Produced at the same time as classic Trek, by the same studio and overseen by some of the same production and casting people, many familiar Trek guest stars and two Trek regulars pop up in these 24 episodes. I hesitate to be more specific lest I ruin the wonderful surprises that await you. Columbo fans will also gain considerable insight from the audio commentary that accompanies the pilot, where the conversation seems to be more about the rumpled detective in the trenchcoat than the combustable Mannix. This release is VERY highly recommended!B0014FAIVG50AWTCN74KCVQEQAWTCN74KCVQEQRonald R. Allen Jr.chizotzColumbia, MO United States02008-11-24Excellent Series, Excellent DVDThe only things I would have changed about this DVD set are, (1) the audio introduction by Mike Connors are a great thing, but when playing the shows I had wished there was an option to turn them off because they play before the start of every episode (unless you're using the "play all" feature). I haven't seen these episodes in a long time, so they were all like new to me... I didn't want anything spoiled for me before the episode began. However, they are easily skipped, you just have to be ready on the remote button to start the episode from the intro screen. (2) I would've liked to have had even more special feature material, such as interviews and "making of" stuff. I know a lot of folks don't appreciate that sort of thing, but I'm one that eats it up.

But these are rather nit-picky points. The DVD set is great, and the series is even better than I remembered it. I've already ordered Season 2.

B0014FAIVG50A4K3AS4TMIL9HA4K3AS4TMIL9HAberserkerLos Angeles02008-11-24Man I miss 1970If you were young in the late 60's and early 70's there is nothing I can tell you about Mannix that you do not already know. The series was one of the most popular detective series of all times, appearing for seven seasons and Mike Connors earned a repuation as a fine actor. Thus I was surprised to find that this first season left a lot to be desired, in terms of quality. All sucessful series have to work out a lot of kinks in their first episodes, but this first season of "Mannix" had quite a few poor episodes. I think this was due to the unsuccessful tie-in with the "INTERTECT" angle, a high-tech crime-solving corporation headed by an egg-head, played by Joe Campanella. Over and over we see his character peeking into Mannix's office using a closed-circuit television system (I think that may be illegal, how many workers would want their bosses spying on them?). Campanella always has a bemused, exasperated look as if thinking to himself "what am I going to do with this guy...he is so unorthodox, yet I can't get by without him!". After the first several dozen times we see this, it gets tiresome. Also, part of the charm of private detective stories is the sleuthing the PI's do in order to come up with clues. Here it seems INTERTECT and its army of egg-head intellectuals and their computers seem to be able to spew out mountains of information about every person in the United States, if not the world, making Mannix's job too easy.
In the early shows we see poor acting on the part of numerous supporting characters and an episode where Mannix's foot is injured, yet manages to gimp aroudn for miles and miles around a rural town without a car. He is even chased by tractors and manages to survive.
A couple of interesting things we see in these early episodes is a cameo appearance by producer Bruce Geller playing a movie director, who might have been very talented as a creative person, but certainly was no actor. We also have a scene where Mannix gets to speak Armenian.
I must admit that as the season wore on the quality did improve and part of the reason was that we saw less of INTERTECT and Joe Campanella stopped showing up miraculously when Mannix was in deep trouble. The dialogue also improved and became more Raymond Chanlerish with interesting quips commenting on life, the world and human nature.
Maybe it would be worthwhile for someone who is not sure whether they want to see this series to start with the second season, where he becomes a more convention PI with his own office and secretary.DescriptionFrom the dynamic opening credits to the closing shootout, Mannix crackles with excitement, and is finally available on DVD for the first time ever! Cool, no-nonsense private detective Joe Mannix (Mike Connors) is a tough-talking loner within the large detective agency Intertect. He has street smarts and class, but he constantly fights with his boss, Lou Wickersham (Joseph Campanella), over how to conduct their investigations. Lou relies on the company's computers, but Mannix has to go with his gut. And that's just what he does every time! One of the most popular crime shows ever, this long-running series was developed by executive producer Bruce Geller (Mission: Impossible), and features all 24 Season One episodes on 6 discs, including the rarely-seen series pilot. Brace yourself for unbeatable action — Mannix is back!Amazon.comOne of the most fondly remembered and action-packed detective series of the late '60s and early '70s, Mannix was the brainchild creators Richard Levinson and William Link (Columbo, Murder: She Wrote) and executive producer Bruce Geller (Mission: Impossible). Mike Connors won an Emmy as the title character, a tough, streetwise private eye whose hands-on approach to cases raised the hackles of his employers, the scientific-minded Intertect, and his no-nonsense boss Lou Wickersham (Joseph Campanella). Episodes generally saw Mannix taking his share of licks, either from or in the service of that week's guest star (celebs on display in this debut season include Tom Skerritt, Karen Black, Julie Adams, William Windom, and Neil Diamond in Episode 4, "The Many Deaths of Saint Christopher"). The on-screen violence, which earned the show its devoted audience as well as critical outcry, is fairly tame by today's standards, though it preserves the show's energy and drive; the chemistry between Connors and Campanella and especially Emmy winner Gail Fisher as secretary Peggy Fair (one of the first African-American characters to appear as a regular on a television series) also keep the episodes moving at a crisp pace. Modern audiences used to more high-tech crime shows like Num3ers and the CSI franchises may find Mannix's methods sort of quaint, but those who favor classic TV fare or who remember it from its lengthy network and syndicated runs will enjoy tagging along with Joe Mannix all over again.
All 24 episodes of the 1967-1968 debut season are featured on this six-disc set, including the 1967 pilot "The Name is Mannix." Connors himself is all over the DVD--not only is he interviewed with Campanella in a loose but informative featurette about their time together on the show (Wickersham was phased out by its second season in order to let Mannix work for himself), but he provides commentary on several episodes and audio introductions for just about every supplement. These include a promo clip for the show in a CBS TV special announcing the fall 1967 lineup; an interview with Connors on a 1969 episode of The Mike Douglas Show; a Paramount sales reel for prospective syndication broadcasters (with voice-over by the legendary Ernie Anderson); and a clip from a 1997 episode of Diagnosis: Murder in which Connors reprised Mannix to investigate a unsolved murder that was introduced in a '70s-era episode of that series. It's an impressive package, and should give Mannix devotees much to look forward to in regard to upcoming DVDs. --Paul GaitaB001FT4PEWMannix: The Second SeasonB001675ZJMCannon: Season One, Vol. 1B0014FAIXEHawaii Five-O - It isn't. By far, it is a smorgasborg of mystery/detective shows --many I never saw in reruns before. One nice surprise was DECOY with Beverly Garland. She's an intelligent undercover policewoman in New York. Great writting, excellent acting. Black/white, pre-dates Angie Dickinson's show. Maybe that's way it didn't have a long run. For this alone, this collection was tops. However, there is so much more. Dragnet from about 1952-on. Several shows have embedded cigarrette commercials. Some shows are corny oldies. But considering what is on television now--these are refreshing. "I'm THE LAW" was like that, corny but good. A couple of Mannix episodes. And others we have yet to see. But just from the first few disks, I had to share that this is an EXCELLENT BUY. This is the only resource for a Boris Karloff detective character who worked for Scotland Yard, Col. Marsh--I think. Terrific. I tried to locate more, was done in England, but have seen no success yet. It's detective Boris Karloff, shows a whimsical side of him, not frequently captured on film.
The DVDs are recorded on both sides, that to me is a minus. It tends to make the life of a DVD shorter if you don't take care. But the capture footage was enhanced, editted and carefully produced in digital. A few of the really old shows needed some sound enhancements. Mill Creek truly took the pains and efforts. Thank God for that. This is good product. Mom has been sitting down with a DVD a day. She's in her seventies and is really coming along fine, learning how to work the DVD player all by herself--the proper incentive in hand. For the money, the collection, and the high degree of digitizing these old shows---EXCELLENT. I hope to find more on Boris Karloff the Detective, and even more on DECOY with Beverly Garland. It is amazing after all these decades, how some human situations truly have not changed. Merry Christmas, all.B000QQ85HI55A2R5SM2C87PDOQA2R5SM2C87PDOQGothCroneUSA52008-10-14Like travelling back in time.....I absolutely love this set! After reading some of the warnings about the video/audio quality I was holding my breath as I popped in the first disc . . but I found it to be exactly what you'd reasonably expect from vintage 1950s-1970s TV . . it was like stepping back in time and then some . . I'm not quite old enough to remember some of the 1950s stuff first run, but I remember watching a lot of this stuff in reruns and even first run with shows like Mannix. The series "Checkmate" was a great "find" on this set -- I had never heard of it before, but my husband, who is a few years old than me, said, 'so I bet it doesn't have any Checkmate episodes does it...' -- I checked, and sure enough there are two. And they're really good. My favorites so far I think....so much so I am now considering purchasing the two DVDs that have the best of Season 1 and Season 2 of that series.

