It has never been re-run here to my knowledge, and so I am so happy to be able to purchase the entire series to share with my own children. For me the stories are also new so we all have the joy of walking with Caine and reflecting on lifes lessons with wise counsel.
While I hear the criticisms of shortening and cropping, and one of my discs arrived with a scratch on it, for me the messages in the stories are the most important part. I purchased all three seasons as at the time it was the cheaper option and content according to other reviewers was the same. Thanks for the memories David.B00013F38K30AQH2YEE0ZTERDAQH2YEE0ZTERDM. Don't damage the work this way.B00013F38K51A3BRHTAUBZUGK8A3BRHTAUBZUGK8Jym CherryWriting Under The Influence of Rock 'n' Roll www.jymsbooks.comWheaton, IL United States12009-06-10Strange Treasures These EpisodesIn the basement of my parents house on a Thursday night in 1972 I was flipping through TV channels when I a sunburst appeared on the screen, and some vaguely Oriental sounding music boomed out of the TV, and a far off figure of a man trudged across the sand dune in a desert. I watched the pilot episode of Kung-Fu, and the mixture of fighting and philosophy was food for an 11 year old seeker.

Kung-Fu is the story of how a Shaolin priest comes to be in the post-Civil War American west. David Carradine plays Kwai Chang Caine who is the son of an American and a Chinese woman. Both die leaving the young Caine to be taken in by the Shaolin monks who raise the young boy teaching him the ways of the mind and body, philosophy and fighting. On the way to a celebration with one of his masters the adult Caine kills the nephew of the Emperor (after he kills the master). Caine then flees China for America not only to flee the death sentence he received in China but also a search to find his one living brother Daniel Caine. This search takes him through the American west where he finds American culture and customs as exotic as they find him. As cultures clash Caine and prejudices flourish Caine finds himself calling upon all the lessons taught him by his Shaolin teachers not in only in living a just life, through the extensive use of flashbacks we witness the training the young Caine undergoes and how the philosophy relates to the circumstnaces Caine finds himself in.

I got this collection when it first came out and I sat watching all the episodes reliving the nostalgia of being in that basement again. I was amazed at the quality of the shows they look as good (or better) as they did when they first aired on TV. The story lines also held up, they tried for the universal in the themes, for instance the episode "Chains" is a variation on the movie The Defiant Ones. And the show is also laced with special guest stars including Jodie Foster, John Carradine (star David Carradine's father), Dana Elcar, Albert Salmi and a host of others that if you watched TV in the 70's you'll recognize. With the recent death of David Carradine I once again took the DVD's out and watched the episodes and discovered that this show and it's star played an influential role in my life, and they still have the power to influence, if you let them.B00013F38K51A2TXR85WQLE32NA2TXR85WQLE32ND. S. ThurlowAlaska12009-06-05Enter the Fugitive Priest...."Kung Fu", featuring David Carradine as the fugitive Shaolin priest Kwai Chang Caine, was a TV phenomenon of the early 1970's and its martial arts craze. If the fighting scenes look less dramatic to audiences used to the high skills and special effects of today's martial arts movies, the gentle message of stoic tolerance holds up extremely with time. This DVD set contains the pilot TV movie and the 15 episodes which comprised the first season, along with a few extra features on the production of the show.

The format of the show will be familiar to its fans. Caine wanders the American West of roughly the 1870's, on the run from the killing of a member of the Chinese Royal Family. Caine, half American and half Chinese, will search for a long missing brother while dodging Chinese agents and US law. Each episode pits Caine against a situation in the present to which his past as a disciple and a priest in a Shaolin Temple in China provides guidance. The parallel story arcs allow the viewer to see how the young Caine learns the wisdom and discipline the mature Caine applies in the present. The stories were driven by subtle moral dilemmas and by a rotating cast of guest stars, of which this first season features Jody Foster and John Saxon, among others. The humble Caine does endlessly good in his own way but seems never able to stay.

