000CBXZ5RoboCop: Prime Directives - HartmannabayyanMilan, Michigan United States02008-05-28Very Disappointing -- The movie plot as a whole was very good - with credible acting - have always enjoyed LDP's acting.
Especially as the sniper in Numb3rs --
I didn't get a sense of the Presidio in the film - just references.
I have never seen a movie when the bed scene is ever necessary to the plot - just added to tittilate the male viewers. Fast forwarded and never missed a thing.

The Bootie trap was not necessary unless he was a psychic and was mentally hit with flash.

Too bad I paid money for the parts I didn't need to see. Don't buy, you will get a better sense of the plot when shown [and cleaned up] on TVB0009S4II840A3978D88N698ZWA3978D88N698ZWMike in the DistrictMike in the DistrictWashington, DC02008-04-01Stan Brooks' RosebudOrson Welles has Citizen Kane and Coppola had the Godfather saga. Now, Stan Brooks has made his masterpiece. Much to Joe in the OC's chagrin, "Murder at the Presidio" has it all: great writing, top-notch action, fantastic production and incredible acting. LDP just nails the lead in this flick, and Jason Priestly shows that he's grown up since his 90210 days. But the real revelation in this film is budding superstar Jason Stewart as "Mafia Suit." His trademark lines "Show me what you got" and "You always say that" are as iconic as anything Arnold ever uttered, and were even immortalized in song by TISM. J Stew was able to parlay that performance into a role as "Bar Patron" in the now-cancelled sitcom "According to Jim." Way to go guys.B0009S4II840A1JJSUWINFXW7JA1JJSUWINFXW7JJose A. M. Nolladelta sixSan Juan, PR Puerto Rico02007-11-24Sequel to The Presidio?Anything related to the former Presidio Military Reservation in San Francisco should be of interest to history buffs.Few places in America have such a historical background. This film however seems like a later day sequel to the film The Presidio, starring Sean Connery. Though acting is not at the same level it is still a good picture that shows the workings and interaction of military police/CID as it deals with crimes comitted by or against soldiers within its jurisdiction.B0009S4II811A2K3K2BXQ30LS8A2K3K2BXQ30LS8tacks31San Francisco, CA, USA42006-06-25Where Was This Made? It Sure Wasn't San FranciscoWatching this movie was okay, although Lou Diamond Phillips sets new heights for cinematic narcisism. Yet I was suspicious from the start when I heard what seemed to be a recorded cable car bell. Sure enough, it appears that this was not shot on location. And I don't want to hear that it couldn't be done. San Francisco has a great Film Commission, and the Presidio Trust is looking for ways to market this new urban National Park. It's sort of like filming Miami Vice in Cedar Rapids - it just doesn't work.B0009S4II821A3DIVTJC2HVNJFA3DIVTJC2HVNJFDAVID SIMONSHell, USA32006-01-30A Soldier's Story it ain't....You'd never know it from the title, but this made-for-TV cheapie revolves around the investigation of a Murder at the Presidio. (No, it's not Bruce Brugmann strangling S.F.'s own Nancy Pelosi... he's saving his homicide efforts for the PG&E cabal.) Due to the military backdrop, you think you're in for a story of a rogue detective who won't back down in the face of massive political corruption and deadly intimidation from the status quo. As it turns out, you're really getting a color-by-numbers murder investigation with just a whiff of the 'Few Good Men' vibe thrown in. On the plus side, you don't have to hear Tom Cruise screeching about wanting "the truth" and having Jack Nicholson counter "You want the truth, start by coming out of the closet, bitch!!"

I'm sorry... Anyway, Lou Diamond Phillips, thinking he might be onto another "Courage Under Fire," does the best he can with what little he's given. He easily outshines his supporting cast -- not saying much, given that Eugene Clark delivers an early candidate for worst performance of the century. (He's yelling... I think he's mad... or maybe angry.) Jason Priestley, tired of strangers peppering him with "Where's Brenda?" taunts, cleverly disguises his identity with the help of a spare chin. There are some women in the cast, none of whom warrant a mention. Oh, and extra fireworks are supplied by Fullerton's own JASON STEWART, thrilling clones nationwide with his nuanced portrayal of 'Mafia Suit.' Sure, he doesn't appear especially 'Mafia,' and he's not technically wearing a 'suit.' But when he's dramatically blasted through the upstairs railings of a hangar-cum-barn and left for dead on the ground, there isn't a dry eye in the Blockbuster.