But back to the specifics about this collection. What a DEAL ... to get this many golden old detective shows for less than $20.00 . . it's just a bargain no matter how you look at it. Loving the series 'Decoy' too with Beverly Garland. . . who knew?!

A few too many "Dragnets" for my liking, but hey -- they're okay too in a pinch.

Definitely would recommend this set. Perfectly watchable and listenable - no worse than when we watched them first run on our old TV sets back in the 60s.

Product DescriptionSynopsis: Available for the first time, 150 complete episodes from 33 exciting television series of the 1950's to the 1970's. PizziSan Mateo, CA United States02008-12-29One of Joan Crawford's best roles....Not many fans of Joan Crawford are familiar with this film, but they should be. Attractive San Francisco location shooting and a superb supporting cast featuring Jack Palance, Mike (`Touch") Conners, and Gloria Grahame, raise the bar of this exciting, nail biter noir classic, despite a rather simple and familiar plot. What's fascinating about the film is how director David Miller takes a familiar plot and presents the drama within it in a most entertaining and absorbing fashion. Crawford plays a successful San Francisco heiress/playwright, Myra Hudson, who falls for Lester Blaine (Palance), an actor who unsuccessfully auditioned for one of her plays. They eventually meet on a train back to San Francisco and after a whirlwind courtship, the two eventually get married, but after a few months into the marriage, Myra later catches on that Lester and his old flame, Irene (Grahame), intend to kill her so he can inherit her fortune.

Note Director David Miller's brilliant cinematography--how he effectively telegraphs the use of ordinary objects--an initialed handkerchief, a key, a Dictaphone machine (even a small clockwork mechanical dog!), and his successful use of dissolves, light and shadow, and mise-en-scene to convey the terror and fear that not only registers on Crawford's expressive face within the frame, but is carried thru an entire scene. In this film, Crawford perhaps most successfully exhibits the strong, yet vulnerable characters she made a long career out of playing. Although the intended victim of a nefarious plot to take her life and her fortune, we see how Crawford's Myra Hudson consciously and methodically intends to turn the tables on her unfaithful paramour and his lover just as if she writing a plot synopsis outline for one of her plays.

This was Palance's first "starring" role after his smallish role in the classic "Panic in the Streets" with Richard Widmark. He admirably conveys both the aura of vulnerability and deceit necessary to charm Crawford's character into believing he is her doting, loving husband. While this is not in the same league as, say, "Mildred Pierce," it should be considered as one of Crawford's better films and, as it stands, it is a superlative achievement in film noir.