"Kung Fu: The Complete First Season" is very highly recommended to fans of the series and of recently deceased actor David Carradine in what became his signature role. B00013F38K40AP111RY9Z0Q8PAP111RY9Z0Q8PMary E. OvermanDurham, NC USA42009-04-25The Price of BigotryBruce Lee, the original choice for this series star, would have been so much better. Not only was Lee first pick, he was the mind behind the series! But in 1972, an Asian star on television? Unthinkable. And so we get this all too clearly American actor who fakes his Chinese-American origins with painfully slow speech, though he spouts genuine Buddhist philosophy. Granted, Carradine did later become a grand master, but his moves for the television had to be slowed, and his notorious arrogance (at least for me) shows through. Stellar performances were given by genuine Asian stars like Keye Luke, Philip Ahn, and others, and the series did ignite an interest in Kung Fu. Still, I cannot help but think what Bruce Lee himself would have done with the role!DescriptionHe is a man of peace in a violent land. He is Kwai Chang Caine, schooled in the spirit-mind-body ways of the Shaolin priesthood by the blind, avuncular Master Po and the stern yet loving master Kan. Caine speaks softly but hits hard. He lives humbly yet knows great contentment. He is the Old West's most unusual hero. But hero is not a word Caine would use. He would simply say, "I am a man."Amazon.comEverybody was kung-fu fighting after the 1972 premiere of this mystic western starring David Carradine (snatching the role from Bruce Lee) in his signature, Emmy-nominated role as Caine, a stoic Shaolin monk forced to flee China after killing the royal family member who slew his Master. Our wandering hero roams the west in search of his long-lost brother, while eluding American and Imperial bounty hunters, and imparting his ancient wisdom on those he encounters and is compelled to aid. Kung-Fu was never a ratings force, but its cult status was assured long before Samuel L. Jackson referenced it in Pulp Fiction. Along with the inaugural 15 episodes, this three-disc set contains the feature-length pilot that establishes the series' iconography: the inscrutable aphorisms ("When you cease to strive to understand, then you will know without understanding"); the flashbacks to Caine's youth, where the orphaned half-American and half-Chinese boy served as disciple ("Grasshopper") to the Old Man; and, of course, the anticipated moments when the peaceful Caine, like Billy Jack, is reluctantly compelled by some frontier bigot to use his fighting skills. Look for appearances by father John Carradine and brothers Keith and Robert in the episode, "Dark Angel." That's 11-year-old future Oscar-winner Jodie Foster in "Althea." Other notable episodes include the Emmy-winning "An Eye for an Eye" and "Chains," featuring an Emmy-nominated turn by Michael Greene as a not-so-gentle giant to whom an imprisoned Caine is chained. "With each ending," Caine observes in the episode, "The Third Man," comes a new beginning." Kung Fu's new beginning comes on DVD. Thanks to the timeless frontier setting and the uniqueness of its genre-bending concept, Kung Fu dates better than other '70s series. As these episodes demonstrate, the show still has plenty of kick. --Donald LiebensonB0006BAWYMKung Fu - The Complete Second SeasonB0009K7QZSKung Fu - The Complete Third SeasonB000NO2434Circle of Iron (2-Disc Special Edition)B001FB4W0WTrue Blood: The Complete First Season (HBO Series)B0015RRNMABurn Notice - That's because of James Coburn's special brand of American cool. He's so cool, in fact, that he doesn't care to save the world. That is, until he's personally threatened. He's a true libertarian, with more gadgets and girls than Bond, but with none of his stress or responsibility. In Our Man Flint (1966), he's totally unflappable as he thwarts mad scientists who control the weather--and an island of pleasure drones. Lee J. Cobb costars as Flint's flustered superior, and Edward Mulhare plays a British nemesis with snob appeal. For fans of Austin Powers, incidentally, the funny-sounding phone comes from the Flint films. However, the best gadget remains the watch that enables Flint to feign death. There's a great Jerry Goldsmith score, too.
There was bound to be a Flint sequel, and In Like Flint (1967) delivers the same kind of zany fun as its predecessor. Flint is recruited once again by Lee J. Cobb to be the government's top secret agent, this time to solve a mishap involving the President. Turns out, the Chief Executive has been replaced by an evil duplicate. The new plan for world domination involves feminine aggression, and Flint, with his overpowering charisma, is just the man to turn the hostile forces around. In Like Flint is still over the top, but some of the novelty has worn off, and it doesn't have quite the same edge as the original. Even Jerry Goldsmith's score is a bit more subdued. But the film still has James Coburn and that funny phone. --Bill DesowitzB0009RCPWKMatt Helm Lounge (The Silencers/ Murderers Row/The Ambushers/The Wrecking Crew)B0001XAOBGThe President's AnalystB00000IREABarbarella: Queen of the GalaxyB001PPLIEGQuantum of SolaceB000063K2RThe Great Race163306General163296Action & Adventure404276Genres130DVD139452Video290941Comic Action163296Action & Adventure404276Genres130DVD139452Video163371General163357Comedy404276Genres130DVD139452Video163390General163379Drama404276Genres130DVD139452Video524228Classics163379Drama404276Genres130DVD139452Video923878General512030Mystery & Suspense404276Genres130DVD139452Video898096Classics512030Mystery & Suspense404276Genres130DVD139452Video292287Mystery512030Mystery & Suspense404276Genres130DVD139452Video163411Suspense512030Mystery & Suspense404276Genres130DVD139452Video418074Cobb, Lee J416120( C )404278Actors & Actresses251273011Custom Stores44261011Specialty Stores130DVD139452Video418088Coburn, James416120( C )404278Actors & Actresses251273011Custom Stores44261011Specialty Stores130DVD139452Video419012Craig, Yvonne416120( C )404278Actors & Actresses251273011Custom Stores44261011Specialty Stores130DVD139452Video421444Duggan, Andrew419544( D )404278Actors & Actresses251273011Custom Stores44261011Specialty Stores130DVD139452Video421842Edelman, Herb421742( E )404278Actors & Actresses251273011Custom Stores44261011Specialty Stores130DVD139452Video423420Fong, Benson422476( F )404278Actors & Actresses251273011Custom Stores44261011Specialty Stores130DVD139452Video425264Golan, Gila424172( G )404278Actors & Actresses251273011Custom Stores44261011Specialty Stores130DVD139452Video426514Hale, Jean426368( H )404278Actors & Actresses251273011Custom Stores44261011Specialty Stores130DVD139452Video429142Ihnat, Steve429104( I )404278Actors & Actresses251273011Custom Stores44261011Specialty Stores130DVD139452Video432986Lee, Anna432148( L )404278Actors & Actresses251273011Custom Stores44261011Specialty Stores130DVD139452Video438472Mulhare, Edward434574( M )404278Actors & Actresses251273011Custom Stores44261011Specialty Stores130DVD139452Video599826Comedy501230Boxed Sets251273011Custom Stores44261011Specialty Stores130DVD139452Video599830Drama501230Boxed Sets251273011Custom Stores44261011Specialty Stores130DVD139452Video456292Douglas, Gordon455972( D )403502Directors251273011Custom Stores44261011Specialty Stores130DVD139452Video300187Father's Day300182Holidays & Seasonal251273011Custom Stores44261011Specialty Stores130DVD139452Video908716All Fox Titles90871420th Century Fox Home Entertainment468374Studio Specials251273011Custom Stores44261011Specialty Stores130DVD139452Video908720General908718Action90871420th Century Fox Home Entertainment468374Studio Specials251273011Custom Stores44261011Specialty Stores130DVD139452Video908722Comedy90871420th Century Fox Home Entertainment468374Studio Specials251273011Custom Stores44261011Specialty Stores130DVD139452Video579552( U )579510Titles251273011Custom Stores44261011Specialty Stores130DVD139452Video1265183011Movies & TV on DVD and Blu-ray Disc Trade-In44261011Specialty Stores130DVD139452Video387546011DVD387545011Format (binding)386709011Refinements130DVD139452Video390121011Widescreen390118011Picture Format (format)386709011Refinements130DVD139452Video388395011Boxed Set390118011Picture Format (format)386709011Refinements130DVD139452Video405391011US & CA DVDs: Region 1405390011Region (feature_two_browse-bin)386709011Refinements130DVD139452Video5620880111960 - As an Asian woman, it was one of the few things that I saw in the media that protrayed Asians (both men and women) as actually people rather than stereotypes. Sure, the movie has some less than politically correct moments, but overall it was groundbreaking at the time. Plus, the songs are actually good! Warning: there is a danger that the songs will get stuck in your head!B000H1RFPA50A1D0WW4JV7868BA1D0WW4JV7868BAnna K. PopekLas Vegas02009-02-19Flower drum song historical musical- 1950's post ww2 view asia theme Hong Kong san franThis movie is a chronicle of the results of the end of ww2 and chinas re organization. Mainland china was struggling with governemnt and leaning toward mao tse tung communisim, hong kong a safe haven had a stream of main land chinese coming in, the rich chinese did'nt know outcome and many came to Amercia's San fransico china town district. The movie is a cultural, musical and visual treasure. As it works out a friend of the families father was aback round dancers. He entered the same way the the "final girl" (wont reveal story line ) enters. Eventually bringing most of family to America; Some stayed in manland china trusting ther beloved history and customs....little did they know, Hong Kong would have been better. Great movie, great musical and even shows many asian cultural aspects, dragon dance, arranged marriage versus new amercian ways, I ususlally like action or sci fi, but loved this movie, enough to buy and share. I think you will enjoy history , story and musicProduct DescriptionMovie DVDAmazon.comRodgers and Hammerstein made BIG musicals--sweeping song and dance numbers, elaborate stagings, sweet heroines, and love struck but confused heroes. Flower Drum Song has all these elements, so why is it so little known? Perhaps because it had the misfortune to be released the same year (1961) as West Side Story, or maybe because at 133 minutes it's overlong, or did the audience have trouble accepting an all-Asian cast in an Asian-themed musical? Whatever the reasons, it's time to recognize Flower Drum Song for the gem it is.
Picture bride Mei Li (Miyoshi Umeki) and her father arrive in San Francisco, having smuggled themselves into the country so Mei Li can marry nightclub owner Sammy Fong (whose mother arranged the whole deal). Mei Li is fascinated by the city and immediately charms its denizens with a delicate rendition of "One Hundred Million Miracles." Fong (Jack Soo), who is having an affair with his star singer, the sexy and scheming Linda Low (Nancy Kwan), pawns Mei Li off on the Wang family, whose eldest son, Ta (James Shigeta), needs a wife (at least that's what his father has decided). Old Chinese culture and new American ideals clash at every turn, with the elders struggling to understand their Americanized children and the children struggling to accept and honor their heritage. Though the movie is dated in some respects, the theme of assimilation vs. separation holds up remarkably well and rings true. "The Other Generation" beautifully illustrates the generation gap.
As this is a romantic musical, you know from the beginning which couples will end up together. The most famous song is "I Enjoy Being a Girl," sung by Linda Low as she dresses to seduce Wang Ta. Though too many triangulations and misunderstandings prolong the inevitable conclusion, Flower Drum Song is a very enjoyable and often funny ride. --Dana Van NestB0001ZWLTMThe World of Suzie WongB000HT3PGUThe Rodgers & Hammerstein Collection [Remastered] (The Sound of Music / The King and I / Oklahoma! Peck's discussions with his Doctor atheist friend are also very well written and acted. The scene at the end is very moving and hasn't failed to make me tear up a bit. I like to watch this film at Christmas but it is not a Christmas film.
This is a fantastic print from Fox, also. B000FFJ83K41A5DQGGNM5BG4EA5DQGGNM5BG4EZiskel & Egbert12009-01-10"Keys" not Peck's best, but the story carries him anyway. It is obvious that this is Gregory Peck's first film, in that he does not yet have that air that the great actors have. To see him at his best, check out his scene with the Town Judge as he accepts the job as defense attorney, Atticus Finch, in "To Kill a Mockingbird."