Did I mention that the killer's identity turns out to be totally implausible, notwithstanding the fact that 'Presidio' is based on a true story? Rent 'Band of Brothers' instead.Product DescriptionBased on the true story of the holy homicide committed on the famed san francisco military base a military criminal investigations officer goes beyond his orders to get to the facts behind what appears to be a robbery-motivated killing. What he finds may well unravel his damaged mental health. In fact, the producers are only interested in ignoring facts in favor of any scenario, no matter how improbable, that absolves Williams as the sole person responsible for the crimes. Since the arrest of Williams, the murders stopped. Why would this sci-fi flick want to address that fact? But those who get a kick out of mediocre acting and conspiracy woo should find it to their taste. B00005KA744232002-07-21Interesting side of the Atlanta Child MurdersThis is an interesting 'true-crime' movie. The infamous Atlanta Child murders of 1979-1981 were suspiciously all pinned on Wayne Williams. This film shows the journey of two reporters from Spin Magazine (not exactly a credible source of criminal investigation) who travel to Atlanta to look deeper into the case. Quite a few conspiracy theories emerge. One theory, based on testimony from the locals, is that the kids were all involved in a child porno ring connected with the city's leaders, and were all killed to keep it from being uncovered. The primary theory that the reporters pursue is the organization of a white-power, ku klux klan group that murdered the children out of racial bias. The controversy occurs when a lead detective throws this out because he thinks it will start a race war if it's true. There are interesting demographics here because Atlanta was a thriving city and had a black mayor.
Drawbacks to the movie are present. Hines and Belushi do a bang-up job of overacting and consistently threaten the story with their poor drama skills. Also, hardly anything is said about Williams and his conviction, so I couldn't really tell if the arguments being made had any value. Nonetheless, an interesting movie with lots of information.DescriptionIn 1981, Atlanta was terrorized by the brutal Atlanta Child Murders. A shocked and panicked nation launched the largest manhunt in U.S. history. A lone man was accused and convicted, and the case was closed. Four years later, though, a magazine editor and his best reporter investigate charges that the original investigation was marred by incompetence, abandoned leads and tainted evidence. It seems only the truth will silence the lingering echo of murder.0809323192The Atlanta Youth Murders and the Politics of Race (Elmer H Johnson & Carol Holmes Johnson Series in Criminology)B0007LPS7WSally Hemings: An American ScandalB001CUB5OMA&E -- American Justice Atlanta Child Murders, TheB000A2XAQ4Strapped0758220529No Place Safe163390General163379Drama404276Genres130DVD139452Video163395True Story291236By Theme163379Drama404276Genres130DVD139452Video722754011General AAS291513Television163379Drama404276Genres130DVD139452Video923878General512030Mystery & Suspense404276Genres130DVD139452Video292287Mystery512030Mystery & Suspense404276Genres130DVD139452Video163411Suspense512030Mystery & Suspense404276Genres130DVD139452Video415914General163450Television404276Genres130DVD139452Video1081770114-for-3 Drama1081720114-for-3 DVD251273011Custom Stores44261011Specialty Stores130DVD139452Video412580Belushi, James411316( B )404278Actors & Actresses251273011Custom Stores44261011Specialty Stores130DVD139452Video417860Clark, Eugene A416120( C )404278Actors & Actresses251273011Custom Stores44261011Specialty Stores130DVD139452Video417862Clark, Eugene C416120( C )404278Actors & Actresses251273011Custom Stores44261011Specialty Stores130DVD139452Video421458Duke, Bill419544( D )404278Actors & Actresses251273011Custom Stores44261011Specialty Stores130DVD139452Video428054Hines, Gregory426368( H )404278Actors & Actresses251273011Custom Stores44261011Specialty Stores130DVD139452Video436082McCann, Sean434574( M )404278Actors & Actresses251273011Custom Stores44261011Specialty Stores130DVD139452Video443932Robinson, Karen442578( R )404278Actors & Actresses251273011Custom Stores44261011Specialty Stores130DVD139452Video451322Wallace, Jack451116( W )404278Actors & Actresses251273011Custom Stores44261011Specialty Stores130DVD139452Video452068Welsh, Kenneth451116( W )404278Actors & Actresses251273011Custom Stores44261011Specialty Stores130DVD139452Video579520( E )579510Titles251273011Custom Stores44261011Specialty Stores130DVD139452Video387546011DVD387545011Format (binding)386709011Refinements130DVD139452Video405384011Unrated405383011MPAA Rating (feature_browse-bin)386709011Refinements130DVD139452Video405391011US & CA DVDs: Region 1405390011Region (feature_two_browse-bin)386709011Refinements130DVD139452Video5620920112000 & Newer562084011Decade (feature_three_browse-bin)386709011Refinements130DVD139452Video617866011English598208011Original Language (theme_browse-bin)386709011Refinements130DVD139452Video603123011Closed Caption603112011Special Editions (feature_four_browse-bin)386709011Refinements130DVD139452Video671505011Standard Edition603112011Special Editions (feature_four_browse-bin)386709011Refinements130DVD139452Video643791011Grade Level (feature_five_browse-bin)643792011Preschool643793011Kindergarten643794011Elementary School643800011Middle & High School643808011College643809011Post-Graduate386709011Refinements130DVD139452Video671506011Audio Type (feature_six_browse-bin)671507011Digital Sound671508011Dolby671509011Surround Sound386709011Refinements130DVD139452VideoR2Y4LVTZ6E46W7URBAN & ESPIONAGE CINEMAB000B2YR7Ohttp://www.amazon.com/Land-Dead-John-Leguizamo/dp/B000B2YR7O%3FSubscriptionId%3D1DWXK7HJTP76664KT902%26tag%3Dws%26linkCode%3Dxm2%26camp%3D2025%26creative%3D165953%26creativeASIN%3DB000B2YR7O76094http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/51MAJKS32CL._SL75_.jpg7553http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/51MAJKS32CL._SL160_.jpg160112http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/51MAJKS32CL.jpg500351http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/51MAJKS32CL._SL30_.jpg3021http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/51MAJKS32CL._SL75_.jpg7553http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/51MAJKS32CL._SL160_.jpg160112http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/51MAJKS32CL.jpg500351John LeguizamoAsia ArgentoSimon BakerDennis HopperRobert Joy1.33:1UnratedDVDUNI DIST CORP. Ryan FairbanksCleveland, Ohio12009-06-11Land of the brain deadI can still remember how excited I was when I first heard Land of the Dead was coming out. George Romero, the man who created the greatest zombie trilogy of all time was about to unleash a new classic for the 00's that would parallel his original "Dead" movies and would show modern horror audiences how it's done. It didn't quite turn out that way.