B00000IPHP51AWTCA4XTS3EQ2AWTCA4XTS3EQ2J. RobbinsGolden BoyOrlando, FL12008-07-21Quit your whining, this DVD rocks!Alright, there are no special features. Alright, so there aren't even any subtitles. And there are a couple of seconds where the picture had grain- ok, I give. But overall, this film is excellently presented. I don't have any complaints about the sound or the picture- in fact, I thought it was remarkably clear considering that it hasn't been preserved as well as a lot of other pictures. Trust me, the plot more than makes up for any minor annoyances.

In an Oscar nominated performance, Joan Crawford plays successful playwright Myra Hudson. When she falls in love with a handsome actor named Lester (played by Jack Palance, nominated for Best Supporting Actor) everything seems perfect. But when she discovers her husband's plot to murder her, she designs a plan to reverse the gun.

This movie is great, and if you're not one of those people who whine when they don't get all the bells and whistles, you'll love it too.B00000IPHP50AN4F574H070YYAN4F574H070YYpeter panmozartviña del mar chile12008-05-26sudden feari think sudden fear is a very good example of the so called films noirs and also joan crawfords performace is very convincing as the frightned woman who tries to save her life as well as she canB00000IPHP14A38IB4S52DQ7EIA38IB4S52DQ7EIchiboyChicago52008-03-23Great Movie But Awful Sound Quality by KINOThis is one of those great film noir classics and Crawford gives one of her great performances. "Sudden Fear" is one of the top 5 best Joan Crawford films ever as well as one of the best suspense films Hollywood has ever made. The story is strong as Crawford plays a woman who's husband is plotting to kill her. Great acting, writing, and the direction of David Miller is superb. Miller also directed Crawford in 1957's "Story of Esther Costello". The picture was one of Joan's favorites and resurrected her career after many flops. The picture would go on to win 4 Academy Award nominations including one for Best Actress for Crawford, her 3rd. Even her daughter Christina liked it. Sit back and enjoy a wonderful Crawford film. However the DVD transfer, as many have said, isn't up to par. Don't expect perfect digital quality and extra features. Buy the film because it is a great movie and the fact that it's on DVD will enable us to have it for many years. Truely a must have for any Crawford fan and fans of film noir!DescriptionJoan Crawford turns in one of the most emotionally charged performances of her career as a playwright who must use her plotting skills to save her own life, in this beautifully crafted film noir thriller. Nominated for four Academy Awards, "Sudden Fear" is an unbeatable combination of lush melodrama and drop-dead suspense.Amazon.comSudden Fear is one of those noir gems about a love-hate relationship between a husband and wife that's doomed from the very beginning. Jack Palance plays an ambitious actor rebuffed by playwright and heiress Joan Crawford. He later romances and marries her before falling under the dark spell of ex-girlfriend Gloria Grahame. When Palance and Grahame plot to get her fortune, the evil scheme backfires with ironically twisted results. Palance has no idea how much his wife truly loves him, and she has no idea how sinister he truly is. It's a fascinating if contrived film, with wonderful nuances and sensitive performances by the three leads. --Bill DesowitzB00005V4XDStrait-JacketB00005RDRPQueen BeeB0010KHOSKDaisy Kenyon (Fox Film Noir)B000XNZ7NOThe Joan Crawford Collection, Vol. 2 (A Woman's Face / Flamingo Road / Sadie McKee / Strange Cargo / Torch Song)B0008ENICAPossessed163390General163379Drama404276Genres130DVD139452Video524228Classics163379Drama404276Genres130DVD139452Video923878General512030Mystery & Suspense404276Genres130DVD139452Video898096Classics512030Mystery & Suspense404276Genres130DVD139452Video292287Mystery512030Mystery & Suspense404276Genres130DVD139452Video163411Suspense512030Mystery & Suspense404276Genres130DVD139452Video412658Bennett, Bruce411316( B )404278Actors & Actresses251273011Custom Stores44261011Specialty Stores130DVD139452Video418446Connors, Mike416120( C )404278Actors & Actresses251273011Custom Stores44261011Specialty Stores130DVD139452Video419070Crawford, Joan416120( C )404278Actors & Actresses251273011Custom Stores44261011Specialty Stores130DVD139452Video425638Grahame, Gloria424172( G )404278Actors & Actresses251273011Custom Stores44261011Specialty Stores130DVD139452Video428350Holmes, Taylor426368( H )404278Actors & Actresses251273011Custom Stores44261011Specialty Stores130DVD139452Video429030Huston, Virginia426368( H )404278Actors & Actresses251273011Custom Stores44261011Specialty Stores130DVD139452Video429420Jackson, Selmer429340( J )404278Actors & Actresses251273011Custom Stores44261011Specialty Stores130DVD139452Video440446Palance, Jack440340( P )404278Actors & Actresses251273011Custom Stores44261011Specialty Stores130DVD139452Video447502Space, Arthur444858( S )404278Actors & Actresses251273011Custom Stores44261011Specialty Stores130DVD139452Video459982Miller, David459370( M )403502Directors251273011Custom Stores44261011Specialty Stores130DVD139452Video579548( S )579510Titles251273011Custom Stores44261011Specialty Stores130DVD139452Video387546011DVD387545011Format (binding)386709011Refinements130DVD139452Video405384011Unrated405383011MPAA Rating (feature_browse-bin)386709011Refinements130DVD139452Video405392011DVDs Playable in any Region405390011Region (feature_two_browse-bin)386709011Refinements130DVD139452Video5620870111950 - 1959562084011Decade (feature_three_browse-bin)386709011Refinements130DVD139452Video617866011English598208011Original Language (theme_browse-bin)386709011Refinements130DVD139452Video671505011Standard Edition603112011Special Editions (feature_four_browse-bin)386709011Refinements130DVD139452Video643791011Grade Level (feature_five_browse-bin)643792011Preschool643793011Kindergarten643794011Elementary School643800011Middle & High School643808011College643809011Post-Graduate386709011Refinements130DVD139452Video671506011Audio Type (feature_six_browse-bin)671507011Digital Sound671508011Dolby671509011Surround Sound386709011Refinements130DVD139452VideoRAU94W4JJXXD7Bette and Joan: A few of their most memorable filmsR2MKH4N2R2NRO3If you want to discover Gloria Grahame (1923 - 1981 )R204YI5O8ISGKSAcademy awards nominees (actresses) (girls who lost) 1941 - 1953R1ILCDSJU5S06K"Get Out Before I Kill You!": The Best of Joan CrawfordR24913N4YRYZZY"Joan Crawford's Best DVDs and Videos!R3NKM60IYIWWDJJOAN CRAWFORD: DECADES OF A DIVAR1BOBU2GKSML3UJoan CrawfordR2OTYT78757MZMSome Classy Suspense Movies....(no, not ALL Hitchcock!!!)ROOBYXWCZ4SVVShearer, Crawford, & Davis: Hollywood's Leading LadiesR2A6W2YPRNKG7JDueling Divas - Bette! I grew up watching westerns in the 1950s and somehow had never seen this one, let alone heard of it. Saw it a short time back on Encore westerns, and if you stay with the beginning that seems to go nowhere, part way through the movie it does begin to go somewhere. Whether that 'somewhere' will be to your taste is a valid question.