A lot of the Roman Catholic religion is toned down in this piece for the sake of palatability. Having done so, the movie makers have made a touching human drama out of missionary work in the Far East. It deals with some of the cultural differences from an ignorant 1950's Western point of view, but somehow this does not end up spoiling the film.

In the end, the shortcomings of the church are not glossed over, while the good actions of good men within the obviously flawed institution are highlighted to good effect. It is a story of Godly love overcoming all weaknesses in the heart of a "failure" of the priesthood. While others within the church go on to personal fame and glory--like his close boyhood friend, played by Vincent Price--our hero soldiers on in anonymity where the "missionary rubber meets the road", so to speak.

Overall, this movie does not deny the shortcomings of many in the church, while simultaneously revealing the work of those who do Christ proud. This is a must-see for missionaries of all denominations. Four Stars.

For all those who love tear-jerker movies, my wife rates this as a "one-cry" movie. Facing scorn, revolution, and poverty, Fr. Francis Chisholm leads his new flock by gentle wisdom and perseverence. Overlong even with some heartwarming and important episodic developments, the film remains a substantative viewing experience. (Includes Vincent Price and a young Roddy McDowell as the boy Francis Chisholm. Also a winner of several Oscars and nominations.) DescriptionA marvelous spectacle spanning six decades and two continents, The Keys of the Kingdom is the glorious epic that introduced audiences to screen newcomer Gregory Peck.
After losing his parents and his childhood sweetheart to tragedy, Francis Chisholm (Peck) joins the priesthood and devotes himself to a life of service and compassion. But Chisholm?s unorthodox beliefs raise eyebrows among his superiors, especially Bishop Angus Mealy (Vincent Price). And when he is sent to the farthest reaches of China to rebuild an abandoned mission, Chisholm faces his greatest challenge of all: to tame a hostile land, win over a superstitious people and save his parish from an invading army. Nominated* for four Academy Awards®, including Best Actor (Peck), The Keys of the Kingdom is a ?towering film stamped with greatness? PayneM. Payne22009-02-14Are We Not Getting A Bit OverwroughtCharley Varrick is a good film from the 1970's. It is not the best thing Matthau ever did but its a good evenings entertainment. And as in most Matthau against the world movies, he wins in a clever way.

As to this incessant diatribe about the aspect ratio. Ok, its not wide screen. Get over it. The company who put it on DVD knew it had limited appeal and choose not to release it in the wider format. Still looks pretty good on my flat screen. And as to this allegation of "Scan & Pan".
I do not know which DVD you watched, but mine was not scan and pan.
Buy it, its cheap and is a good once a year movie.B0003JANSW41A39CX0EE4BZCZCA39CX0EE4BZCZCCraig ConnellLockport, NY USA12009-02-03Matthau Makes The Modern-Day Noir WorkThis was a pleasant surprise; better than I thought it would be, although I shouldn't have been surprised since Walter Matthau usually plays interesting roles.

What I appreciated was the realism of the story, except for two things at the end of the film such as no one coming to investigate a loud chase scenes and firebombing? Overall, the ending, however, was a very satisfying one, and one that brings you back for future viewings. Matthau also makes the film realistic, as he typecast perfectly for this role.

Other than Matthau, the cast isn't a big-name one but a lot of familiar faces and names from movies in the '60s and very early 70s such as John Vernon, Sheree North, Joe Don Baker and Felicia Farr.Andy Robinson, is a not a known name in movies because he did years of television, but viewers might remember him as the creepy "Scorpio Killer" in the first "Dirty Harry" film.

"Charlie Varrick" is considered a film noir even though it's 1973 and in color, but it's noir in story and that's good enough for me. This is definitely worth a look if you like crime films. The only thing that bothers me is why Universal refuses to put this out on 1.85:1 widescreen, the way it was shot.
B0003JANSW50A3KMHIPBVA9RIYA3KMHIPBVA9RIYJudy Byrumnursemmcknoxville tn02008-12-12very good movieI ordered this for my dad but have since watched it also.It is a very good movie.I had never seen it.B0003JANSW50A14C2F100M5E66A14C2F100M5E66D. G. LuttrellJasperColorado22008-12-06accidental big time criminalThis movie, although badly dated, and at times predictable, show-cases
Walter Matthau's ability as a dramatic actor. This is one of the core
100 must have movies for me. The plot, concerning a small time bank
robbery that went horribly good, is entertaining. Joe Don Baker, just
out of a football uniform, makes a convincing enforcer, but not a
convincing actor. At times confusing as to who Joe Don Baker is working
for. Walter Matthau's partner in crime, Andy Robinson, was marked for
elimination out of the film before the 1/2 way mark, and never seen in
a movie again, was way too obvious. For a first time viewer, you may
find the movie mildly suspenseful, and entertaining trip to classic 70's
movies. I would advise that you rent it first, before you buy this
gem in the rough. But I say pop the popcorn and enjoy. B0003JANSW40A2GCHG6U8HTVITA2GCHG6U8HTVITC. O. DeRiemerSan Antonio, Texas, USA02008-10-31Walter Matthau's Charley Varrick is a bank robber to bet on. But avoid Joe Don Baker's MollySays the man looking at the business card, "'Charley Varrick, Last of the Independents.' I like that. Has a ring of finality." The man is Molly, a mob enforcer for special projects. You don't want to let him into your trailer. Charley Varrick will meet him when the small-time robbery Charley sets up at the Tres Cruces branch of Western Fidelity Bank goes really, really wrong.