The movie picks up where it should, the living dead epidemic has been raging on for years and years and a small colony of survivors are living in a slum surrounded by protective fences. In the middle of this slum, however, lies Fiddler's Green, which is a bountiful sanctuary for the wealthy while the poor are reduced to living in the remains of the outlying city. Every night a group from the slum must venture out and collect food and supplies for their fellow poor all while avoiding the zombies. To their surprise, the living dead have started to evolve. They have become more human like, able to use weapons and even use strategies to destroy their living opponents. Eventually they start to get a little too wise and execute a full scale attack on the city.

If you look at Land of the Dead chronologically, you'll notice a lot of things here that don't make any sense. Supposing that the zombie epidemic started back in the 60's with "Night", how do the survivors go out every night and collect goods such as Pringles potato chips? Is there still a Pringles factory operating somewhere 40 years into a zombie apocalypse? Fiddler's Green is like a modern day, state of the art consumerist wonder land, so where did all this stuff come from, and where does it keep coming from after it has run out? There's also a scene with club music playing, did someone find time to record music during the zombie invasion? How and why is currency still being used? You'll find countless things like this that will either confuse you or annoy you with their stupidity.

Perhaps the biggest thing that spoils this movie was that it has way too much comic relief. You can't have Dennis Hopper picking his nose in one scene, and then have a guy getting split in two in the next scene and expect it to be as effective as you intended it to be. If the movie had been aiming to be campy, then maybe this type of thing would have worked, but like Romero's other zombie flicks, Land of the Dead takes itself completely seriously. It just ends up being cheesy, and not the good kind. This is the kind of cheesy that makes you unsure of whether you should be more embarrassed for those involved in the movie, or for yourself for watching it.

Land of the Dead is a super gory zombie flick, and that's about it. There's most likely some half-hearted commentary buried deeply, and I mean deeply in there, but you would be hard pressed to find it. Needless to say it doesn't even come close to being in the same league as the original trilogy, but the shocking part is that this is still better than the vast majority of zombie movies that are out there.B000B2YR7O40A2LEKYFDXACKQUA2LEKYFDXACKQUT. BucklandSan Diego, CA USA02009-06-04Gore festI've always heard of George A. Romero and his zombie works, but never saw one before. From what I've heard, he does an amazing job in this genre, and this title holds true to that.

The plot premise was cliched, but at the same time unique (zombie holocaust with few humans remaining, but the zombies are getting smarter).

But the gore was what really got me. UNBELIEVEABLE. This movie pacts more gore than both of the "Hostel" movies combined... and I loved it.