Few reviews mention the group of 5 men traveling through Comanche Indian country with subsequent run in with at least one perimeter Comanche scout group. Though this is a low budget movie, definitely B class or less, there are few backlot or stage scenes, with most of the movie shot out-of-doors. That allows some fresh reality to the movie, whether by design or accident I do not know. I recognize the name 'Roger Corman' but have no feelings for the man one way or another, but the film he put together here is of some significance in that being a watcher of untold westerns, I have seen few if any similar to this one. And though I have the DVD of The Dirty Dozen on hand, do not see much similarity between the two movies.

If you stay with this movie you will be rewarded with a low budget, 1950s style B movie with few known stars and an uncertain plot of uncertain ending. But by movie's ending the general viewer will no doubt allow a 2 or 3 star rating to the film. And I am somewhat surprised no one mentions the small twist ending this film offers in John Lund's role.

While John Lund is not my idea of a western movie actor he does acquit himself very well here; and for my taste, Dorothy Malone is always worth watching. The 'Candy brothers' are both a few sandwiches shy of a picnic but that only lends zany, knife wielding fun to the movie, and Mike Connors, though billed in the credits as 'Touch' Connors, has a few ragged edges to his acting that had improved by the time of Mannix. So if you have nothing better to watch, try watching this one, not a bad movie but for me nothing above a 3 star one, and that may be stretching it just a wee bit.