Varrick (Walter Matthau) expected to clear maybe $20,000 or $30,000 from the heist. Instead, his wife, Nadine, waiting in the getaway car, shoots two cops, gets shot herself, and one of Charley's two associates gets killed. Charley, finally back at the trailer park and now a widow, is left with young, dumb Harmon Sullivan (Andrew Robinson) and exactly $765,118 in two big bags. When a newscast reports that the bank manager says only $2,000 was stolen, Charley wishes he'd stayed with stunt flying and crop dusting. The bank was mob controlled and all that cash was about to be sent out of the country for a good washing. Charley knows the cops are after him; now he knows the mob will be, too. They'll want their money back. Just as important, they're going to want to set an example.

Charley Varrick, for all its length (nearly two hours) and for all the queasiness of a ragged Walter Matthau boxing the compass on a round bed with a well-built mob babe, is one fine movie. The plot is so ingenious, the script so smart, the direction so tight, that all the cast members, as good as they are, could be replaced except for Matthau and Joe Don Baker as Molly and not a beat would be skipped.

Charley Varrick the movie comes down to a contest between Charley's sly-like-a-fox, laconic ingenuity and Molly's brutally direct approach to making love, repossessing a car or solving problems. Molly is a big man with a bland face, a nice smile, and who has serious anti-social issues. He smiles, but expect the worst from him if you're a black, a woman, in a wheelchair or the object of his contract. Walter Matthau, with his sagging face, con man personality and his shrewdness, is the heart of the movie, but Joe Don Baker makes you flinch with dreadful anticipation every time Molly comes on screen. Without these two powerful actors, Charley Varrick would have been a clever, amusing heist-and-chase movie. With the two of them, Charley Varrick is a classic.

Charley Varrick, along with The Laughing Policeman (1973) and Taking of Pelham One Two Three (1974) make up a sort of crime trifecta for Matthau. The Laughing Policeman is a good story although, in my opinion, it hasn't aged well. Pelham is just about as hard-edged as it was when it was released. Just as Charley Varrick benefits immensely from Joe Don Baker's Molly, Pelham benefits from Robert Shaw's utterly ruthless and dominating villain, code-named Blue.

Keep an eye out for William Schallert who plays Sheriff Bill Horton. I've always liked Schallert. He usually played smart and honorable guys, sometimes judges or doctors or just friends. He played a good friend of Walter Matthau's small town lawyer, Harmon Cobb, in the well-made TV mystery drama, Incident (1990). Cobb defends a German prisoner of war against a murder charge during WWII. It's an effective, tidy teleplay.

Many have commented on the nature of Universal's DVD release. It evidently was a cheap, get-it-out-the-door effort. The color transfer is not all that good. The wide-screen presentation is evidently chopped down from a pan-and-scan version, and if you're not careful when you buy this thing you'll wind up with the pan and scan. Charley Varrick needs a first class DVD release.DescriptionCharley Varrick is a small-time crook who outfoxes the Mob in this fast-paced offbeat thriller directed by Don Siegel. Academy Award winner Walter Matthau stars in a rare dramatic role, along with the powerful Joe Don Baker, as a tough Mafia hitman. Charley robs small banks with small payrolls. That keeps him out of trouble until he stumbles onto the Mob's secret stash. The chase is on as the Big Boys go after the "Last of the Independents." NorbergGrand Forks, ND02008-04-25How could you not like this?I think I've seen this (at least in part) when I was little, but for some unknown reason, I just watched this for the first time in memory. I really regret not watching it before now, because it is a classic. While the three sequels may not be classics, there's a reason why a movie like this has three sequels to begin with!

This is a perfect blend of Disney stars, with Dean Jones and Buddy Hackett highlighting the picture (along with Herbie of course). While these guys may not be confused with Laurence Olivier or Jimmy Stewart, they play a Disney part to perfection. Michele Lee is cute in her role (although that 60's hair leaves something to be desired) and David Tomlinson makes a "good" bad guy.

The antics in this film are quite hilarious at times. Admittedly, most of the laugh out loud parts are drawn from Herbie's antics, so that speaks to the Disney geniuses as much as it does to the acting of the stars. Hackett also draws a good portion of laughs, though--understandably when you take a look at that face!