Not necessarily scary, but if you love graphic violence, then this is definately one to own. B000B2YR7O40A1NSA8C6RV4K4NA1NSA8C6RV4K4NCesar J. vazquezmiami fl. usa02009-05-22a big step down

Romero returns to unleash his new zombie masterpiece! Starring Simon Baker, Dennis Hopper and John Leguizamo, Romero’s latest undead epic finds humanity’s last remnants battling to survive the unspeakable truth: The ravenous zombie hordes besieging their fortified city…are evolving!Amazon.comBolstered by the success of 28 Days Later, Shaun of the Dead, the Resident Evil movies and the hit remake of his own Dawn of the Dead, George A. Romero returns to the horror subgenre he invented with Land of the Dead. The fourth installment in Romero's zombie cycle (and the first since 1985's Day of the Dead) presents a logical progression of events since 1968's horror classic Night of the Living Dead: Zombies (also known as "stenches" for their rotting odor) are the dominant population, and they've begun to show signs of undead intelligence and gathering power. The wealthiest survivors live comfortably in a luxury high-rise within a barricaded safe zone, ignoring the horrors of the outside world while armed scavengers stage raids in the zombie-zone to gather much-needed food and supplies. Simon Baker and John Leguizamo play mercenaries-for-hire; Dennis Hopper is their nefarious boss; and horror favorite Asia Argento (daughter of Suspiria<?i> director Dario Argento) plays a former hooker recruited into Baker's scavenger squad. While none of this seems particularly fresh or inspired, Land of the Dead benefits from hints of the social satire that made Romero's earlier zombie films so memorable. Not so much funny as gruesomely peculiar, Romero's plot isn't as inventive as it could've been, but as a big-scale B-movie, Land of the Dead delivers a handful of shocks and horror-celebrity cameos (including gore-masters Tom Savini and Greg Nicotero) that should keep horror buffs happy until the next zombie opus comes along. --Jeff ShannonB0002ABURADawn of the Dead (Widescreen Unrated Director's Cut)B00008G8L9Day of the Dead (Divimax Special Edition)630469797XDawn of the Dead - The Original Director's Cut (Collector's Edition)0783227434Army of DarknessB0013D8LA4George A.
First off, if you hated season one of "Tropical Heat" a/k/a Sweating Bullets" don't completely write off the show. It was one of those rare times a show actually got better in its second and third seasons. Yet even the lame first season included the catchy reggae theme song "Anyway the Wind Blows" and the two stars (Rob Stewart and Carolyn Dunn) playing off each others as only total opposites can. Steward plays maverick ex-DEA agent Nick Slaughter who moves to one of the Florida Keys and starts a detective agency. Dunn plays his buttoned-down travel agent business partner Sylvie Gerard.

It is an uneasy partnership. Swarthy Nick is laid back, likes to party, and is not particularly keen on working. Sylvie is a burn-don't tan redhead, a brittle uptight computer nerd who disapproves of Nick's lifestyle. When Nick is busy chasing anything in skirts, Sylvie keeps her focus on agency cash flow. Of course Dunn is far hotter than any of the women Nick is constantly dogging so there is an undercurrent of frustrated attraction between the two; hidden beneath their constant put-downs.

The discerning viewer will quickly spot certain production design issues. The series was filmed in Israel, not on location in the Florida Keys and they just didn't have enough of a budget to effectively disguise a vaguely foreign feeling. But once you know this it is possible to suspend disbelief and just concentrate on the characters.

Even stranger than the vaguely off-kilter setting are Season One's choice of guest actresses. Both "Tropical Heat" and its counterpart "Silk Stalkings" targeted the male demographic. "Silk Stalkings" was perceptive enough to cast really hot young actresses for each episode, with more concern about their exploitation potential than their acting ability. But for some strange reason "Tropical Heat" filled these roles with the most average looking collection of women you are likely to find this side of your local DVM line.

Your basic acting-for-the-camera class has three tiers of would-be actress. The hot first tier: actresses who look good enough that their acting skills are a bonus, not a necessity. The bottom tier: dogs, pigs, and elephants who can find work in character roles if they look strange enough. The middle tier: girls who need extraordinary acting skills because they look so ordinary, and even those should give serious thought to cooking school. For its first season "Tropical Heat's" hired exclusively from the middle tier (plus a few of their mothers); and disqualified those who received "C" or better grades. And they wonder why these things are not more popular.

Season one writing is also pretty weak although the Nick-Sylvie exchanges are usually entertaining and appear to have been written by someone who knew what they were doing; apparently the rest of the script writing fell to the second team.

The Season One DVD (which contains most of the Season Two episodes as well) is cheap in both cost and quality. It is viewable but there is no supplemental material and navigation is extremely basic.