Semper Fi.B00008PC1A31A1JJSUWINFXW7JA1JJSUWINFXW7JJose A. It's a bit like a young DIRTY DOZEN made on the cheap and played in chaps. Cheap is the word for it, too. Reports have it that this tale of an ornery fistful of sociopaths was shot in 8 days and came in on a budget of $60,000.
A good hunk of that budget must have gone to the movie's star John Lund, who gave the film a somewhat familiar name to put over the title and... well, that's about it. The handsome, blonde Lund wasn't known for projecting much personality during his film career.
Their mission, to intercept a Union-army guarded stagecoach carrying the traitor, takes them through Indian country to a deserted town where the stage is scheduled to change horses. The only folk left in the town are a feeble old sot and his beautiful, perfectly coifed niece, played by Dorothy Malone. The appearance of Ms. Malone provides a catalyst for a new round of ground dynamics.
Corman's popularity eludes me. I admire him for his independent success, but his movies seem rushed and cheap, and FIVE GUNS WEST is no exception. For Roger Corman and die-hard Western fans only.
B00008PC1A53AKFHTWR6H325OAKFHTWR6H325Orandall w. pretzercorpus christi, texas United States42003-12-01Pre-Dirty DozenThis western, directing debut of Roger Corman, pre-dates the Dirty Dozen by about 22 years and also Roger Cormans own 1964 film, The Secret Invasion. A group of criminals are pardoned and hired by the Confederate Government to intercept a Union Cargo Wagon and during the trip, the criminals try to form alliances with each other and what follows is a betrayel and a neat plot twist at the end. This is film is not very stylish or interesting in terms of its technical aspects. It is told in a straight-forward and unflinching manner. It is surprising also to find very little violence or action in this first Western by Corman. The plot, however, is what makes it interesting and worth watching. The opening scene introduces the five criminals and their crimes are listed as they are standing side by side. The Dirty Dozen starts off in exactly the same way and it may have lifted that scene from Five Guns West. The twist at the end could have pre-dated The Wild Geese and countless other movies. The climax proves that nothing is as it seems. Overall, it is a pretty tame exercise coming from Roger Corman. There is not an ounce of sex or excessive violence or even style but Roger Corman was not known for the quality of his films or even style but efficiency and an ability to mass produce low budget films for less than 2 dollars and no more than maybe 5,000 dollars. He also is known for starting the careers of such famed actors as Jack Nicholson, Robert De Niro and Francis Ford Coppola. Even though this film is not what you would typically expect from Corman, it is well-worth seeing if anything just for the fact that the plot itself and premise seems to have been lifted by The Dirty Dozen 22 years later.DescriptionMarking the directorial debut of Roger Corman (The Pit and the Pendulum, A Bucket of Blood), Five Guns West sets the standard for gritty shoot-and-run western adventure! John Lund, Dorothy Malone and Touch Connors star in R. Wright Campbell's rugged tale of five outlaws whose next stop is the gallowsunless they take on a dangerous mission! Given the choice of death or deadly mission, five convicts agree to hijack a stagecoach carrying a traitor and $30,000 in gold. Braving hostile Comanches, deceit and a rivalry brought on by the presence of a beautiful, cunning woman (Malone), the men deftly set up their ambush. But when their uneasy alliance dissolves, theonly thing any of the men can trust is his six-shooter!B00008PX7CThe Ride BackB0007O394SMore Dead Than AliveB00008PX7GTerror in a Texas TownB0007O390WEscort WestB000OT6V14Fury at Furnace Creek163306General163296Action & Adventure404276Genres130DVD139452Video463878Espionage163296Action & Adventure404276Genres130DVD139452Video290935Adventure163414Kids & Family404276Genres130DVD139452Video300399Drama163414Kids & Family404276Genres130DVD139452Video291008General163312Westerns404276Genres130DVD139452Video291010Action & Adventure163312Westerns404276Genres130DVD139452Video413104Birch, Paul411316( B )404278Actors & Actresses251273011Custom Stores44261011Specialty Stores130DVD139452Video418446Connors, Mike416120( C )404278Actors & Actresses251273011Custom Stores44261011Specialty Stores130DVD139452Video427436Haze, Jonathan426368( H )404278Actors & Actresses251273011Custom Stores44261011Specialty Stores130DVD139452Video429200Ingram, Jack429104( I )404278Actors & Actresses251273011Custom Stores44261011Specialty Stores130DVD139452Video434364Lund, John432148( L )404278Actors & Actresses251273011Custom Stores44261011Specialty Stores130DVD139452Video435022Malone, Dorothy434574( M )404278Actors & Actresses251273011Custom Stores44261011Specialty Stores130DVD139452Video455822Corman, Roger455278( C )403502Directors251273011Custom Stores44261011Specialty Stores130DVD139452Video595276All MGM Titles468384MGM Home Entertainment468374Studio Specials251273011Custom Stores44261011Specialty Stores130DVD139452Video579522( F )579510Titles251273011Custom Stores44261011Specialty Stores130DVD139452Video387546011DVD387545011Format (binding)386709011Refinements130DVD139452Video390120011Full Screen390118011Picture Format (format)386709011Refinements130DVD139452Video405384011Unrated405383011MPAA Rating (feature_browse-bin)386709011Refinements130DVD139452Video405391011US & CA DVDs: Region 1405390011Region (feature_two_browse-bin)386709011Refinements130DVD139452Video5620870111950 - 1959562084011Decade (feature_three_browse-bin)386709011Refinements130DVD139452Video617866011English598208011Original Language (theme_browse-bin)386709011Refinements130DVD139452Video671505011Standard Edition603112011Special Editions (feature_four_browse-bin)386709011Refinements130DVD139452Video643791011Grade Level (feature_five_browse-bin)643792011Preschool643793011Kindergarten643794011Elementary School643800011Middle & High School643808011College643809011Post-Graduate386709011Refinements130DVD139452Video671506011Audio Type (feature_six_browse-bin)671507011Digital Sound671508011Dolby671509011Surround Sound386709011Refinements130DVD139452VideoR2EA5BZXL1VQCNIf you want to discover Dorothy Malone (1925 - )R1QRCR6TPX3TDAGuns of HollywoodR1GX3QVEAQ90TRRoger Corman Schlock: Laughably Bad Movies, Best of the Worst1Q9PAGWVEM6VRound Up #1B000GIXED6http://www.amazon.com/Collection-Godzilla-Diamonds-Teen-Age-Strangler/dp/B000GIXED6%3FSubscriptionId%3D1DWXK7HJTP76664KT902%26tag%3Dws%26linkCode%3Dxm2%26camp%3D2025%26creative%3D165953%26creativeASIN%3DB000GIXED627530http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/5159N21624L._SL75_.jpg7556http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/5159N21624L._SL160_.jpg160120http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/5159N21624L.jpg500375http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/5159N21624L._SL30_.jpg3022http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/5159N21624L._SL75_.jpg7556http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/5159N21624L._SL160_.jpg160120http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/5159N21624L.jpg500375Katsuhiko SasakiHiroyuki KawaseJoel HodgsonMichael J. SteigmanMovie fan from silents to nowUSA02008-12-15The best set in my opinion and its out of print foreverVolume 10 if you can afford it is to me the best volume. 2 Mike & 2 Joel shows plus a great mix of movies
Swamp Diamonds - Show 503 is a decent episode, this is one that you should be in the mood to sit back and watch otherwise it might drag. Skits & everything are all good.
Teenage Strangler - Show 515 - Mike's 2nd movie and he sings the Janitor song - This is a cult classic with all sorts of 50's style jokes, songs and the like. The infamous "I didnt steal no bike either" line starts here. Someone is murdering the school kids. With gangs, fights and all sorts of rants and raves, I really like this episode a lot as do a lot of MST fans.
Giant Spider Invasion - Show 810 - the first color movie on the scifi channel era of episodes. The movie for me is a guilty pleasure and spiders are creepy, the big one is a VW bug in a spider costume, but this is somewhat gory (uncut)-where the man gets eaten and there is a scene where that sick father who wears a girdle flirts a lot with his daughter (uncut you get to see her topless) Bill Rebane calls this his worst, but I like it and it for me makes a great episode. I have watched this one over and over. I didnt like the host segments as much because the focus was less on the skits from the movie and more of a weekly continuation of the cast, which doesnt work because some episodes arent on DVD so it ruins the continuity.
The last episode- an all time favorite movie of mine and why this DVD is OOP -
Godzilla vs Megalon - Show 212
A favorite episode of mine. I love Godzilla movies, even this one, low budget & all. This is the worst Godzilla movie in terms of special effects , by far and the best choice for an MST3K show...Godzilla vs Megalon had no budget, stock footage, goofy dialog, a stupid kid (the kid is from Godzilla vs Hedorah)and it is still very entertaining story wise. Its a popcorn movie.
I enjoyed the segments in this a lot & the invention exchange is a hoot, Joel as Jiffy Pop Popcorn. I really like Season 2 a lot... Anyway, this volume is out of print due to this very title, Toho wasnt too thrilled about an unauthorized release of it, similar to when Alpha Video released this a few years ago.. To see this movie uncut is VERY cool, sci-fi channel plays it every now and then. There are tons of scenes in the international English dubbing of the movie. If you want to see an MST3K show for the first time, this is a very good one to start with at least with Joel...get this set if you have the money to get it. This is a big winner..B000GIXED611A226RKVI5VY0N6A226RKVI5VY0N6Mark J. Callais Jr.Scarlet Edge82008-05-01Failed to deliverI was exstatic when this boxset came in the mail. I had wanted it for a while. Much to my surprise, when I opened it up, it was discless. All that was sent to me was the box. Now i can't prove this, I can only give my word. However, one evidence that's on my side is the wrapping. It wasn't the same as all my other MST3Ks. This one had a harder, more 'crinkly' wrapping while normal MST3Ks have a softer wrapping. It could just have easily been opened up, and re-wrapped in this different material. I contacted the company and have yet to get a response. This company still has my money while I have no movies. I plan on ordering another one (from a different company) but I want a resolution to this problem before I do that.B000GIXED650A3QQGPI3CTV9SXA3QQGPI3CTV9SXStuart FloydNew York, NY02008-04-01A fan all the wayWouldn't miss owning any of their compilations. just good ole dorky fun and some great awful films! HolderThe Review's the ThingColumbus, Indiana, United States22007-08-22Certainly Unique!A group of three women have hidden diamonds somewhere. The women were captured and sent to prison, but they have yet to confess the location of the diamonds. Fortunately (or unfortunately, depending on whether you are an audience member for this movie), the police have a clever plot to locate the diamonds. A female police officer (Carole Mathews) is going to prison to infiltrate the gang. She will help the three women escape and let them lead her to the location of the hidden diamonds. My only question is: Why didn't I think of that?