All in all, this is a Disney film that belongs in the same discussion as "The Shaggy Dog" and "The Absent-Minded Professor." Completely clean entertainment for the whole family!
B000096IAH50A1KER0WLDLUGLHA1KER0WLDLUGLHDebra Delaneybuffalo galArkansas, USA02008-04-18Bonus Heaven!Disney Home Video - DVD - Restored to perfection, of course. I bought this for my daughter's family last Christmas. She loved all the bonus features, and there were plenty! She learned that Herbie "lives" with his long time co-star, Dean Jones. She also learned of the Herbie T.V. show, unfortunately cancelled after four episodes and that she's dying to see the made-for-TV remake of "The Love Bug" in which Herbie battles Evil Herbie! And there's lots more trivia on this two-disc set. I get the feeling they all love Herbie!DescriptionFor the first time ever you can enjoy this timeless classic in a Special Edition DVD. Fully restored to look and sound as it was originally intended, it also features hours of exclusive bonus materials your entire family will enjoy again and again. He's the star who provides the most laughs per gallon. He's Herbie, the lovable car with a mind of his own. Dean Jones, Michele Lee, and Buddy Hackett join Herbie in this revved-up comedy classic. Jones plays down-on-his-luck race car driver Jim Douglas, who reluctantly teams up with the little machine. Douglas thinks his sudden winning streak is due to his skill, not Herbie's. He finally realizes the car's worth when a sneaky rival plots to steal Herbie for himself. But it's Herbie who'll steal your heart in this wildly fun roller-coaster ride of a movie you'll never forget!Amazon.comThis savvy Disney hit from 1969 made a star of a Volkswagen precisely when the car was becoming more popular than ever. Dean Jones and Michele Lee head the cast in a story about a VW bug with a mind of its own. Disney point man Robert Stevenson, director of The Absent-Minded Professor, Mary Poppins, and lots of other Disney live-action hits, makes the slapstick work perfectly and keeps the laughs coming. Buddy Hackett is very funny in a supporting role. --Tom Keogh B0000DZTM7Herbie Rides AgainB0000DZTMYHerbie Goes to Monte CarloB0000DZTMAHerbie Goes BananasB00005JN0QThat Darn Cat!B00009Y3RCThe Absent-Minded Professor (Widescreen Edition)163350General163345Classics404276Genres130DVD139452Video163371General163357Comedy404276Genres130DVD139452Video14155021Down on Their Luck291103By Theme163357Comedy404276Genres130DVD139452Video163417General163414Kids & Family404276Genres130DVD139452Video290935Adventure163414Kids & Family404276Genres130DVD139452Video722769011General AAS507990Classics163414Kids & Family404276Genres130DVD139452Video300411Comedy163414Kids & Family404276Genres130DVD139452Video595062Family Films163414Kids & Family404276Genres130DVD139452Video409890Adrian, Iris409682( A )404278Actors & Actresses251273011Custom Stores44261011Specialty Stores130DVD139452Video423362Flynn, Joe422476( F )404278Actors & Actresses251273011Custom Stores44261011Specialty Stores130DVD139452Video423420Fong, Benson422476( F )404278Actors & Actresses251273011Custom Stores44261011Specialty Stores130DVD139452Video426396Hackett, Buddy426368( H )404278Actors & Actresses251273011Custom Stores44261011Specialty Stores130DVD139452Video430172Jones, Dean429340( J )404278Actors & Actresses251273011Custom Stores44261011Specialty Stores130DVD139452Video433068Lee, Michele432148( L )404278Actors & Actresses251273011Custom Stores44261011Specialty Stores130DVD139452Video444346Ross, Joe E442578( R )404278Actors & Actresses251273011Custom Stores44261011Specialty Stores130DVD139452Video449762Tomlinson, David448792( T )404278Actors & Actresses251273011Custom Stores44261011Specialty Stores130DVD139452Video462494Stevenson, Robert403580( S )403502Directors251273011Custom Stores44261011Specialty Stores130DVD139452Video919296Special Editions295214Fully Loaded DVDs251273011Custom Stores44261011Specialty Stores130DVD139452Video579534( L )579510Titles251273011Custom Stores44261011Specialty Stores130DVD139452Video300382All Disney Titles300381Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment251273011Custom Stores44261011Specialty Stores130DVD139452Video387546011DVD387545011Format (binding)386709011Refinements130DVD139452Video390121011Widescreen390118011Picture Format (format)386709011Refinements130DVD139452Video405385011G405383011MPAA Rating (feature_browse-bin)386709011Refinements130DVD139452Video405391011US & CA DVDs: Region 1405390011Region (feature_two_browse-bin)386709011Refinements130DVD139452Video5620880111960 - 1969562084011Decade (feature_three_browse-bin)386709011Refinements130DVD139452Video617866011English598208011Original Language (theme_browse-bin)386709011Refinements130DVD139452Video603123011Closed Caption603112011Special Editions (feature_four_browse-bin)386709011Refinements130DVD139452Video603120011Special Edition603112011Special Editions (feature_four_browse-bin)386709011Refinements130DVD139452Video671503011Collector's & Special Edition603112011Special Editions (feature_four_browse-bin)386709011Refinements130DVD139452Video643791011Grade Level (feature_five_browse-bin)643792011Preschool643793011Kindergarten643794011Elementary School643800011Middle & High School643808011College643809011Post-Graduate386709011Refinements130DVD139452Video671506011Audio Type (feature_six_browse-bin)671507011Digital Sound671508011Dolby671509011Surround Sound386709011Refinements130DVD139452VideoR2PRZLFO93SFXKTop Box Office Movies 1969R1T9HE0P77RWKHMegan MoviesR399WDD2VFSDM7Remember the 60's, MoviesR1YAUBAPCRF6LVPossessed VehiclesR2CPBKWDFU3EUERacing and MeR1QWXUMOLCNCBXMovies for the Elementary CrowdR33I4PX19BY9ROFavorite Children's MoviesR2SR6BFJ75BS9CVroooooom! CorenoMr. CBerea, Ohio USA02009-02-11"How far is too far?"Based on a 1949 book - The Conquest of Space - written by Willy Ley and illustrated by Chesley Bonestell, producer George Pal delivers an intense Sci-Fi adventure of survival on an inhospitable planet.

The mission to Mars psychologically destroys one astronaut and causes a chasm with harsh accusations amongst some crew members But there is also a slim ray of hope and optimism due to a seed being planted in the rugged environment. And the questions surrounding how history is written and the creation of heroes takes flight in the end. The special effects are outstanding.

Released in 1955, the movie is a classic merging of real science with a fascinating gaze to the stars, but with the physical limits of each astronaut being stretched to the breaking point. Some were truly excellent such as The Thing, or The Day The Earth Stood Still. Other times, they were frankly pretty cheesy. Still, when your a kid that's part of their charm. The special effects here weren't half bad for it's day. I think that this film should be in every serious sci-fi buffs collection. Speaking of cult classics, here's a hot tip: Amazon has "An Occurence At Owl Creek Bridge"!! You haven't seen it? It's the one short film that will haunt you for life. Fifty years later, the special effects still hold up. The space station, spaceships, spacesuits, and other futuristic technology were beautifully realized. The scenes of the classic hub and spoke space station, a staple of the period, is truly impressive against the starry backdrop and is as good as any Chesley Bonestell painting. After watching scenes like the space walks one can only assume that it influenced many later, more famous flicks like 2001. The acting might not be as spectacular as the space scenes, but many viewers will recognize Ross Martin (who later starred in The Wild, Wild West), and William Hopper (who played on Perry Mason). The general's bizarre religious revelation against man conquering space is the only thing that really mars the movie's many fine points, but one must remember that depth psychology isn't exactly the SF genre's strong suit. Still, this was a bit cheesy even for the droll 50s. Done in a semi-documentary style after his stunning successes with When World's Collide and War of the Worlds, this movie may not be in their league, but it's still a better flick that most 50s SF films. And if you're a Pal fan, it's probably a must see. DescriptionCONQUEST OF SPACE introduces a group of men brought together to construct an innovative robot to explore the depths of Mars. Located on a space wheel 500 miles above the Earth, commander Samuel Merritt (Walter Brooke) and his men (including Eric Fleming and Benson Fong) struggle to complete the mission when aggression within the group begins to surface.6305869359Project MoonbaseB0000648YDFlight to MarsB000FVQLKWThis Island Earth6305761078Destination MoonB00005NG6AWhen Worlds Collide163350General163345Classics404276Genres130DVD139452Video163442General163431Science Fiction & Fantasy404276Genres130DVD139452Video292650Classics510839011Science Fiction163431Science Fiction & Fantasy404276Genres130DVD139452Video735732Space Adventure510839011Science Fiction163431Science Fiction & Fantasy404276Genres130DVD139452Video414502Brooke, Walter411316( B )404278Actors & Actresses251273011Custom Stores44261011Specialty Stores130DVD139452Video418040Clooney, Rosemary416120( C )404278Actors & Actresses251273011Custom Stores44261011Specialty Stores130DVD139452Video420440Dennis, John419544( D )404278Actors & Actresses251273011Custom Stores44261011Specialty Stores130DVD139452Video423420Fong, Benson422476( F )404278Actors & Actresses251273011Custom Stores44261011Specialty Stores130DVD139452Video423256Fleming, Eric422476( F )404278Actors & Actresses251273011Custom Stores44261011Specialty Stores130DVD139452Video423608Foster, Phil422476( F )404278Actors & Actresses251273011Custom Stores44261011Specialty Stores130DVD139452Video428486Hopper, William426368( H )404278Actors & Actresses251273011Custom Stores44261011Specialty Stores130DVD139452Video435594Martin, Ross434574( M )404278Actors & Actresses251273011Custom Stores44261011Specialty Stores130DVD139452Video442978Redfield, William442578( R )404278Actors & Actresses251273011Custom Stores44261011Specialty Stores130DVD139452Video445774Scotti, Vito444858( S )404278Actors & Actresses251273011Custom Stores44261011Specialty Stores130DVD139452Video446206Shaughnessy, Mickey444858( S )404278Actors & Actresses251273011Custom Stores44261011Specialty Stores130DVD139452Video446258Shawlee, Joan444858( S )404278Actors & Actresses251273011Custom Stores44261011Specialty Stores130DVD139452Video457660Haskin, Byron403504( H )403502Directors251273011Custom Stores44261011Specialty Stores130DVD139452Video357271011Horror357264011By Genre357227011Indie & Art House251273011Custom Stores44261011Specialty Stores130DVD139452Video357298011Religion357275011By Theme357227011Indie & Art House251273011Custom Stores44261011Specialty Stores130DVD139452Video357228011General357227011Indie & Art House251273011Custom Stores44261011Specialty Stores130DVD139452Video3234081All Paramount3234061Paramount Home Entertainment468374Studio Specials251273011Custom Stores44261011Specialty Stores130DVD139452Video3234111Classics3234061Paramount Home Entertainment468374Studio Specials251273011Custom Stores44261011Specialty Stores130DVD139452Video579516( C )579510Titles251273011Custom Stores44261011Specialty Stores130DVD139452Video680913011The Classic Movies Sale: DVDs as Low as $5.9944261011Specialty Stores130DVD139452Video1265183011Movies & TV on DVD and Blu-ray Disc Trade-In44261011Specialty Stores130DVD139452Video387546011DVD387545011Format (binding)386709011Refinements130DVD139452Video390121011Widescreen390118011Picture Format (format)386709011Refinements130DVD139452Video405384011Unrated405383011MPAA Rating (feature_browse-bin)386709011Refinements130DVD139452Video405391011US & CA DVDs: Region 1405390011Region (feature_two_browse-bin)386709011Refinements130DVD139452Video5620870111950 - Girls! Girls! is a 1962 musical comedy film starring Elvis Presley as a penniless fisherman who loves his life on the sea and dreams of owning his own boat.

The film was shot on location in Hawaii.
Nominated for Best Motion Picture - Musical at the 1963 ceremony. The winner that year was The Music Man.The soundtrack songs were recorded in March 1962 at the Radio Recorders Studios in Hollywood, California with the songs "Where Do You Come From" and "I Don't Want To" added to the music album released to coincide with the film's debut. The Leiber-Stoller title track was a hit for The Coasters in 1961 before being adapted for the Presley film. Besides the album itself, "Return to Sender" was released as a single and became a major hit for Elvis.
Several additional songs were recorded for the film and not released concurrently. This includes "Plantation Rock" which was not released until the 1980s (actor Rob Schneider himself a big Elvis fan, performed the song when he appeared on Late Night with Conan O'Brien in 1996), "Mama", which appeared on an early 1970s RCA Camden compilation and "Dainty Little Moonbeams" which appeared in the 1990s. The songs performed by Stella Stevens in the film have yet to be commercially released.

B00007ELFC32A1J03J0HZ7KU5TA1J03J0HZ7KU5TScott RiversLos Angeles, CA USA22009-03-09Elvis! Elvis! Elvis!Elvis Presley energizes the screen in this formulaic musical-comedy from producer Hal Wallis. "Girls! Girls! Girls!" (1962) does not rank among the King's finest efforts, yet his engaging performance goes a long way toward redeeming a humdrum script. The uneven soundtrack includes two memorable songs from Otis Blackwell and Winfield Scott: the smash hit "Return to Sender" and the underrated "We're Comin' in Loaded." Amazingly enough, "Girls! Girls! Girls!" received a Golden Globe nomination for Best Motion Picture Musical (but lost to "The Music Man").B00007ELFC50A2WE94927YC3KIA2WE94927YC3KIPopcicleRubyLos Angeles, CA USA02008-07-29It's great movie!!!This movie was great and the picture and sound was good. GIRLS! GIRLS! isn't one of Elvis Presley's most distinguished screen outings; but it provides a pleasant diversion nevertheless.

Set amongst the islands of Hawaii, Presley plays tuna-fisherman/tour-guide Ross Carpenter, trying to make ends meet so he can buy his dream boat and go into business for himself. Adding complications is Carpenter's love triangle with two very different dames: jaded nightclub singer Robin (Stella Stevens), and young heiress Laurel (Laurel Goodwin), who's looking to experience life on the other side of the social divide.

Presley gets to sing no less than fourteen(!) musical numbers. Laurel Goodwin (a snub-nosed Debbie Reynolds clone) is quite pretty but fails to make any lasting impression. Producers really dropped a clanger in letting vivacious Stella Stevens go to waste in a thankless supporting role; she deserved better material here. Stevens' singing was dubbed by Gilda Maiken.