While we see the setup for the great jail break, we also get to see Bob Matthews (played by Touch, later Mike, Conners, star of "Mannix"; Conners has appeared in hundreds of movies and television episodes, including "Island in the Sky" with John Wayne) and his girl friend wandering about, apparently at Mardi Gras in New Orleans. Eventually they end up boating in the same swamp as...

The prison break ladies have made their getaway. Unfortunately, they require new transportation. Just about that time Bob and his girl friend show up in a boat. What a coincidence! At first, the three tough-as-hangnails prison babes want to kill Bob and his girl friend, but the undercover police woman convinces the women that the pair would be better as hostages versus alligator snacks.

The police plan works, except now Bob and his girl friend are tagging along. Things get pretty boring from this point forward, so director Roger Corman livens things up by having the ladies get into fights. The fights look over-exaggerated, but they sure are fun! We also get to see macho man Connors tied to a tree while a hot prison babe cozies up to him. See, the excitement knows no bounds!

Roger Corman is generally better when he has a rubber monster floating about somewhere. We only get a poor defenseless alligator in this movie. Against three prison babes, a police woman and Mike Connors, I felt sorrier for the alligator than I did for his intended prey. The alligator would have just got indigestion anyway (kind of like the audience).

In order to want this film you have to be a really, REALLY big fan of Roger Corman or one of the people appearing in this movie. If you are not a really big fan, why bother? This movie has a weak plot and the acting is frequently over-the-top. When the acting is not hammy, it is corny. The movie is so slow in places that I had a hard time staying awake.

There are a few movies where you wonder why you spent the time to watch it. This movie definitely falls into that category. Unless you are trying to fill out your collection of Roger Corman or Mike Connors movies, try "Attack of the Giant Leeches" or "Humanoids from the Deep."

Good luck - you'll need it!