With it's exotic location filming and the charm of Presley, GIRLS! GIRLS! GIRLS! will be a welcome title for fans, yet others will wonder what the fuss is all about. The DVD offers no extra features. (Single-sided, dual-layer disc).Product DescriptionA SINGER AND A RICH GIRL FLIRT WITH A TUNA FISHERMAN WHO MOONLIGHTS IN A HAWAIIAN NIGHTCLUB.Amazon.comHawaii seems like an afterthought in Elvis's second island outing. Half the musical numbers take place on boats (including the seasick-making title tune) and half in a Trader Vic's-style nightclub, so there's little good use of the exotic locale. There's little use of that lovable dish Stella Stevens, either, who's relegated to "other woman" duty as Elvis courts bland Laurel Goodwin. Goodwin's a rich girl going incognito, while E.P. is a penniless fisherman who dreams of owning his own boat. You finish the plot. The King is in good voice here, although the songs are fairly weak, with some curious flings at calypso and flamenco mixed in. He comes to shoulder-shaking life for "Return to Sender," a sizzling number that shows how his entire being could be possessed by a musical moment. This movie doesn't have enough of those to boost it into the upper tier of Elvis pictures. --Robert Horton 6305837708Blue Hawaii6305837783G.I. The one that started it all is digitally restored, looks great and has a good amount of fun special features. Herbie Rides Again is also well maintained and fun to watch. The problem for this reviewer was that the last two entries, Herbie Goes to Monte Carlo and Herbie Goes Bananas are in Full Screen format only! I can't understand the logic behind Full Screen formatting (as it cuts out a part of the picture from both sides of the original intended shot), and I REALLY can't understand having two Widescreen beauties paired with two Full Screen duds... it really feels like they were packaging them together to get them sold. Otherwise, it's a good set.B0001XAPVK50A38FK136U60BU2A38FK136U60BU2Sylvia T. Bosargeblack ravenMobile,AL. Great to watch anytime!!DescriptionHerbie Goes Bananas - English/Spanish DVD- Set in exotic locations in Central America, the internationally renowned Herbie, everyone's favorite "love bug," demonstrates his special brand of "car-isma" and high-octane humor in this action-packed, stunt-filled comedy outing. The fun begins when Herbie sets sail for Rio de Janeiro's Grande Premio racing competition with his two new owners. En route, they get sidetracked by a smuggling syndicate, pestered by a pint-sized pickpocket, and bullied by a raging bull. Laughter shifts into high gear in this zany Disney comedy! Herbie Goes To Monte Carlo - DVD- Herbie, the VW with heart, adds some international flair to his lovable personality! Upon entering a Paris-to-Monte Carlo road race, Herbie falls hood over wheels in love when he encounters a sleek, sporty, light blue Lancia. Also vying for Herbie's attention is a gang of jewel thieves, who've ingeniously hidden a stolen gem in Herbie's gas tank! Thus begins a madcap chase across the French countryside that only The Love Bug could create! Herbie Rides Again - DVD- Herbie is back in gear -- revved up and ready for more madcap comedy adventure in this sidesplitting sequel to Disney's popular smash hit, THE LOVE BUG! This time Herbie's leading lady is award-winning actress Helen Hayes, superb in the very first screen comedy of her illustrious career. Aided by co-stars Ken Berry and Stefanie Powers, she's out to save her beloved Victorian firehouse home from the wrecking ball of greedy real estate tycoon Keenan Wynn, Disney's most lovable villain. It's up to Herbie and his bug battalion to "come through in the clutch"! Fasten your seatbelts and get ready for a really great time! The Love Bug - DVD Special Edition- For the first time ever you can enjoy this timeless classic in a Special Edition DVD.
The first sequel, Herbie Rides Again (1974), is similar enough to the first film's charm and raucous comedy that it works on its own. Neither Dean Jones nor Michelle Lee are back, but a nice cast of familiar pros (including Disney vet Ken Berry) keeps things moving along slickly. The story finds Herbie helping Helen Hayes--yes, the First Lady of the American Theater--keep out of the clutches of Keenan Wynn's villain.
Dean Jones came back to the fold for this third lap around the block, Herbie Goes to Monte Carlo (1977), which finds him racing in the famed city while thieves plant a stolen diamond in Herbie's gas tank. The plot is forced and conventional, but the cast is the thing: the excitable Don Knotts (The Apple Dumpling Gang) and the tormentable Roy Kinnear (Mr. Salt from Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory) are good men to have in a potboiler such as this.
The fourth movie, Herbie Goes Bananas (1980), is a wooden story about Herbie's funny adventures heading toward a race in Brazil. Charles Martin Smith and Steven W. Burns try hard to bring some life into this project, but it just doesn't happen. There is one good laugh in the whole thing, in a scene where Herbie becomes a matador. Otherwise, even the picturesque, south-of-the-border stuff doesn't help. Harvey Korman and Cloris Leachman star. --Tom KeoghB000AM4P9AHerbie - Fully LoadedB00005JN0QThat Darn Cat!0792839749Chitty Chitty Bang Bang (Full Screen Edition)B0009X75QUThe Parent Trap (1961) and The Parent Trap II (1986): 2-Movie Collection (2-Disc Set)B00009Y3RCThe Absent-Minded Professor (Widescreen Edition)163306General163296Action & Adventure404276Genres130DVD139452Video290941Comic Action163296Action & Adventure404276Genres130DVD139452Video163371General163357Comedy404276Genres130DVD139452Video163417General163414Kids & Family404276Genres130DVD139452Video722769011General AAS507990Classics163414Kids & Family404276Genres130DVD139452Video595062Family Films163414Kids & Family404276Genres130DVD139452Video409890Adrian, Iris409682( A )404278Actors & Actresses251273011Custom Stores44261011Specialty Stores130DVD139452Video412890Berry, Ken411316( B )404278Actors & Actresses251273011Custom Stores44261011Specialty Stores130DVD139452Video423362Flynn, Joe422476( F )404278Actors & Actresses251273011Custom Stores44261011Specialty Stores130DVD139452Video423420Fong, Benson422476( F )404278Actors & Actresses251273011Custom Stores44261011Specialty Stores130DVD139452Video426396Hackett, Buddy426368( H )404278Actors & Actresses251273011Custom Stores44261011Specialty Stores130DVD139452Video427362Hayes, Helen426368( H )404278Actors & Actresses251273011Custom Stores44261011Specialty Stores130DVD139452Video430172Jones, Dean429340( J )404278Actors & Actresses251273011Custom Stores44261011Specialty Stores130DVD139452Video433068Lee, Michele432148( L )404278Actors & Actresses251273011Custom Stores44261011Specialty Stores130DVD139452Video436500McIntire, John434574( M )404278Actors & Actresses251273011Custom Stores44261011Specialty Stores130DVD139452Video442122Powers, Stefanie440340( P )404278Actors & Actresses251273011Custom Stores44261011Specialty Stores130DVD139452Video444346Ross, Joe E442578( R )404278Actors & Actresses251273011Custom Stores44261011Specialty Stores130DVD139452Video449762Tomlinson, David448792( T )404278Actors & Actresses251273011Custom Stores44261011Specialty Stores130DVD139452Video453404Wynn, Keenan451116( W )404278Actors & Actresses251273011Custom Stores44261011Specialty Stores130DVD139452Video599826Comedy501230Boxed Sets251273011Custom Stores44261011Specialty Stores130DVD139452Video579526( H )579510Titles251273011Custom Stores44261011Specialty Stores130DVD139452Video1240754011Romance163375Romantic Comedies163394Romantic Drama251273011Custom Stores44261011Specialty Stores130DVD139452Video387546011DVD387545011Format (binding)386709011Refinements130DVD139452Video390120011Full Screen390118011Picture Format (format)386709011Refinements130DVD139452Video390121011Widescreen390118011Picture Format (format)386709011Refinements130DVD139452Video388395011Boxed Set390118011Picture Format (format)386709011Refinements130DVD139452Video405385011G405383011MPAA Rating (feature_browse-bin)386709011Refinements130DVD139452Video405391011US & CA DVDs: Region 1405390011Region (feature_two_browse-bin)386709011Refinements130DVD139452Video5620880111960 - I shouldn't have been! These hit the spot just like my other sets. Yea, I like #2 son Sen Yung too, but Charlie has a few cute daughters also, and Mantan Moreland more than makes up the difference with comedy relief. I generally only do reviews if I think you are going to waste your money or I think it's very good.