B0001MMF4G31A1AO3L476K5SI0A1AO3L476K5SI0Gary BowdenFort Smith, Arkansas United States12007-02-11Lots of padding...and Touch Conners!!!.I've only seen this movie through MST3K when it was SWAMP DIAMONDS and it was a very funny episode when they did it,which you can get on Volume 10.Mike Conners is in this, but was credited as Touch Conners. There's lots of padding in this movie and it seems like there wasn't much editing at all.Plus, another mistake is when Touch's girl makes a run for it in the canoe and she falls over, she's actually in a swimming pool instead of in a swamp...Sill enjoyable nonetheless..B0001MMF4G24A2AMPPQJUTCX08A2AMPPQJUTCX08Alex Zydorczyk42007-01-04Bayou BabesI bought this movie thinking it would be an old horror movie. I can't say I was necessarily disappointed since I was still mildly entertained. To sum it up 3 tough as nails criminals (haha) and an undercover cop go into the jungle to find diamonds. They come across some guy and his girl, kidnap them and their boat. Then lots of nothing happens but they still film it anyways. Also, an animal was severely injured during the making of this film, so beware. I wouldn't recommend this movie to anybody who doesn't already have a passion for olden day movies. Although it does have its funny moments I assume most will fall asleep like the people I watched it with.B0001MMF4G21A37563JES12QFA37563JES12QFMaryToronto12005-04-13Mildly Amusing Roger Corman Hokum"Swamp Women" is generally regarded as one of the worst films by B-movie auteut Roger Corman (it was on "Mystery Science Theater" as well as in the Medveds' old book "50 Worst Films of All Time"). It's the story of four tough-talkin' prison girls who go to a swamp to find some hidden diamonds. Along the way they kidnap a strapping young man and his cowardly wife, who abruptly dies early on. This isn't one of Corman's more entertaining cheapies, although it has its moments. The alligator wrestling scene is a high point in the history of bad movies, and the hilariously macho prison girls (including regular Corman leading lady Beverly Garland) inspire a few giggles.
The DVD from Brentwood is, unsurprisingly for a bargain-bin disc, unexceptional. The colour image is murky and faded, while the sound often seems muffled. That being said, I doubt there are any pristine versions of "Swamp Women" to use as a master. There are no extras.B0001MMF4G31A35ELQZQKZTEPCA35ELQZQKZTEPCLee12004-09-12Cheesy FunThis movie was made around 1955 so the above "1941" listed year is 14 years too early. I haven't seen this DVD version but I have seen the film. Swamp Woman was not intended to be taken seriously! It is a mans' fantasy film about beautiful women convicts holding a handsome guy and his girl-friend hostage in the swamp! heee! A sort of guilty pleasure. My enjoyment of this film is watching Beverly Garland, who is always wonderful to look at!Product DescriptionStudio: Bci Eclipse Comp Llc Release Date: 03/09/2004B000087F1QPrehistoric WomenB001BSBBMGCreature from the Haunted Sea - In COLOR! Everyone knows and agrees that the Franco version is excellent and the best of all the James Dean films, but this movie is far from being as bad as most people seem to think it is.In fact I think that it is underrated and uncredited in many areas. This film is hated by a lot of Dean fans who feel that Casper made a horrible Jimmy.I don't agree.I don't think there is a person on the face of the Earth that can accurately portray the greatness and magnetism that is Jimmy. James Franco came closest, but Casper did not do a bad job. I'm a fan of Casper's too and I think that he did a fair job here.Carrie Mitchum was the perfect Pier Angeli. She was fantastic .She was the perfect Pier . She is similar in stature to Pier and her accent was perfect. She even looks like Pier a bit.She has played the role of Pier the best so far hands down... What is most overlooked and underappreciated about this film though is its deep exploration of the romance between Jimmy and Pier. Its the major part of the story here and no other Jimmy film so far has devoted this much time to the Jimmy/Pier romance or delved this deeply into it.And as a Jimmy/Pier fan, I really love and appreciate that.I think that their romance hasn't been depicted enough in either books or film. And for those two things alone, the film deserves a lot of credit and praise. The film is a lovely tribute to their love. The soundtrack is full of 50s Music. And the transfer to DVD is really bright and clear with great sound.

Before I wrap up my review, I'd like to comment on a couple of mistakes made by my fellow Reviewers. I don't think the film necessarily depicted Natalie Wood badly. By her own admission, she had a big crush on Jimmy and she often flirted with him almost the entire time she knew him. That has been stated in many books.

And Jimmy did see and speak to Pier again at least a few times after they broke up. They spoke on the phone while she was in the hospitalafter being injured on a plane while she was pregnant and a couple of Jimmy's friends saw her over at his house not long before he died. That in the book Little Boy Lost if anyone cares to read it.
Just thought it was important to clear those things up.630548137722A1U6B2LDK3BUVUA1U6B2LDK3BUVULFKeep your feedback to yourself, these are my opinions, not yoursUSA52006-01-02Pretty bad movieI don't know anything about James Dean. I'm not a fan of his. The only reason I saw this film is because my wife picked it up for a dollar.

The film makes James Dean look like a jerk. I'll give you an example. He is in love with an Italian girl, and in front of her mother he insults Italians by referring to one as a pasta head.

He is a self centered and annoying jerk throughout much of the movie. Reading other reviews on this site, it seems that he wasn't that way in real life.

Also, I remember reading somewhere that he had a terrible relationship with his foster parents, and that he received a lot of beatings. In this film, his dad is just peachy with him. If they can't even get that right, I have to wonder who this film is about.

There is an ultra phony scene where James Dean makes a tough guy basically quack like a duck. He tells the tough guy to admit that he is a yellow chicken, and the guy does, all because James Dean is holding a finger against the guy's eye. What a stupid scene. The guy should have grabbed his hand and pulled it away from his eye, and then socked him. How stupid was this? You can't just stand there holding your finger to someone's eye. It simply doesn't work. Either you poke the man's eye or you get your hand pulled away, one or the other. It is not difficult to pull someone's hand away from your damn eye and move your head back.

The whole movie was intent on portraying James Dean as some tough guy with an attitude, rebel without a cause. It was just stupid. That was the name of a movie. That wasn't the biography of a three dimensional man.

The love of his life, Pier Angeli, came off as an idiot, even moreso than Dean. She loved Dean but she married Vic Damone because her mother told her to. What? What century were these people living in? That was ridiculous. If I am to believe these characters as presented, I can feel no sympathy for that moronic girl, but only scorn, and wish her the worst. Too bad she didn't get killed in a car wreck. Moron.

All in all, a frustrating and stupid movie. I was rooting against the characters because they were so damn annoying and stupid. I was wishing them the worst. A nice happy ending would have been for them all to fall in quicksand and sink.630548137753A3SBVTRU7301IIA3SBVTRU7301IIThomas Yan Ongfeilung888Azusa, CA42005-09-30Suprisingly GoodAfter all the negative reviews I've read on this, I was suprised that I actually enjoyed this film. It's not as deep as the James Franco version, but it was still a good film. It shows the more crazier side of Dean, which I think is completely true, because I have read about Dean and seen bios on him and a lot of people do say that he is a wierd guy and a bit crazy. Him being a genius actor, I'm not so suprised that he is a bit crazy. Anyway, the film did heavily go over the Pier Angeli love affair. Though I doubt James Dean actually loved her as much as the film emphasizes, I do believe that she really loved him. This movie didn't touch on the homosexual side of Dean, though not an appealing fact about his life, it's still part of his history. The Franco version didn't really go over this either, but it still touched upon this part of Dean's life in a classy way. This movie is perhaps half accurate and half not, but I still enjoyed this movie and would recommend it to any James Dean fan like myself.630548137742A1ZUHGQHT45TWGA1ZUHGQHT45TWGMark A. Piersonmanray238OF PALM BAY FAME... Florida United States22005-04-05A much underappreciated film just like the man James Dean...This film never claims to be a COMPLETE or ACCURATE autobiographical release. Its a combination of fact and fiction. Just like Hollywood itself.

I do feel Casper Van Dien does a very good role playing James Dean. I mean honestly how can you expect ANYONE to measure up to the man himself. We all know and agree James Dean himself is just larger than life and borders more on the edge of something beyond words. He was just so talented, just so enigmatic!! Even today his body of work touches each new generation in so many ways.

Granted, if you are looking for a complete chronological movie about the life of James Dean then look elsewhere. But if you are looking for an interesting little movie then watch this. If you are a James Dean fan of any sort then I feel this movie is worth watching and even owning. Casper Van Dien IS A WONDERFUL actor. This movie just proves it. This movie is also interesting because I beleive this is the LAST film the veteran actor Robert Mitchum EVER appeared in! I mean this man in his own right is a film legend. Also it is the FIRST movie to ever star Robert Mitchum's granddaughter.

This is a neat little flick about a PORTION of James Dean's life. It represents that part of his life rather well. The enigma that is "James Dean" today is probably so far removed from the real man we would all be hurt if the truth were known. He represents something different to each of us. That is what makes James Dean the "legend" so AWESOME. This movie just adds a little to that legend and enigma!!! 630548137740A3TSGWAZ9415XTA3TSGWAZ9415XTCbay02005-03-05Greatest Love Story Of all timeI really enjoyed this movie, it helped ignite my love for Jimmy. I had never heard of Jimmy or Casper before I seen this movie, therefore I Originally had no bias what so ever, I did go on to read his biography and research him greatly after viewing the movie. Once done this I watched the movie again and I must say I still enjoyed it, yes I admit there was sum really odd things about the acting and portrayal of Jimmy however there was that intence look and voice that Casper Portrayed oh so well!!! Cashing in on the rock 'n' roll craze sweeping America in the fifties, Shake, Rattle and Rock plays up the generation gap between hipster teens and older 'squares'. When a quartet of Puritan do-gooders try to impose a ban on the 'devil's music', TV producer Touch Connors (The Ten Commandments) does his best to convince the squares that the new music is harmless fun. Sterling olloway (Meet John Doe) is a riot as Connors' jive-talking assistant! A showcase for the top rock 'n' roll talents of the day, Shake, Rattle and Rock stars Fats Domino performing "I'm in Love Again", "Ain't it a Shame" and "Honey Chile", while Big Joe Turner rocks out on "Feelin' Happy" and "Lipstick, Powder and Paint". Remade for TV in 1994 starring Ren e Zellweger. 2006B000KF0GRWDon't Knock the Rock / Rock Around the ClockB000FIHNEIRock All Night [NON-USA FORMAT, PAL, Reg.2.4 Import - Australia]B0009S4IHEJamboreeB0006N0E3ORock Baby Rock ItB0002235LMHigh School Confidential524760Classics163428Musicals508528Musicals & Performing Arts404276Genres130DVD139452Video722783011General AAS508528Musicals & Performing Arts404276Genres130DVD139452Video418446Connors, Mike416120( C )404278Actors & Actresses251273011Custom Stores44261011Specialty Stores130DVD139452Video421476Dumbrille, Douglass419544( D )404278Actors & Actresses251273011Custom Stores44261011Specialty Stores130DVD139452Video421484Dumont, Margaret419544( D )404278Actors & Actresses251273011Custom Stores44261011Specialty Stores130DVD139452Video420952Domino, Fats419544( D )404278Actors & Actresses251273011Custom Stores44261011Specialty Stores130DVD139452Video424604Gaye, Lisa424172( G )404278Actors & Actresses251273011Custom Stores44261011Specialty Stores130DVD139452Video427242Hatton, Raymond426368( H )404278Actors & Actresses251273011Custom Stores44261011Specialty Stores130DVD139452Video428318Holloway, Sterling426368( H )404278Actors & Actresses251273011Custom Stores44261011Specialty Stores130DVD139452Video431796Kolb, Clarence430468( K )404278Actors & Actresses251273011Custom Stores44261011Specialty Stores130DVD139452Video455290Cahn, Edward L455278( C )403502Directors251273011Custom Stores44261011Specialty Stores130DVD139452Video579548( S )579510Titles251273011Custom Stores44261011Specialty Stores130DVD139452Video387546011DVD387545011Format (binding)386709011Refinements130DVD139452Video405392011DVDs Playable in any Region405390011Region (feature_two_browse-bin)386709011Refinements130DVD139452Video5620870111950 - 1959562084011Decade (feature_three_browse-bin)386709011Refinements130DVD139452Video617866011English598208011Original Language (theme_browse-bin)386709011Refinements130DVD139452Video671505011Standard Edition603112011Special Editions (feature_four_browse-bin)386709011Refinements130DVD139452Video643791011Grade Level (feature_five_browse-bin)643792011Preschool643793011Kindergarten643794011Elementary School643800011Middle & High School643808011College643809011Post-Graduate386709011Refinements130DVD139452Video671506011Audio Type (feature_six_browse-bin)671507011Digital Sound671508011Dolby671509011Surround Sound386709011Refinements130DVD139452Video