I like things that take you to another place and time and let you get out of your head for awhile- and this does it! As for a white man playing a Chinese role or vice versa; sorry, we are all born on planet Earth- not China or America- and all cultures and stories are yours and ours to share. CzaplickiChanJrAtco NJ12008-09-07ChanthologyFor lovers of the Charlie Chan movies, this set is a mixed blessing. The transfers were done with evident care and attention. However, the quality of the movie, in some cases, was not worth it. I compared "Murder At Midnight" with a Tape of the same movie. The sound and video of the DVD really made a difference, but the movi itself was still very predictable and the character were portrayed as shallow. The other movies in the collection proved to be better in quality of scripting and acting. This collection is for Chan addicts, but not of much interest to others. The Secret Service was one of the better selections. The story line was taut, witty, and believable.DescriptionDisc 1: CHARLIE CHAN IN THE SECRET SERVICE Disc 2: THE CHINESE CAT Disc 3: THE JADE MASK Disc 4: MEETING AT MIDNIGHT Disc 5: THE SCARLET CLUE Disc 6: THE SHANGHAI COBRAAmazon.comThough the Charlie Chan film franchise has earned brickbats for its casting of Caucasian actors as the Asian sleuth, the movies have retained popularity among aficionados of '40s-era B-crime pictures, and the six-disc Charlie Chan Chanthology, all featuring Sidney Toler as Chan, should please that crowd. The Missouri-born Toler starred in 11 Chan pictures for Fox before purchasing the rights to the character from creator Earl Derr Biggers's widow and bringing it to budget studio Monogram, where he starred in 11 more Chans before his death in 1947 (Roland Winters replaced him in six more features until 1949). At Monogram, Chan became a Secret Service Agent (a move calculated to cut down on exotic locations and sets), and comedy was integrated into the plots via Mantan Moreland's chauffeur Birmingham Brown; Benson Fong also joined the cast as Number Three Son Tommy, with occasional appearances by daughter Frances (Frances Chan) and son Eddie (Edwin Luke, brother of Keye Luke, who played Number One Son Lee in the Fox Chans).
Other than that, the six films collected here (the first six Chans for Monogram, and all but five directed by Phil Rosen) are largely indistinguishable from one another save for the murder victims and their demises. In The Secret Service, Chan investigates the death of a wartime inventor; a San Francisco socialite expires in The Chinese Cat; daughter Frances is involved in the murder of a psychic in Meeting at Midnight (a.k.a. Black Magic); another government scientist is killed in The Jade Mask, and death by remote control is the focus of The Scarlet Clue. Director Phil Karlson (Kansas City Confidential) adds some noirish atmosphere to The Shanghai Cobra, which has bank employees dying from apparent snakebites. Dated and controversial as they may be, the Chan films are engaging diversions for vintage mystery fans. No extras are featured in the set. --Paul GaitaB000YDMPCOCharlie Chan Collection, Vol. 4 (Charlie Chan in Honolulu / Charlie Chan in Reno / Charlie Chan at Treasure Island / City in Darkness) (4DVD)B001ARDBXKCharlie Chan Collection, Vol. 5 (Charlie Chan At The Wax Museum/Murder Over New York/Dead Men Tell/Charlie Chan In Rio/Charlie Chan In Panama/Murder Cruise/Castle in the Desert)B000QGDJG0Charlie Chan Collection, Vol. 3 (Charlie Chan's Secret / Charlie Chan at Monte Carlo / Charlie Chan on Broadway / The Black Camel)B000GY728ICharlie Chan Collection, Vol. 2 (Charlie Chan at the Circus / Charlie Chan at the Olympics / Charlie Chan at the Opera / Charlie Chan at the Race Track)B000EXDSAWCharlie Chan Collection, Vol. 1 (Charlie Chan in London / Charlie Chan in Paris / Charlie Chan in Egypt / Charlie Chan in Shanghai / Eran Trece)163350General163345Classics404276Genres130DVD139452Video163371General163357Comedy404276Genres130DVD139452Video163390General163379Drama404276Genres130DVD139452Video524228Classics163379Drama404276Genres130DVD139452Video722760011General AAS512088Classic Horror & Monsters163396Horror404276Genres130DVD139452Video292282Frighteningly Funny163396Horror404276Genres130DVD139452Video163407General163396Horror404276Genres130DVD139452Video923878General512030Mystery & Suspense404276Genres130DVD139452Video898096Classics512030Mystery & Suspense404276Genres130DVD139452Video722787011General AAS541980Crime512030Mystery & Suspense404276Genres130DVD139452Video292287Mystery512030Mystery & Suspense404276Genres130DVD139452Video410084Aldrich, Fred409682( A )404278Actors & Actresses251273011Custom Stores44261011Specialty Stores130DVD139452Video413466Blythe, Betty411316( B )404278Actors & Actresses251273011Custom Stores44261011Specialty Stores130DVD139452Video417276Chandler, George416120( C )404278Actors & Actresses251273011Custom Stores44261011Specialty Stores130DVD139452Video419956Davidson, John419544( D )404278Actors & Actresses251273011Custom Stores44261011Specialty Stores130DVD139452Video423292Flint, Sam422476( F )404278Actors & Actresses251273011Custom Stores44261011Specialty Stores130DVD139452Video423420Fong, Benson422476( F )404278Actors & Actresses251273011Custom Stores44261011Specialty Stores130DVD139452Video427868Heyburn, Weldon426368( H )404278Actors & Actresses251273011Custom Stores44261011Specialty Stores130DVD139452Video430114Jolley, I Stanford429340( J )404278Actors & Actresses251273011Custom Stores44261011Specialty Stores130DVD139452Video430944Keith, Ian430468( K )404278Actors & Actresses251273011Custom Stores44261011Specialty Stores130DVD139452Video431118Kendall, Cy430468( K )404278Actors & Actresses251273011Custom Stores44261011Specialty Stores130DVD139452Video438058Moreland, Mantan434574( M )404278Actors & Actresses251273011Custom Stores44261011Specialty Stores130DVD139452Video439484Norton, Jack438726( N )404278Actors & Actresses251273011Custom Stores44261011Specialty Stores130DVD139452Video449724Toler, Sidney448792( T )404278Actors & Actresses251273011Custom Stores44261011Specialty Stores130DVD139452Video451554Warde, Anthony451116( W )404278Actors & Actresses251273011Custom Stores44261011Specialty Stores130DVD139452Video453190Woodbury, Joan451116( W )404278Actors & Actresses251273011Custom Stores44261011Specialty Stores130DVD139452Video1077042Classics501230Boxed Sets251273011Custom Stores44261011Specialty Stores130DVD139452Video599830Drama501230Boxed Sets251273011Custom Stores44261011Specialty Stores130DVD139452Video599844Mystery & Suspense501230Boxed Sets251273011Custom Stores44261011Specialty Stores130DVD139452Video461462Rosen, Phil461084( R )403502Directors251273011Custom Stores44261011Specialty Stores130DVD139452Video300187Father's Day300182Holidays & Seasonal251273011Custom Stores44261011Specialty Stores130DVD139452Video595276All MGM Titles468384MGM Home Entertainment468374Studio Specials251273011Custom Stores44261011Specialty Stores130DVD139452Video579516( C )579510Titles251273011Custom Stores44261011Specialty Stores130DVD139452Video1265183011Movies & TV on DVD and Blu-ray Disc Trade-In44261011Specialty Stores130DVD139452Video387546011DVD387545011Format (binding)386709011Refinements130DVD139452Video390120011Full Screen390118011Picture Format (format)386709011Refinements130DVD139452Video388395011Boxed Set390118011Picture Format (format)386709011Refinements130DVD139452Video405384011Unrated405383011MPAA Rating (feature_browse-bin)386709011Refinements130DVD139452Video405391011US & CA DVDs: Region 1405390011Region (feature_two_browse-bin)386709011Refinements130DVD139452Video5620860111940 -
